Amy drove to her apartment from the hotel after the ordeal with Sheldon. Today she was only going into work to talk to her boss about the job offered he mentioned the week before. Before today she didn't think much about the job opportunity her boss told her the week before. She planned on not taking the job and staying here but she didn't see a point to staying. She didn't want to leave California but she felt that she needed time away. California had left a bad taste in her mouth and all she wanted was to get it out. To get him out.
Amy's chest felt tight her heart was heavy his words were burned into her brain. Acting on autopilot she took a shower in the hottest water she could take. She cried until the water was ice cold she got out of the shower and got dressed. Today was going to a turning point in her life. As Amy drove to her job she could only think about the job offer and Sheldon. Everything happened in a blur until she was knocking on her boss's door.
"Come in," Dr. Richards said. Amy walked in and sat in one of the chairs in front of his desk. Dr. Richards had been her boss since she started working at the university years ago. He had a soft spot for her she reminded him of his daughter who was finishing her residency at John Hopkins. "Amy it's good to see you. Have you thought about the offer I told you about last week? Lucas wants a response by today or he will have to look for some else." Dr. Richards said to Amy.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about, I accept the offer. By any chance do you know how long it will take for me to transfer to London? I would like to leave as soon as possible." Amy's voice was monotone she hadn't used that voice since before Sheldon.
"From what Lucas told me it would take a few weeks to process your visa for you to live and work in England. It would give you plenty of time to finish up or pass on the projects you have are working on. Maybe even take off the week before you leave to finish up selling or storing things and spending times with your friends." Dr. Richards told Amy. He noticed that something was wrong with her but decided to not ask. "You could also use up your vacation days until you leave. It's up to you don't feel pressured to work until you leave." He added hoping that maybe that would make her feel better.
"Thank you for the offer but I would prefer to work until a few days before I leave. Have a nice day." Amy told him and got up to leave him.
"I'll forward the email I send to Lucas he will be thrilled to have you in charge of his research team," Dr. Richards told Amy as she walked out of his office.
Weeks flew by for Amy was too focused on her work to talk to anyone in the group about what happened between her and Sheldon. She was going to wait until the week of her departure to tell them. That way if they no longer wanted her friendship she wouldn't have to see them again. Her visa came the Friday before her last week at the university. She was ecstatic she missed her cousin Logan terribly and couldn't wait to meet his girlfriend.
It was the week of her departure Amy had been feeling nauseous when she woke up. She felt that something was wrong, she tried to remember when her period was supposed to start. She was late really late more than two weeks. She called in sick for that day fearing the worse. Amy took 5 pregnancy tests throughout the day. She was still in shock that all of the tests were positive. Two of them said that she was about 3-4 weeks along. That was around the time that Penny and Leonard got married. She rubbed her stomach and felt a slight difference.
It took her two days to muster up the courage to tell Sheldon. It was also the day of her departure. Amy went to find Sheldon at his office she had never felt this anxious. They hadn't talked since the morning after Penny and Leonard's wedding. She had hope that after hearing her out they could fix things. Amy took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Sheldon answered. Amy entered she saw Sheldon focused on an equation she wasn't sure if she should disturb him.
"Hi Sheldon… Do you have a moment to speak to me? I have to talk to you about something important." Amy said but he didn't listen he ignored her. He stopped writing on the white board and walked out of his office She went after him regardless of what he said he deserved to know.
"What is it that you want Amy," he told her, his voice was cold and indifferent.
Amy's voice was soft not trying to anger him. "I want to speak about the what happened the night of Penny and Leonard's wedding."
"I thought I made it clear that I don't want to talk about it. We were drunk made a mistake and there is nothing else to speak about," Sheldon voice was low. Each word he said was like a knife stabbing her in the heart... and each word hurt more than the last.
"Sheldon... I–," Before she could continue he interrupted her. He didn't want to hear what she had to say.
"Amy I don't have all day so could you hurry up and tell me," his voice was emotionless. She became more anxious and questioned his right to know about her pregnancy.
"Sheldon... I'm pregnant," she told him there was a silence. Shock, anger, and something else that Amy couldn't read could be seen on Sheldon's face.
"Did you plan this to make me come back to you? To marry you? End the pregnancy or don't I couldn't care less about what you do with it. It's probably not even mine we haven't talked since Penny and Leonard's wedding!" Sheldon told her his voice was cold until the last sentence it was venomous and started to walk away from her.
She couldn't believe his words he didn't want their no her baby. He broke her heart, tears started to form in her eyes but she wouldn't let them fall. Instead she let fury consume her.
