Chapter 2-
It's been a week and a half since Jason Black had arrived in the Mass Effect universe and he had come to one conclusion, the games hadn't done enough justice to how much of a shithole Omega is.
Jason had spent the last week getting himself familiarised with the influx of new information in his head along with dealing with the grief of losing everything he had known. His family, his job, his girlfriend, his very own identity gone, just like that.
He had spent days holed up in an apartment that he had rented until Shepard arrives processing his grief before he had decided to go out and explore Omega. Jason had come to the conclusion that the only part of Omega that wasn't a complete dump was Afterlife, which was where Jason spent most of his days, drinking and learning about the world he was now a part of.
One of the first things he had looked up had been Commander Shepard, the first human Spectre, a spacer, the Lion of Elysium, soldier class, the epitomy of a paragon, and most definitely female. Messing about with Shepard's identity hadn't been something Jason had even considered, although he probably should have cause he had most definitely lucked out with this version of Shepard.
Furthermore, Jason had been very quickly introduced to the one rule of Omega, DON'T FUCK WITH ARIA! Jason had barely been through the front door of Afterlife before an absolute tool of a Batarian had been in his face demanding that he meet with the ruler of Omega herself. Aria had given him the typical spiel about not making trouble for her before reluctantly admitting her admiration of his skills as an assassin and as a mercenary.
Anyway, it had been 10 days since Jason had arrived and he was getting antsy and impatient for Shepard's arrival. He was currently sitting in a booth in a corner of Afterlife enjoying a glass of whiskey (who knew that the ME universe had Jack Daniels) and browsing the extranet when he noticed a couple of Aria's men rushing to the front door. His interest peaked Jason observed with a barely contained sense of glee as one Commander Shepard was escorted to Aria's 'perch' (as Jason fondly called it) followed by the cold and calculated Miranda Lawson along the slightly 'vanilla' grunt that was Jacob Taylor.
About 10 minutes passed, which Jason spent debating how he should portray himself when the time came to meet Shepard, before the heavily armed trio descended from the 'perch', Shepard stopped at the bottom of the stairs before scanning the club, her eyes finally settling on Jason. She started into a determined walk towards Jason, as she came to a stop before him she silently observed him for a second before inviting herself to seat in front of him, gesturing for Miranda and Jacob to keep the other patrons of the club away from them.
'So, you're the infamous Jason Black,' Shepard casually began.
'The one and only, and you're the famous Commander Shepard, I heard you were dead or has my drink been spiked.' Jason replied, deciding to go with his own casual and easy-going personality from the get go.
She smiled before saying, 'Well it appears you heard wrong and I hope you haven't been spiked cause I'm going to need all of your rumoured skill very soon.'
Jason leaned forward in his seat, a small smile on his face and a dangerous look in his eye, 'And what would a not so dead Spectre want with little old me, cause if I'm not mistaken your friends over there seem to be wearing Cerberus uniforms and if I'm being honest with my shitty past with that organisation of sick cunts, I'm not sure I want to give you access to my extensive skill set.'
Lawson turned round to give Jason a not so pleasant glare before Shepard sighed in resignation, ' Trust me my I don't have a great relationship with Cerberus either but I don't have many options right now, and as for you well you've been recommended to me for recruitment on a quite frankly suicidal mission to stop a race called the Collectors from harvesting human colonies.'
Jason leaned back again, a thoughtful look on his face. 'Hmm, you don't mince your words do you. So, let me get this straight, you want me to join you a Spectre thought dead, to work with an organisation I hate with all my being, to go on a suicide mission to prevent a race that is thought to be a myth to save people I don't know.'
'Pretty much.' Shepard replied, a frown of resignation adorning her (criminally attractive, Jason thought) face.
'Huh, count me in Commander, free of charge.' Jason replied.
Shepard' s eyebrows rose in surprise as she replied. 'Really, well that went better than I thought it would. I guess a welcome to the team is in order.'
'Meh you caught me in a good mood, so when do we begin?' Jason asked.
'Now,' Shepard said standing up, 'we're heading to recruit another prospective member of the team called Archangel and we need to hurry, if Aria's information is correct then Archangel might not have much time left.'
'Ahh yes Archangel, I've heard of him and his vigilante crusade here on Omega. It seems that ill have no shortage of fun following you around Commander, lead on.' Jason said finishing his drink and standing.
Shepard simply smiled at him before thanking him for joining her. Jason and Shepard proceeded to leave Afterlife, Jacob and Miranda in following silently. Jason silently listened as Shepard and Miranda expanded further on the two prospective team members and on what they knew of of situation with the disappearing human colonies.
As Shepard and Miranda finished up informing Jason of the situation the group fell silent as they drew nearer to Archangel's location and the sound of gunfire became prevalent.
Jason couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement mixed with trepidation as the reality of joining Commander Shepard's team sank in. He smiled as their group approached the mercenaries attacking Archangel, thinking that if nothing else, he wouldn't be bored for the foreseeable future.
Well that's chapter 2 and Jason has joined up with Commander Shepard. As you may have noticed my first two chapters have been quite short and that's probably gonna stay the same throughout this fic as it is my first Fanfic and I'm not sure I have the drive to write much more.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading this and ill see you next time.
