"Hey, there, wise girl."

Annabeth let her face curl into a gentle smile at the familiar voice. The sunlight on her face and eyelids was a pleasant warmth, but it was nothing to the sparks which rippled on her skin as a presence settled itself beside her on the grass. A soft touch on her cheek made her smile curve into a grin, and despite her serenity, her skin tingled in an altogether agreeable way. Slowly, her eyes opened to the sight of a smiling face as familiar to her as her own.

As always, those sea green eyes, full of things she didn't dare name, sent a jolt through her. A fire kindled somewhere low in her ribs, and she leaned forward. She savored the feel of the strong arms around her, the tang of salt, and the warm press against one another which made her so happy and desperate and hopeful she could barely breathe. She savored the hope, and the promise.

When Annabeth pulled back, she was pleased to see a dazed glow in her boyfriend's eyes. His growing smile was wry, but also hesitant, like he couldn't believe that had really happened, or that any of this was really happening. That he should be so lucky. Annabeth knew the feeling. The desire to make this moment last forever rose up in her throat, fierce and fiery.

"I love you," Annabeth said softly.

Percy's only response was to pull her closer.
