"So kid, where are you planning to go?"
"I don't know mister! I just wanna get stronger so that I can take down anyone who stands in my way!" god I hate this guy. He's really buying into the childish act though so that's good.
He chuckled and ruffled my hair much to my annoyance, "you do that kid. You do that."
Why is this guy so annoying? Can't he just shut up for a little while? It's only been a day and he's already told me his entire life story. Something I'm not sure you should be telling a five-year-old about, but whatever. If he wants to tell me about the 18 wives he had in the past 10 years then I can't stop him. He is paying me after all.
"What do you know about magic mister. I don't have anyone to teach me about it so do you know anything?"
"Course I do kid. Life practically runs on magic. I even make my dolls with magic. That's why they can move and all. I couldn't do that without magic." he laughed loudly. "I thought they would be teaching you about these types of things even if you're an orphan."
"They don't teach us anything. Their job is to raise us and make sure we survive until adulthood. Are they supposed to be teaching us, mister?"
"Eh, no clue kid. I can tell you a bit I guess. Stuff I picked up here and there, and common knowledge." I ready myself for the oncoming talk that hopefully would be long and full of information. "Well, I'm sure you already know that everyone had magic in them. Most people don't bother to use it though and somebody like you who used magic is called a mage. When a mage uses their magic their storage goes down or something like that and over time it refills. Don't ask how. I sure won't be able to tell you. But anyways, mages have these things called guilds. Well, a lot of people have guilds. I'm in a merchants guild but I can tell you about that latter. You'll probably end up joining a mage's guild. They take care of missions and such that need magic. Sort of like what you're doing right now, but a bit more organized."
He paused and looked at me to make sure that I was understanding. After his brief pause, he continued, "I know of a few magic guilds that you might be able to join. Fairy tail used to be really big but their strongest members went missing six years ago, a year before you were born kid. There's also Sabertooth. They're really popular now. They won this year's magic games, but they only allow the strong to join their guild. There's lamia scale, and Quatro Cerberus to. That's all of the guilds I know of. You only learn so much traveling kid."
I grinned up at the man, mentally screaming. "I want to join Sabertooth then Mister! If I can join them that means I am strong!" yes. They'll be able to push me and make me stronger.
"If that's what you want kid. Their guild hall is located in the next town. I'll let you work for me until we get there. That good for you kid?"
"That's great Mister! Thank You." Whoever is watching over me and helping me, thank you. Thankyou thankyou thankyou! I only have to spend a few days more at most with this man!
With that out of our way, we continued on with the merchant's travels, and I killed a few wild animals that tried to attack us as we moved. My fire was practically purring in delight at the destruction, and I couldn't help but smile.
My quest to take over this world was steadily becoming more probable, and with my joining this guild I would become even stronger. People would know my flames, and they would fear me. This world will no longer have a difference between rich and poor. There will only be equals.
I paused in my walking as my fire leaped out to defend me from an arrow. People?
"Heh! Would you look at that! The little kid knows magic!" they walked out from the trees laughing and blocked our path.
"Just hand over everything in the cart and we'll let you on your way." another of the bandits grinned and approached the cart only for my fire to reach out and strike him. He stumbled back screaming and trying to snuff out the blue flames leaving patches of dark purple and blue frostbite, and burns.
His companions hurried to help him and glared. "Oh, good one kid. It really was a good idea to let you work for me. All the bandits will think again before attacking me if they see your fire!" the merchant laughed as I sent out a thin wave of fire that wouldn't leave too many injuries on the bandits. I don't know if it's illegal to kill in their world yet or if it's a social norm to kill people if they attack you.
I smiled at the merchant, "wasn't that awesome Mister! They were so scared that they ran away!"
"Yeah, I'd be terrified to be on the receiving end of that too if I were them." he let out another hearty laugh and patted my shoulder. "Well let's keep on moving. The village is only an hours walk ahead. We'll have to notify somebody of the bandits to so that they're taken care of, but I'll let you go." he held out a bag and dropped it into my open hand. "100 jewels as agreed upon. I'd give you more but we were only traveling for a day. This might get you a hotel for the night, but I'm sure that you'll be off doing a job soon enough that it won't matter."
"Thank You, mister!"
We walked the rest of the way to the large gates that signaled the entrance to the village. We split ways there and I headed off in the direction he pointed me in. "Their guild is somewhere over that direction. I'm not a local so I can't help much but I've been here before."
I thanked him once more and let out a sigh of relief as he finally vanished, and I allowed the childish persona to fall off and adopted the persona of the original me. I allowed every bit of craziness and confidence to fill out my stance, and gaze. They would have no option but to listen to what I have to say if the plan worked.
Another half hour of walking later I finally found the large guild with a strange animal head on the front. Wonder what that is. I pushed the doors open and was annoyed to find that they were rather heavy. When they didn't budge I lit the door on fire and pushed.
The set of doors came flying off their hinges completely and I blinked in surprise. "Oops. I didn't mean to do that."
