Twenty-One Is the Loneliest Number
Gilmore Girls, Season 6, episode 7.
Barry and Kara both had idea what had happened. One minute they were enjoying their tv show, then a strange British man came, then he left, now they ended up here. They inspected, not expected, their new surroundings that reminded the two of someplace. It was well kept and uptight fancy for high class residents.
"Where are we?" Barry asked Kara. He turned to find Kara dressed differently. She had on before a white short sleeve t-shirt with denim overall dress and floral flat sneakers. Now she had on a blue and white polka dot top with long black skirt and short heels. "When'd you change?" The scarlet speedster asked the alien speedster.
"Me? How about you?"
Barry looked down and saw that he too had changed clothes. First was red slim light sweater with the sleeves rolled up and denim jeans with sneakers. Now he had on a white button down shirt, black vest, brown suite jacket and dark business suite pants with shiny black shoes. "I didn't though."
"Neither did I." Kara replied. She took her glasses off and tried to use x-ray to get clues. No x-ray. She blew enough that would blow wind and push Barry a little, but not enough to crash him into a wall. Nothing. "Can you run?"
Barry ran down one end of the hallway, fast as he could, but was running like a non metahuman. He ran back to her. "No powers."
"Again."
"You don't think Music Miser has anything to do with this right?"
"Why would he? We aren't fighting with Iris or Mon-El so what would the lesson be this time?" She questioned. Without thinking she continued, "Don't let a guy tell you that the pull-out methods works because you'll end up like this!" She gestured to her large belly. She realized what she had said aloud. Or did she think that? Sheepishly looking at her friend she questioned, "Did...Did I say something personal now?"
He nodded with still shock on his face. Not from what Kara just said but still perplexed by this new location they were in. "Future reference, one that I learned in high school with a pregnancy scare with my sophomore and junior year girlfriend Gracie, pull out is almost never a perfect protection."
She smirked. "Thanks Alex. So, where do we go now?"
Barry hitched his thumb back. "Staircase back there. Guess we head down and find more clues."
The two friends had walked over and down the oh so familiar stare. Once they reached down and saw the front door they made their way over. But not too far as they heard conversation in the other room. People? Surely they could pull off as walking into the wrong home, right? They turned around and walked to the opposite end of the room.
Behold them were people that they knew. Two brunettes, one older and other younger, and two older men about the same age as the older brunette. They had stopped conversation when one of the older men asked, "And to whom we are greeted with?" All three heads looked to Barry and Kara.
They looked at one another then back at the table. "Kara Danvers."
"Barry Allen."
The older woman spoke, "Rory are these friends of yours?"
Rory?
The younger woman looked over at the older. "No, I don't know them Grandma."
"Richard, get them out of my house!" The grandmother shouted in anger.
"Very well, Emily."
Rory, Richard and Emily. They each thought. They looked at one another again. GILMORE GIRLS!
Richard stood up and straighten his throat. "I'm sorry but if you don't leave the premises at once than I will be forced to call the—"
It hit Barry. "Logan's friends." He said. Everyone, including Kara, stared at him. "I met Logan at a party a few years back. He was talking to someone named Jack who had a girlfriend named Rose. They were sorta jumpy." He looked at Rory with a certain look; one that was too imply where he had met Logan. She smiled. "And this is my friend Kara."
"Hi. Yeah, uh," Kara continued. "Logan knew we were driving by this area and asked if, uh, Rory could give us the...CD he lent her."
The younger brunette nodded. "Right. I remember, I'll go get it for you, follow me." She said as she got up.
The older adults gave looks but went back to talking about something else. Kara and Barry followed Rory. They stopped and she turned to them. "Who are you!?" She asked.
Kara said, "Look Rory, I promise you that we sort of just ended up here."
"Did Mary Poppins drop you off?"
"Wrong house. We were suppose to end up at...Sal Sallingers house. We got the address mixed up when we looked in the bedrooms. We're getting back at him with a prank." She lied so easily. "I promise."
The blue eye brunette seemed to hesitate at first but then nodded. "Okay, I guess." She thought for a moment. "Look I have no idea why my grandparents brought Reverend Ned Flanders to the house but could you stay here a little bit. Something is off."
"No shit." Barry muttered. "Sure thing."
They returned. Emily asked if the CD was given, though Rory said she didn't have it so Logan must had lent to someone else. She told her that Kara and Barry came from a town three hours over and were on their way home and has now offered them dinner. "They just want some bread and water."
