Seven months earlier…
Kurt Hummel sat in the waiting room of one of Lima's hospitals. It had now been three days since his father's heart attack and still no progress had been made to his condition. Ever since he had been unconscious and it was breaking Kurt's heart. His father meant the world to him, the only family he had left and if he lost him he had no idea what he would do. Sure, his friends were trying desperately to comfort him but he had had enough of them constantly going on about praying and religion. Something he himself did not believe in. A long sigh left his lips as he stared at the first page of the book he had brought with him, he'd been sitting there for half an hour with it just open. Getting nowhere, he thought, as usual.
"The doctor is finished now." A petit nurse came out of his fathers room and said.
He nodded in reply, watching as the doctor came out, clipboard in hand, after her. "Still no progress." He told him, with that same 'I'm so sorry' smile that everyone had been giving him lately.
"Thank you." Kurt mumbled, standing from his seat and picking up the cards that had been handed to him to place by the hospital bed. The doctor left him to it and without hesitating he began to make his way to the room.
However, his journey came to a halt when he collided with a passer by causing him to drop everything he was holding. "Sorry." He said almost in a whisper, kneeling down to pick everything up.
"No it was my fault." The passer by said, also leaning down and picking up the book for him. Kurt stood back up, finally seeing the face of the person. It was almost a relief to see a genuine smile on the face of the guy. "It's a good book." He told him, handing it back over. His deep, hazel eyes shone at him as gelled back, black curls stood tightly around his head.
"Thanks." He gave him the best small smile he could before continuing to make his way back into the room. The hospital, with a sick father to look after, was no place to be flirting with boys.
Meanwhile, the boy watched after him. He was in no position to be lusting after anyone but something inside of him told him that crashing into him had been fate. The way he had acted so quickly was almost intriguing to him and he couldn't help but want to know more about the wide eyed stranger. He smiled, shaking his head, deciding that if the opportunity came up he would talk to him but going after him wasn't an option.