"Telling you was a mistake. Forget it ever happened because it was never supposed to happen." Amy told him her words were almost identical to what he sent the morning after they had sex. He said nothing he couldn't even look her in the eyes. What's the point of loving him if he won't love me back? Amy thought she started to walk away.
"Amy I –"Sheldon said softly before she interrupted him.
"You made yourself clear about what you want. I won't bother you again." She told him with a cold and emotionless voice. She talked away again but he grabbed her arm.
She turned around slapped him and said, "Don't touch me." Then she walked away both unaware that someone else heard everything.
Today was one of the rare days that rained in Pasadena, Leonard drove home alone today since Sheldon had left work early. Sheldon rode the bus back to their apartment not caring that he wasn't wearing his bus pants. All he could think is about what Amy said and what he said to her.
"Sheldon get up, you'll get sick if you stay out here any longer." Leonard said once he saw found Sheldon curled up in a ball out side of the apartment building. Sheldon was drenched but he didn't seem to care. His face was expressionless and his eyes were vacant.
He said nothing he just walked to their apartment, Leonard walked behind him fearing Sheldon would fall.
"Sheldon you have to shower or else you'll get sick... while you're in the shower I'll be over at Penny's," Leonard told Sheldon. Sheldon didn't say anything and just walked to his room to get his towel. Leonard walked to Penny's place her door was unlocked he could only hear Amy's voice.
Amy was in autopilot as she drove back to her apartment. Her apartment was empty she had sold almost everything. This would be the last time she was here before she left to England. She packed the last of her belongings her flight to New York City which was at 9 pm. She called Penny at four to tell her that she was coming over then she called Howard and asked for the group to go to Penny's because she needed to talk to them. She drove to Penny's apartment feeling just as anxious as when she told him about her baby.
After Howard and Bernadette got married Amy's friendship with Howard grew closer than before. Not long after they became more like brother and sister. Amy got to Penny's apartment grateful that she didn't see Shel- no him. It was 6 pm now Amy waited for the rest to arrive before she said anything. Howard, Bernadette, and Raj came in Leonard wasn't there but she understood why. Amy hugged Howard when he sat next to her on Penny's couch and cried for the longest time, Howard's heart broke with every sob that came out of her.
"Amy are you okay did happen between you and Sh-" Amy stopped him and let go of him, she felt her anger with just the first syllable of his name.
"Don't say his name in my presence, I don't want anything to do with him." Amy said to the four of them her voice sent chills down their spine. They knew that Amy and Sheldon were having relationship problems and hadn't talked since the wedding. They were unaware of what had happened today they didn't even know that she had that voice.
Sheldon slowly closed the door to the bathroom, he was shocked. For the first time in his life, he didn't know what to feel or think. He met Amy and thought she was a suitable mate, but at some point she broke through all of his walls, he let her in... He fell in love with her... He now understood it was too late. He didn't self as the type of guy who would blindingly fall in love, marry the woman of his dreams, and have children. He thought of what she said that he was going to be a father... A father he imagined little copies of him and Amy running around in their house calling him daddy and Amy mommy. He imagined how much he would love his children... But that was all in the trash he broke her heart and any opportunity he would ever have with her went down the drain. She loved him, she cared for him but now she hated him of course he could demand rights to see his child but that would only make her hate him more. He grabbed the phoned dialed the number to call the only person who would help him at a time like this –his twin Missy.
Leonard walked into Penny's apartment and saw everyone comforting Amy she still had tears in her eyes. There was only one person who could do this to her.
"What did he do Amy," Leonard asked Amy she looked down. She needed to calm down before she started talking.
"What did he do to you... Amy I swear if he did anything to hurt you I will hurt him," Leonard said in a deadly tone.
"Please sit," Amy motioned to him and he obliged.
"I'm... I'm... pregnant..." Amy said just loud enough for the group of to hear her. If a pin dropped everyone would probably hear it. They were too shocked to say anything Leonard was the first to break the silence.
"What did he say to hurt you? Are you keeping the baby? What are you going to? "Whatever you decide we'll support you." Leonard asked me he was concerned; it was written all over his face. The group nodded in agreement to Leonard's last statement.
"He said if this was a way to trap him into marrying me. He said that he knew it wasn't his. He said that he didn't care if I terminated the pregnancy." Amy spoke barely above a whisper tears kept rolling down her face. "I'm keeping the child and I'm leaving... I will not say where to specifically. I know that all of you will not say anything to him but for now he can't know. I was offered a job in England and I'm taking it," Amy told them it was long but to the point... She was leaving.
"England... Amy are you sure... I know Shel- he can be a jerk but this seems a little rushed," Penny said to her.
