Back at the Coconut Mall, the three racers Sonic The Hedgehog, Birdo, and Toadette all were riding in regular pipe framed karts, each of them colored after themselves, as they were at the starting line, with the crowds of Miis, Nokis, and Piantas watching as the regular green shelled Lakitu came down and started to give the signal. They decided to test out the karts by going ahead, only for them to break down, so they were placed on top of bikes, with it being much more helpful for them. Though it was a friendly race, it wasn't one to be taken lightly as all three of them loved to do it. Surely a nice smooth dash around the mall between a perky pink mushroom girl, a calm pink bow wearing dinosaur, and a friendly though cocky blue supersonic fast anthropomorphic hedgehog wouldn't cause so much chaos, right? Oh ho...
Sonic waved at Toadette and Birdo, with Toadette waving back as Birdo sighed, Lakitu snapping his hands as the three racers took off, all of them zipping up on the first escalator to the right, with the trio using bikes. Sonic and Birdo were using the best bike for middleweights, the Mach Bike while Toadette was speeding by in the adorably speedy known as the Quacker, with its duck themed exterior hiding its impressive stats. Sonic sipped towards the right to the main escalator, while Birdo headed down the escalator Sonic past by, with Toadette following her. They then split apart by the escalator before them, with Sonic coming down as they all performed tricks on the fountain in the middle.
"Come on, step it up!" Sonic called out as he stuck his tongue out at Birdo and Toadette, zipping on the escalator to the left as he wagged his right index finger. "You're too slow!"
Toadette growled as she began accelerating faster. "Step it up, huh? Now I'll show you..." She then chucked a red shell she got from the item box at Sonic, nailing him.
"...So that's what they're taunting these days?" Birdo questioned while shaking her head, for she saved up the mushroom she gained as they went around the staircase, being in the outdoor garden as only Sonic performed a trick on the fountain, with the group rounding back up on the staircase as Birdo used her mushroom.
"So, saving up items is Birdo's tactic, huh?" Sonic instigated as he nodded his head, using the star he obtained to ram Toadette to the side and take the lead again from Birdo, both of them heading onto the ramp leading to the roof.
As Sonic and Birdo both performed tricks on the rooftop while coming back down, Toadette took the lower entrance, trying to make up for Sonic ramming into her as they went into the parking lot, with a red car backing up into Sonic and Birdo, letting Toadette past them. Going around the turn, the three racers zipped past the finish line, concluding lap 1 of the Coconut Mall race.
