The Adventure Has Begun

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It had been weeks since Benny had left me alone in the cave. I had given up counting the days when I reached number 30, which is about as high as I can count in the first place. It had never been too important for me to learn very many things other than how to survive. But now, not knowing how long it had been, I was going crazy. I missed Benny something fierce and with how quiet the territory was, I didn't have anything to do, so I went out to look for him.
That's how I found myself here, in a tree once again, watching a filthy looking man talk to my Benny. It took me three days to find him, and upon closer inspection, I found that the man Benny was with seemed different. I couldn't find any oddities with him that would rank him as a monster. I didn't like not knowing things, the unknown was dangerous. And that made this man a danger. I followed them for the rest of the day, waiting for my moment to attack, and just when I was about to move in I felt a hand on my shoulder. Reacting on instinct I grabbed the attackers wrist and dropped low, slinging him over my shoulder so that he landed with a groan on the ground. "Benny?" I questioned once I saw who it was. The vampire just laughed, blue eyes sparkling.
"I was wondering just how long it would take for you to find us." He said, though I only understood a few of the words he spoke I knew he was proud and happy that I was there. Beaming slightly under his praise I helped him up, turning to stare at the stranger I had just about attacked. The man's bright green eyes stared at me in distrust, and I knew my own (E/C) reflected the image back at him. "Easy now (Y/N), this is Dean. He's a friend." The man scoffed slightly and I narrowed my eyes, not completely trusting Benny's judgment, though I sheathed my blade.
"What is he?" I asked stiffly, my voice thick from the lack of use, the feel of my tongue flicking over the words strange to me. The words were sort of garbled to my ears but I must have said them right because Benny answered immediately, though it wasn't making any sense.
"Dean here is not a monster, at least not like what you and I are used to," Benny said, his British accent the only thing normal to me at this point. "He's human." I didn't understand the word, never had I heard it before and I had not seen one in Purgatory. "He's going to get us out of here." My gaze flicked over to Benny's as I let his words run through my brain.
"We leave?" I could barely discern the words myself and I wasn't sure if I was completely understanding them, but the vampire's nod assured me that I wasn't doing as bad as I had thought originally. A second after he confirmed my question I felt a rush of anxiety, fear, and glee rush through me and I had to lean against a tree for a moment as I tried to separate the feelings and figure out just what my brain was trying to say.
"We have to find his friend though." The British vampire said softly, resting a hand on my shoulder, the firm fingers squeezing gently and bringing me back to reality. "Castiel, an Angel. Have you heard anything?" He brought his hand up to his ear to help me understand. I knew the word Angel, but the name Castiel didn't bring any sort of recollection. Shaking my head I dropped my gaze in embarrassed disappointment. "Don't worry (Y/N), it's not your fault."
"Can you tell me what the hell is going on here?" The stranger, Dean, said, bringing my attention back to him quickly. A soft growl rose in my throat at his annoyed tone, and he sent another glare my way. Tensing my muscles I felt Benny squeeze my shoulder again to restrain me from going after him. "Who is she anyway? I already agreed to let you hitchhike back to earth but I don't know anything about her."
I didn't need to understand what he was talking about to know that Dean wasn't happy with my arrival. I was about to lunge at him and prove to him that she didn't approve of his tone when Benny's harsh voice whipped the air. "She's coming, no question about it. I raised her from a babe, and I am not leaving her here alone. She wouldn't survive on her own." He growled, the edges of his fangs creeping through his gums. My eyes darted to the ground, muscles tensing at the tone in his voice. Very rarely had he ever spoken like this, and each time it made me feel like I had done something wrong. His reassuring squeeze on my shoulder had me relaxing slightly.
It didn't take much convincing after that for Dean to agree, albeit reluctantly, to let me come along. And with that, we continued our long journey, out of the territory I grew up in and into the unknown. I wasn't sure if I was excited, scared, or nervous about what was ahead of us, but I was happy that I had my Benny back. I filled him in, using our own methods of communication, on the creatures that I had killed while he was away, enjoying the praises he sent towards me and the one-armed hugs that he gave. If I had known what would happen when we got to the gate, I don't think I would have been this excited. But things seldom go as planned, and I am once again doomed to fall into the shadows.
