Binary Love

Part Two

Sora had been in a better mood ever since his talk with Aerith. Waiting wasn't that bad; Sora's head was filled with thoughts and possibilities. Maybe Sora could even return to the Islands; with the replica of course. Sora didn't once question the thoughts he was having; he was too excited. The committee noticed the new glint in Sora's eyes but when any of them went to say anything, Aerith stopped them with a knowing smile. She wanted to give him the chance to make the right choice.

At the first sign of the replica's awakening, the computer system started going of loudly. Of course Sora was the first to rush over. Cid followed behind him; going to work on the computer: setting up tests, canceling the alarms, and already collecting data. While he was doing that Sora's eyes were glued to the pod where inside the replica was stirring. After he stretched a little, the replica's eyes flew open. Sora's breathe caught in his throat when he saw those deep, teal eyes. He felt like he could get lost in them. Cheesy, he thought. The replica's face showed confusion when he looked at Sora. "Can he hear me, Cid?" Cid only grumbled an affirmative.

Sora looked up at the replica and smiled. "Don't worry you're safe. I'm not sure where my friends found you but we aren't going to hurt you. We even helped heal your cuts; although your suit is still torn. Maybe we can get you some real clothes!" The confusion on the replica's face was replaced by calm features and a small smile. "One step at a time." Sora whipped his head around to see Leon. The replica's face turned into a wary one. He looked angry also but Sora had a feeling he was just scared. Leon had his usual stony expression on. "We found him at the sight of the battle of 1000 heartless. Looks like he had tried to have his own epic battle." He directed a fierce gaze at the replica. The replica looked startled for a second before regaining his angry and defensive composure.

"Before we let you out we need to know whose side your own." Leon's voice was stern; commanding and firm. The replica looked at Leon then at Sora. He seemed to think for a second until he pointed to Sora. Sora visibly brightened. "We can let him out now! Please?" He turned his baby blues over to Leon and Cid. Cid looked away right off the bat while Leon just stared for a couple minutes. He eventually sighed and pressed a button.* The pod slowly drained of fluid before the doors opened.

The replica tried to get out by himself but ended up falling out. Sora immediately caught him; or at least he tried to. He ended up collapsing under the replica's weight. Sora realized that the replica was practically lying on top of him. This caused Sora to visibly blush and lay there until Leon cleared his throat. Sora snapped out of it and helped the replica up. Leon spoke up again. "The fluid we put in the pod to heal your wounds numbed your muscle functions and vocal chords. It should wear off in a little bit. Try clearing your throat." While he was speaking he was watching the replica like a hawk. The replica tried to clear his throat but it was painful sounding. For soaking in fluid his throat was dry as hell. Sora looked up at him with a frown. "Here let me help." He helped the replica walk into the other room and sat him down on one of the chairs. He looked around with a frown. "Really? We never brought anything to drink to this place? Ever? Alright well I'm gonna go back to the city to grab you something to drink! I'll be back!" Sora flashed the replica a genuine smile as he ran out the door.

The replica wasn't sure what to do so he just sat down in the chair closest to him and stared at the ground. He stayed that way until Leon cleared his throat. Leon had his fierce gaze on the replica, quickly making him feel uncomfortable.

"Before this goes any further I'm going to explain some things you need to know. The real Riku? Dead. Killed in the battle against Xemnas. Sora was there and from what I heard from the people who found him he was soaked in Riku's blood from when he was trying to revive him. ever since he's been a shell of a person. At least until we found you." In the blink of an eye Leon's gunblade was in the replica's face making him flinch visibly. "I swear if you fuck him up more, I will make you wish you died before we found you." Leon heard footsteps from the doorway and he quickly sheathed him gunblade. His stern gaze was still there though when Sora came back with a couple bottles of water.

Sora instantly noticed the tension in the room but he quickly shrugged it off. He sat next to the replica and offered him a bottle of water and a smile. The replica visibly relaxed and gave a nod of thanks as he slowly drank the water. It felt like heaven on his coarse throat. After emptying the bottle he gave speaking another try. "Thank you Sora."

Sora once again brightened visibly. It felt so nice for him to hear Riku's voice again. He wasn't going to go as far as saying that it sounded like a chorus of angels, but it was nice and comforting, which was more than enough. "It was nothing! But I was hoping to ask you some questions when your throat feels better if that's ok!"

The replica gave him a small smile. "Ask away." He said in a rather husky tone unintentionally. It gave Sora visible shivers that made everyone in the room raise an eyebrow; well except Cid who had already left wanting nothing to do with the drama that was going to go down. Sora chuckled nervously and started asking. "What happened to you?"

The replica sighed and looked outside. Sora was about to apologize, thinking that he asked the wrong question right off the bat, but the replica waved him off. "It's ok. It's just a pathetic story. After Riku and I's final battle I remember losing and fading but after some time I woke up in this weird flower pod perfectly fine. I thought Namine had something to do with it but when I started looking around I realized that I was still in castle oblivion and it was completely empty." He paused to look at Sora who was watching with sadness in his face. The replica messed with Sora's spikes and continued. "I didn't know what to do with myself in a castle with nothing else in it. Even the heartless were gone. The place never seemed creepier. I decided to leave the castle and take the first path I found. That turned into a lot of pointless walking. Eventually I ran into a shadow heartless. He seemed curious about me and after a strange standoff he started to follow me. I didn't really mind him since he wasn't bothering me so I let him. Unfortunately one turned into 10 which turned into 200. After all the walking I still found nothing and I couldn't take it anymore. I started to take it out on the heartless. After killing about 20 they caught on and fought back. I know I won that battle but I must've passed out."

When he finished he noticed that Sora's jaw had dropped sometime during the story. Even Leon had a raised eyebrow. "What? No one is gonna miss them."

Sora laughed and shook his head. "No I was just impressed that you could take out 200 heartless in one go."

"Well there was a reason why I beat you every sword fight we had."

Sora went to laugh but he stopped and slumped, looking at the floor. The replica immediately knew why. "I'm sorry. It's hard having all his memories and knowing they're not actually mine. I'm sorry Sora…" He put his hand on Sora's shoulder. Sora wanted to rest his head on the hand but he knew that was definitely out of the question. "It's ok. I'm not mad. I just… I guess I never let go of him." Leon, who was standing behind Sora, gave him a "you think?!" look but the replica glared at him. Leon happily returned the glare with one of his own. "It's understandable. I can only imagine what it was like. Maybe- "The replica paused, confused by the compassion flowing inside him and out of his mouth. "Maybe I can help you move on."

Sora had small tears in the corner of his eyes but a small smile on his face. "Yeah, that sounds nice. Thanks.

*: Yeah OK Leon! Like you magically know the exact button to press. I CALL BULLSHIT!

Anyway I feel like this was a bit rushed but I'm satisfied with it. I see two more parts after this; like a rising action, climax, and a falling action with a small epiloge (maybe) So look out for that!
