MS 02

((AN: By the way, I'm making the main characters young adults for various reasons, primarily realism and frankly, I think the story's better that way))

LIC (Light Industries Corporation) convention. People had come from across the globe to see the various types of robots that LIC was going to invent. People would also try to sell their own prototypes, and show off ideas in hopes of getting hired for a better job than their current, super lame, minimum wage job. There were all sorts of people: Mobians, humans, robots, mobians and humans dressed as robots.

A man by the name of Joeseph Laney Smith walked in. His friend called him LAN. He was a tall young man, about the age of 19, Caucasian, brown haired. He was wearing black pants and a button-up shirt, with a grey vest worn over the shirt. Upon walking through a metal detector, the lights went off. There were two Joes present. Both were blue colored. Out of their wrists extended police batons. They held them menacingly, expecting a fight.

Instead, LAN flashed his badge. GUN. The machines backed down instantly, and allowed him to pass.

Sonic and Tails were also present at the convention center. Tails recently got a new job for LIC, and Sonic came to support him.

Sonic says "Well Tails, I'm not really sure about these big, robot building corporations."

Tails, floating above him, said "But don't you see how robots are improving the lives of everyone around? With Light Industries, we can change the world!"
Sonic was about to argue further when he notices a robot selling chili dogs. Yum. He hands it some money and says to Tails "Yeah, I see, now! Technology is great!". The robot gives Sonic a dog wrapped in tin foil.

Tail then checked his watch. It was almost time for the event! He said "I've got to go, now, I'll see you in a bit!"

Backstage, there stood Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. Wily wasn't a part of the convention, but he was there to help his friend get ready.
Dr. Light was staring at an open locket. "Emily…everything we talked about…it's finally coming true." He almost shed a tear.

Wily said "Now, now, friend. Don't get too worked up, they need to see you at your-" he noticed something tying his shoe laces. It was Rock. He sighed. "Get your machine off my foot."

Light said "Easy, now, Rock" He chuckled a bit. "You really ought to give them some credit, Wily"

Light looked outside. "Sometimes, I look outside and realize…Me and you, we'll be heroes."

Wily chuckles. "No, Tom. We'll be gods."

Wily sighed. "Look, just…don't flub your lines, Tommy boy!" He shook Light's hand and sent him off. He spoke to the robots "I'd like some time alone, if you don't mind."

Rock and Roll nodded, and headed off.

Wily pulled out his Skullbook laptop, and plugged it in. He turned it on. The image of a round, bald face with a hilariously large mustache came on the screen.

A deep, jolly voice was heard. "Is the plan progressing?"

Wily nodded "Yes. Soon, Light Industries Corporation will suffer from a very severe industrial malfunction. Soon, Light Industries will be a pile of lawsuits, bankruptcy, and death. That'll be one piece taken off the board."

The voice said "I'm glad to hear it! Now, do you have any contingencies if your tampering's found out about?"

Wily smiled and giggled. "I am so glad you asked that question. You see, I've been studying your handiwork for a while, and even if the tampering is discovered, it'll look like YOU did it, Eggman!"

Eggman burst into laughter for a moment. And then paused awkwardly. "Wait…you aren't joking?" He then bursts into laughter once again, as now it's even funnier. "Clever boy, Albert! Clever boy. Now…as for that Hedgehog…"

Tails spoke into the microphone. "Everyone. Turn you attention to the center stage."

The room darkened, and a spotlight came on. Dr. Light walked on stage. He was a gaunt man with a beard. He was wearing a labcoat, and two black boots. He…really hadn't dressed for this particular occasion, had he?

Dr. Light spoke. "Hello there, robotics enthusiasts, people of Monsteropolis, and everyone else!"

Everyone perked their attention to the good doctor.

"I remember when this city was just a small mining town. It didn't even appear on a map. Those mines were dangerous, though. Plenty of fathers worked into their graves." His voice is somber, but then he smiles and cheers up "But with your help, we were able to turn it into an economic powerhouse! And yes, this is a victory to both you and to me, for while it was I who drew the architecture, it was you the workers who laid the bricks! And it was you the consumer who funded this!"

LAN was watching Dr. Light speak, when he noticed a lady standing near him. The lady, a bit younger than he was, said "Oh, isn't this exciting?"
LAN looked at her. She was blond, and wore a red dress. At first glance, he had thought she was human, but upon further inspection, there were a few features that made her stand out as a robot. Her shoes, for example were standard issue robotic feet. Same thing with her hands, they looked like she had gloves on, but were in fact robotic parts.

LAN said "Yeah. My parents both work for Light. Do you have any connections?" The answer was rather silly. Nearly everyone in town had a connection to Light or Wily.

The lady said "Light's my dad." She offers a hand "my name's Roll, by the way."

LAN took her hand. "Lan."

And then Doctor Light said "And so, any questions?"

Lan raised his own hand. "Yeah, your company used to have a partnership with GUN. Do you plan on ever creating any more military robots?"

The good doctor blinked. He said "Uh…no. I want to build robots that help people. I am through with making weapons!"

Lan raised an eyebrow. He was surprised at how emphatic Light was. Oops. Maybe he shouldn't have asked that question…

A few more questions were asked, and then Light said "And now, the unveiling of my next project. I present to you, the ROBOT MASTERS."

Some more lights flicked on, showing six humanoid robots. He said "each robot is built with a purpose that benefits mankind. They will oversee the operations of other robots. Each one is as intelligent as you or I. With these six robot masters, designed by me, built by my employees, funded by you, we will enter a new golden age."

Wily frowned. Part of him had longed for the days when he and Tom had worked closely together. They'd been building things ever since they decided to build a model rocket back when they were ten. And yes, he had even helped Tom build those robot masters. But, alas, the past had gone, and the present was slowly slipping away.

There was only the future.