Almost immediately there was a group of strange people before me. Well people and cats. One had bright blond hair and was wearing a sleeveless vest. The other had dark black hair and looked farm more put together than his companion. The girl beside them was holding up a key and stood in a defensive stance. Well, that's strange. What is she trying to do with that key?
"What business do you have with our guild!" the blond took a step forward and I felt the flames pulsing in my soul, trying to defend from the possible enemy."
"Some merchant said this was a mages guild and I wanted to join it. I'm sorry about the doors. I don't know it would do that." I tilted my head to the side and let out a somewhat insane smile. The two scraped doors laying on the side of the hallway. One letting off a faint bright smoke, and a few shadows crawling off the other. Is that their magic? It must be because those doors would have hit them otherwise.
"You want to join our guild! Ha! No way brat! We don't let weaklings join our guild!" he laughed loudly and turned to look at his partner. "You hear that Rouge! He wants to join our guild! We should tell master about this and see what he does with the brat trying to smear sabertooths glorious name in the mud with his weakness!"
"Well then. If this isn't going to work then Fairy Tail it is." I turned to leave only to find another person teleporting there. The dark haired girl that was suddenly there had to step a few feet back as black and blue flames tried to burn her to a crisp.
"Trying to smother our guilds sacred name? My father definitely wants to hear about this. I'll bring you to him." A second later I found myself jumping away from an offending hand.
"I can leave. I don't really have to join your guild if you're so against it, and i'm not sure that i like you. All of you just called me weak and i don't like that, but if you really want me to visit your pops then i suppose a visit wont hurt. Lead the way."
I stepped out of the way of yet another person, and my flames jumped up to defend me from the attack coming from behind. I really need to increase my stamina. I'm already getting tired.
Their attacks paused for a moment and I took the opportunity to move down the hall towards the center of their guild hall. They followed me and waited for me to act out. When i didn't the dark haired girl who tried to attack me first took the lead.
I trailed after her into a large room and looked at the man sitting on a throne. Power hungry much? He stared down at me and something in his eyes told me that I dared to slur the name of his guild he wouldn't hesitate to chop off my head and make an example of me.
"Father. This little boy thinks that he's befitting of joining our precious guild, and even went as far as saying that he would join the disgrace of fairy tail if we sent him away!" Wow. That little boy comment is a little harsh, and would you look at that. He's glaring at me even more now.
"We'll have to show him just how powerful our guild is then. You can beat him as much as you like." his eyes glinted with the promise of pain.
The group that had been at the door of the guild and a few others laughed and raised their fists threatening, but their eyes didn't match their actions. Do they not want to hurt me? This guild must be really messed up if they have to act like this.
I jumped out of the way of an incoming fist covered in a glowing white and ducked under another fist soon after. "So, if i take down these guys could I join your guild? I'm not weak you know."
The blond haired one and the raven-haired one glared. "Nobody insults our guild and compared it to those worthless fairies. Right Rouge?"
The raven head nodded and they attacked together. I noticed the lack of destructive magic and grinned. They must not want to damage their guild hall.
With quick steps, I knocked them out with swift chops to the neck knowing that if I let them continue and didn't take advantage of the short opening it worth me knocked out and laying on the ground.
I grinned and turned to their guild master ignoring the quaking of the wizards around me. "There. I showed you that i'm not just a weak little kid like you seem to think I am. Can i join your guild now? I really was serious about joining Fairy Tail if you don't let me join your guild."
There was a moment of silence and then their guild master grinned. That's totally not terrifying. "I've changed my mind. You're going to be a useful addition to our guild. Yukino give him a guild mark."
The shy white haired girl from before bowed nervously and led me from the room. "What color do you want you mark, and where do you want it?"
"Black, and on my shoulder please."
"O-ok."
"You don't really seem like you're all that mean. I got the impression that you were all really mean people with the way you treated me."
"No. we're just acting like master wants us to. He values the reputation of our guild." The new speaker was sudden and unannounced.
A second later a louder more energetic person piped up just as unexpected as the first. "Hey! Yukino, how's the new guy!"
The lady who goes by the name Yukino jumped. "H-he's going to get his guild mark. I was just asking where he wanted it." she seemed a lot more confident with the guildmates that she did with me and i couldn't help but pout. How come so many nice people are shy?
"Oh! So then where are you getting your mark new guy!" the energetic blond grind and his silent companion watched me carefully as if he didn't yet know what to think of me.
"I'm thinking of getting it on my left bicep." I held out my hand to Yukino palm up and lit my hand on fire. The temperature dropped and silent guy narrowed his eyes more. Blond hair simply grinned. "Do you think you can replicate this for my mark? It might be hard, but if you can that would be awesome." i let some of the childlike happiness I should have slip through and she bought i quickly trying to assure me that it would be no problem.
Maybe this guild won't be to bad after all. The guild master seems to be quite troublesome though.