Emily forced a smile. Great! Plans had changed! She nodded. "So, Barry Allen and Kara Danvers. Interesting names."
"Barry, are you related to a Herman Allen?"
"No sir." Barry said from his seat to the left of Rory.
"Kara, Montgomery Danvers?"
"No sir."
"Hmm, I wonder where those salads are? Will you excuse me? I'll be right back," Emily polity excused herself, got up and left the room.
Kara leaned over to Barry, who looked at her. They both smiled; they knew what was to come.
"You know," He began. "Emily ordered some of that wonderful Irish butter. You haven't had rolls until you've had them with Irish butter. I'll be right back." And as if on cue, he was gone in less than thirty seconds.
Barry and Kara to each side of Rory, who sat directly across from the Reverend. The conversation between Rory and the Reverend had happened (telling Rory that her grandparents are proud of her and that her birthday was coming, specifically her twenty-first and the world being at her hands and her boyfriend). Then came the best part of this scene in this episode, they recalled.
Reverend said, "You know, Rory, being a young lady comes with many gifts. Your virtue, for example, is a gift, a precious gift, possibly the most precious gift you possess."
Kara rolled her eyes, nearly to the back of her head. Oh Rao!
Rory went, "Uh huh..."
"You want to give this gift very carefully. It is a gift you can only give to one man. Once you give it, it's gone, you cant re-gift it. If you give it away too soon, to the wrong man, then when the right one does come along, you have no gift to give... you'll have to buy him a sweater. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"No."
"Think long and hard about when and to whom you want to give the ultimate gift you have to give away.
"Oh." Rory put the pieces together.
Probably should had warn her, Barry thought.
"Yes."
"Oh dear..."
"Oh dear indeed."
Kara and Barry secretly smirked; Showtime.
"Um, well, listen, Reverend, I really appreciate you taking the time out of what I assume is a busy day to come here and talk to me about... all of this, but I'm afraid the ultimate gift ship has sailed."
"What?"
"A while ago... it's probably in Fiji by now."
"Oh...well." Clearly, the Reverend was uncomfortable with this now. It equal to Rory's emotions although hers was more annoyed since she just figured why this guy was here.
She looked at Barry and asked casually, "Anyone owe you a sweater?"
He blushed berry red. "Sure?" His voice squeaked. Now the third uncomfortable person in the room.
"Hmm." She nodded. "Interesting. Kara," She turned to the opposite side of her. "You owe anyone a sweater or is your baby's father the captain of the ultimate gift ship?"
She blushed and answered quietly. "No...he needs a sweater." She was a final one to feel uncomfortable. "Rory? Where is the bathroom?"
"Up the stairs end of the hallway to the right."
"Great. I'll be back." Kara stood from her chair and began to leave.
"I'm next." Barry stood and followed her.
The two quickly moved to the staircase. They were still in complete and utter shock about what just happened. They interacted in a scene with fictional characters. So much like their musical adventure and yet not the same since they now seemed to follow script or, at least, add on to it.
"That's insane. This has to be someone else involved!"
"But who Kara? Music Miser?"
"What about Eliton? He was there before this happened and right after he left. But why send us here if he had nothing to do with us is the real thing." She looked around. "How do we even get out?"
Barry shrugged. He had no idea. Maybe if they looked around the house they could escape and get back to the real world. He and Kara followed up the stairs and to the hallway (turned out Kara wasn't making an excuse to get out of the dining room, she literally had to use the bathroom).
While she was gone Barry began his search to a door or something. He came across one door and opened it. Lorelai's childhood room and, soon to be, Rory's room while the pool house was unexpected being used as storage. The Tv in the room facing the bed was on and glowing brightly. Barry walked over and stared at the TV. It was static but no static sound came out. Next to the tv was the remote. But it was the same as the one before. A golden remote. "Kara!" He called out.
Kara rushed back into the room. "Yeah?"
He held up the remote. "This got us in, this can get us out."
"That's what she said," Kara laughed. "Is there an eject button?"
"Yes."
"Let's try that." She stood next to him.
Barry pressed eject.
Just as before, a glow came around the two of them. A second later, they were out of the house.
In the real world Mon-El arrived at the West House. Just as he arrived to the door Iris opened the door with her flash drive. "Oh hey."
"Hey. Are Kara and Barry inside?" He asked.
"No. They should still be at the apartment." Iris said. "Are they there?"
"No. I went back and they were gone."
"Maybe they went to Star Labs for some reason. Come on, I'll drive."
Read and review, pretty please.