"He wants nothing to with me or my child. There's no rush my boss told me of the job opportunity the week of your wedding with Leonard. I asked for a week to give him a response. I was waiting for the right time to tell him that I wasn't going to take it. We had sex and he lashed out before I could tell him. The week was up my boss wanted a response and I said yes, it's been weeks in the making. Unfortunately, I still love him and will probably feel this way for a while but I need time to heal and move on. I can't love a person who cannot love my child. He tried to reason with me by grabbing my arm I pulled my arm out of his hand and slapped him and told him to never touch me again," Amy said to them they were just shocked of how cruel Sheldon could be, and they were furious with him.
"I will kill him when I speak to him, he's being a spoiled brat." Leonard said, he loved Amy as a younger sister they became close after the wedding they went to as dates. He knew that Sheldon had romantic feelings for Amy but was afraid to act on.
"You will not kill him Leonard not even if he deserves it." Amy told him she knew that Leonard could kill him but she wasn't about to let him do that.
"So when you get there who are you going to stay with?" Penny asked Amy, she didn't want Amy to leave but she knew it was for the best and it would be good for her to get out of her shell more. She would miss Amy but understood why she was leaving.
"My cousin Robert, we are really close as kids he moved to England because of his job he fell in love with the place and works there permanently," Amy told them. Robert was a model of a man, jet black hair, bright blue eyes, and a pale complexion. He looked like his mother, sadly she passed away when he was 14. She helped him deal with his lost and since that day they were inseparable. They drifted somewhat after they headed to college but they still had each other's back.
"Please don't tell others where I'm heading to if I'm leaving its so I'm not found by him. You can come visit after I settle in," Amy told them.
"Have you packed your bags or do you need help? What about your apartment?" Leonard asked he wanted to be there for her but he couldn't just drop his job at and leave. He could go visit, he had always had wanted to go to England.
"I sold most of my things and I have packed I just need to go to the airport." Amy motioned for them to leave.
"I have to get something from my apartment I'll catch up with you guys downstairs," Leonard told them as he walked to his apartment.
Sheldon took a quick shower and changed. He went to prepare a cup of chamomile tea to smooth his feelings. Leonard walked into the apartment he was furious with Sheldon but he needed to hear this.
"She's leaving the country, Sheldon. Pregnant and alone in another country, she said that she has family there. She could be lying to make us feel better, she won't let us help. She won't let us in! All because of you. Sheldon you can't keep doing this pushing people away and expecting them to come back. Look we have to go drop her off at the airport we can talk later." Leonard said to Sheldon as he was grabbing a few things from his desk. Sheldon stayed quiet and Leonard left to meet up with the gang.
They drove to the airport in Amy's rental car. No one wanted to say anything it would become real if they said anything.
Raj was the first one who spoke, "Will you keep us updated? I know that he doesn't want anything to do with the baby. I'm sure that I speak for all of us when I say that we want to be involved in the baby's life."
"I will try to but you can't tell him anything." Amy said to the group. If he didn't want her child, he had no business knowing what did or didn't happen to her. "I know you guys don't want me to go so you can help me. As I said my cousin Logan is there and he'll help me. I'll be fine guys." No one said anything after that.
They arrived at the airport all of them got out of the car. Leonard and Raj got Amy's luggage from the car. All of them had tears in their eyes it felt so surreal to all of them. They all gathered around Amy to start saying their goodbyes.
Penny wrapped Amy into a hug and told her, "I still can't believe that my bestie is leaving. I'm going to miss you so much Amy. You have to come back when the baby is born we have to meet him or her. Or we can go to England to meet them."
"I would be easier for me to come to you. Perhaps my job will be over by the time I give birth or before. Can you guys turn in the rental after you guys get home? I would've done it now but all of you came in that car." Amy told Penny as she let go of her and Penny just nodded.
Bernadette hugged her after, "I'll miss you so much Amy. When will I be able to send gifts for the little one?"
"I'll let you know when I get settled in. It would be best if only you knew where to send gifts to. It would be unfortunate if he found out where I was." Amy whispered to Bernadette.
Amy hugged Leonard they were both crying by the time she got to him. She let him go no words were needed between them. She turned to speak to all of them, "I am going to miss all of you. All of you have impacted my life in a different way. You guys taught me how to care for others. I grew up as an only child, I always wanted siblings. Now I have them, all of you are family to me." Amy sighed she rubbed her stomach, "My child will grow up knowing that it's loved my so many even if it's father didn't. For that I thank you. I'm staying in New York for a day… there's someone I have to talk to before I leave." Amy said to them her voice full of emotion. Amy grabbed her bags and walked into the airport to catch her flight. The rest of them waited until Amy was out of sight to get into the car and leave.
