Caroline stirred in the bed. She sat up and cringed. Pain shot through her like a bullet. It was concentrated at her side. She put her hand on her there and felt the bandages rub against her skin. The door clicked open and she scowled at who walked through.

"Ah, sleeping beauty is awake at last." Klaus said with a small smirk.

"What could you possible want?" Caroline hissed at him. She tugged on the bandage but it stuck to her skin.

"Now now is that anyway to talk to the man who is going to save your life?" His smirk never faltered.

"'Is going to'? I don't understand? What happened?" Caroline looked confused and slightly worried.

She pulled back the bandage and recognized the wound. A bite from a hybrid. When did this happen? All she could remember was that she went to go hunt down a meal then - her thoughts trailed off as she remembered what happened. Tyler. Why? Why had he bitten her? A small tear trickled down the side of her cheek and landed on the blanket. Klaus watched as Caroline slowly cried. He walked over to the bad and sat down. He eyed the bite. Someone had really torn into her. He scowled. He really needed to find out who had hurt her. But first things first.

"Caroline." He pulled back the his sleeve and offered his wrist to her. She looked up at him. He could see the trails of tears that remained on her cheeks. She nodded and leaned into him. Her face shifted as the veins leading up to her eyes became apparent and the large of her eyes turned red. Her canines grew and they sunk into Klaus's wrist. He let out a low sigh as she snuggled against his chest. He drew small circles on her back as she feed. She pulled back and furrowed her brow.

"Love? What's wrong?" Klaus asked. She pushed away from him and stood up. Her hand resting on her stomach. The other pushed up against the wall to stable herself.

"I don't know, something doesn't feel right." Her brow sunk even deeper. She looked up at him. She ran to the bathroom. Caroline dropped to her knees and skidded into the toilet. The porcelain pressed into her tender wound and she moaned. Practically ripping the lid off, she pushed it up and hovered over it. Caroline wretched up blood. The blood was thick and some globs of blood floated in the now-red water. Spit mixed with blood dripped from her lips as she heaved. Another round passed in a blur. Caroline stood and smoothed her hair back. Her hands were shaking and her skin was pale. The light reflected off the sweat on her skin, she breathed heavily. Caroline walked over the the sink and placed her hands on either side of the basin. Leaning against it. Slowly, she turned on the faucet on and splashed some water on her face. There it was again that feeling. Before she had realized she was throwing up more blood into the sink. It splashed around and got on the floor and walls. The crimson color dyeing everything in sight. Blood had sprayed onto her hands and she pressed them to her face. A bloody hand print covered the half of her face.

"Didn't know my blood was that repulsive." Klaus leaned against the door frame to the- now red- bathroom.

"It's not yours, it's me." Caroline cringed as the wave of nausea slowly went away.

"What a way to put it." Klaus said with a smirk.

"Serious Klaus. Something's wrong." Caroline gave him a weak glare.

"What do you mean 'something's wrong'?" Klaus stood up straight and inched into the bathroom.

Caroline pulled her shirt up and peeled back the bandages. The wound still hadn't healed; it actually looked like it had gotten worse. Caroline swayed and when she closed her eyes, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her. She didn't need to open her eyes to know who held her up. Who held her to Earth. Caroline leaned into him and let out a long sigh. She slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Klaus. She was starting to feel very tired. Barely able to stand up.

"Am I going to die?" Her voice was small. Her eyes lidded in a daze of sleep. Klaus frowned. She was asking him if she was going to die. He really didn't want her to die. But it was already clear that the bite wasn't healing, even with Klaus's blood. Which happened to be the only cure to werewolf/hybrid venom. So he didn't have an honest answer.

"No love. I will find a way to save you. I promise." He lied.

Caroline nodded before she closed her eyes and fell asleep. She knew he lied. She could see it in his eyes. Her regret- if she never woke up- would be that she didn't kiss Klaus. Klaus looked down at her. He carefully lifted her up into a gentle hold. He walked her back into the bedroom. The bed was covered in her blood, she covered in even more. He left the room and walked into the one across it. Placing her in the bed, he smoothed back her hair that stuck to her sweat ridden forehead. She was pale and her breathing was ragged. Her lips parted to allow the forceful wisps of air. He pressed a hand to her forehead, she was burning up. Klaus dropped his arms to his side and clenched them into fists. He cursed his luck. He had finally found someone to-someone he could love, and it appeared he would never have the chance too. It almost made him want to cry, almost. But he didn't. He was Niklaus Mikaelson, he didn't cry. He would find a way to save her. Even if he had to make heads roll. He spared one last look at her before he left the room.
