Hi, guys! Once again, I apologize for completely neglecting this story. I will try to stay on track as much as I can. I've been so busy with college, work, and everything else that I have been attempting to balance. I hope that people are still following this story! I hope you like the direction it's heading in! Once again, I have a reason for the cliffhanger ending of Popularity was my Creation. Thank you to Just-A-Random-Person-MN, Guest, Mitchell Green, and Willowsoar for reviewing!
"Are you insane," Ethan hissed through his teeth. "Put the knife down, Jane."
"No," Jane hissed back at him. "I can't be like them!"
"Be like who," Ethan asked taking a cautious step towards Jane.
"Like Sarah and Rory and Erica," Jane cried hysterically. "I can't be a vampire."
"What are you talking about," Ethan asked attempting to remain calm while taking another step towards her. "Vampires aren't real."
"You can stop the act," Jane said her grip on the knife tightening. "Sarah told me. Technically, my creation told me." Jane shuddered at the memory of what she had created. Ethan sighed.
"There's no way you can be a vampire unless you were bitten by one," Ethan said. A look of realization mixed with terror crossed Ethan's face. "Is that why you're covered in blood?"
"Please help me," Jane cried ignoring Ethan's question. "I can't live by having to kill other people just for food."
"Jane, listen to me," Ethan said taking another step. "They don't eat humans. They drink from blood bags. If worse comes to worse, they hunt animals. They would never harm a human being unless they had to."
"What does that mean," Jane asked becoming more and more hysterical by the minute.
"Obviously, we have enemies," Ethan said. "It seems like every day, we have a new one to deal with."
"What enemies," Jane asked. "Why do you have so many?"
"Because we're special," Ethan replied quickly keeping his eyes on the knife. "I'll tell you everything if you put the knife down. We can calmly figure out what happened to you and I'll answer any questions you may have. Sound like a deal?"
Jane becomes silent and stares at Ethan for what feels like hours. To Ethan's dismay, her grip continues to tighten on the knife.
"I'm sorry, Ethan," Jane said. "I have to do this!" Jane raises the knife above her head.
"NO," Ethan yells running up to her and grabbing the arm that has the knife in it. His eyes go white. Flashes of a forest, feelings of pain, and a familiar face overwhelms him. The face is so blurry that he could barely tell who it is. The voice, however, sends chills down his spine.
"Name's Jesse," the face said. Ethan jumps out his vision. Jane, surprised, pushes him so hard that he hits the wall causing a long crack from the ceiling to the floor.
"I am so sorry," Jane said dropping the knife and running over to Ethan.
"That's alright," Ethan said groaning. "My back needed cracked anyway." He looks at her. "Are we done with the suicidal thoughts?"
In the heat of the moment, Jane had completely forgotten about her current predicament. Him saying that brought it all back causing her to burst into tears. Ethan hugs her and whispers comforting words to her. It wasn't long before his brain repositioned itself in his head and he wanted to know more about what had happened to her.
"I need you to calm down and tell me what happened to you," Ethan said. Jane just kept crying. "Jane, this is important. When you were in the woods, did you meet a boy there?" Jane nodded yes. "Was his name Jesse?" Jane nodded again causing Ethan's blood to run ice cold. "Did he hurt you?" He jumped at the sound of Jane's voice.
"He beat me when I told him that I didn't know anything about you guys," Jane said sniffling.
"He was asking about us," Ethan asked. Jane nodded. "What did he want to know?"
"Just what I knew about you," Jane replied. Ethan sighed putting his head in his hands. He sat there in that position for a couple of minutes until another question occurred to him.
"How did you meet Jesse," Ethan asked. "Did you get lost in the woods when you were leaving Whitechapel?" Jane shook her head. She started to cry again and Ethan put his arm around her. She struggled to form the next sentence.
"Catherine…..and….James…took me," Jane said. "They kidnapped me and brought me into the woods. The scary thing is that they didn't look like themselves. They looked like-"
"Vampires," Ethan said finishing her sentence for her.
"Yeah," Jane whispered.
"So you were bitten against your will," Ethan asked.
"I didn't even realize what had happened until I got here," Jane said more tears filling her eyes.
"I'm so sorry," Ethan said to her. "I'm sorry that after everything you've been through, this is just another thing to add to the list." Jane put her arms around her stomach and just continued to sob. Ethan looked at her pitifully. "Stay here." Ethan stood up and walked into the living room. He grabbed the phone dialing Sarah's number.
"Hey," Sarah answered. "It's late. What are you doing up?"
"We have a problem," Ethan replied. Sarah hung up the phone. Not even a minute later, the doorbell rang.
