A/N: Takes place a couple months after the events of chapter 1/end of the Frozen movie.
Elsa stared up at her ceiling, waiting for sleep to come. The room's temperature was just right (she made sure of that), the windows were closed, the blinds were shut, and she was exhausted after the day's events, but she still couldn't fall asleep. With a groan, Elsa got to her feet and slipped on her shoes and cloak. Maybe a nighttime stroll would clear her head.
As she exited her room, the guard stationed there asked if she required assistance, which she emphatically declined. Walking through the winter snow was one of the best feelings in the world, and she didn't feel like sharing the experience with anyone. Plus, she was more capable of taking care of herself than anyone else.
She started following her usual path out of the castle and through the outskirts of the town. Children ran around playing tag as their parents talked around large bonfires, trading gossip and food. Elsa ventured farther away from the castle, towards the mountains and the large woods behind them.
"Hey!"
Elsa whirled around as she heard a young-sounding voice call out.
"Can anyone see me? Please!"
When she turned around to try and find the source of the yelling, she saw a barefoot boy with brown clothes and pale skin and hair reaching out to people, but they passed through him. The boy clutched his shepherd's crook to his chest and took a step back with a gasp.
She took a step forward to tell the boy that she could see him, that he wasn't alone. But before she could reach him, the boy shot into the air with a yell of surprise. She watched in awe as the boy flew through the air and stopped on one of the spires of her castle. Elsa hurried towards the castle as fast as she could, but before she could even get to the courtyard, the boy had flown away with a loud cackle.
