"And I can't even remember now, what she backed my bike into, but she covered her mouth and her face got red and she just looked so damn cute. And I tried not, to let her see… me laugh."

"Please Soul! I promise it will only be for a few hours!"

"Maka, why can't you just wait till I'm done hanging with Black*Star? Then I can take you myself."

"Because Soul, I already told Tsubaki I'd pick her up!" I frowned and looked up from my guitar, flinching as one of the strings I'd been tuning snapped and nearly took my nose with it.

"What? Why?"

"Girl's night?" I glared at the guitar and set it aside then stood from my bed.

"You always said how much you thought the bike was a safety hazard. Why do you want to take it all of a sudden?" I raised a brow and watched her cross her arms and puff her cheeks up.

"Yea, well forget what I said soul! Besides I'm older now. Seventeen is a good age to be driving. Not fourteen or anything younger." I widened my eyes and stepped around her to leave the room. "Hey! Don't look at me like that."

"Like what? Besides you still rode it anyway." I shuffled into the kitchen and opened the fridge.

"...Forget it, so the keys?" She reached her hand in my face and wiggled her fingers around. I groaned and closed the fridge door.

"We need to go shopping. There's like nothing to eat."

"Soouuull!"

"Whaat?"

"Keys? Please?"

"Why are you so persistent?"

"Why are you so stubborn?"

"I'm the stubborn one?" I rolled my eyes and leaned on the counter, crossing my arms.

"Yes, you are Maka. Besides, I still don't get why I can't take you. Let me just go shoot a few hoops and I'll drop you and Tsubaki off wherever it is you girls wanna hang. Then just call me and I'll pick you up. Why's that so difficult?"

"We'll I don't want you to cut your bro time short, and before you say it, no I don't want to go with you but I appreciate the invite. Tsubaki and I already made plans." I blinked at her and scratched my head.

"Okay. But you don't have a license, so? I know Miss Albarn would never break a law right?" She smiled sweetly and held up a small glossy card, complete with her photo. My eyes widened and I leaned in closer to it. "When did yo- Hey, your hair is down why'd y-" She shoved the card back to wherever she'd summoned it from and huffed loudly.

"I thought it'd benefit me if I looked older…"

"Oh yea? H-" She 'innocently' started sifting through the cookbook on the counter and I instantly shut my jaw and cleared my throat. "Ahem, like I was saying. You look uh, sophisticated." She beamed widely and clasped her hands together.

"Thank you Soul~!"

.

.

"What! You gave them up just like that?" I cringed and rubbed my ear.

"No, Black*Star we had a civilized conversation. I did not 'bow to her will' or whatever it was that you said." I tossed the ball to the hoop, cursing when it bounced off the rim.

"But she don't have a license!" I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"Apparently she does now."

"Did you SeE it?"

"Yes"

"WHAT! HOW COULD SHE GET ONE BEFORE ME?" I glared and took out about ten feet between us. I deadpanned and shook my head.

"Dude, you don't even drive."

"But! If I NEEDED too?" I watched him pace up and down the court.

"Then you'd ask Tsubaki." I added reasonably "obviously."

"No! A god like me would never submit to the help of one of my subjects!" I raised a brow.

"Tsubaki is a subject now?" He threw the ball with both hands at the hoop, lodging it between the rim and the backboard.

"Nice~"

"Ugh! No! I mean! Gahhhh! Soul look what you made me do!" I rolled my eyes and walked over to the rim.

"Uh huh, watch and learn how a real master gets things done." I jumped, reaching up and smacking the ball out of the rim in one go.

"It's just 'cause your stupid peasant legs are longer now!" He tried to snatch the ball from me but I held it above my head. "I coulda done that!" I smirked and held it higher.

"Then do it." He howled in (rage?) And jumped up, arms flailing. I grimanced and stepped back. "Watch it monkey, I ain't no tree."

"COULDA FOOLED ME!" He leaped once more and snatched the ball from my grip, running over to the hoop and dunking it (quite obnoxiously) "YAHOO! Now kiss my boots."

"No dude you just tied us! 'sides I never agreed to that stupidity!" He landed next to me and slapped me hard on the back. I grunted and stumbled forward.

"It's okay Soul, I understand you have issues."

"What?"

"In any case! Let's talk about your lack of dominance in your partnership." I scoffed and walked over to where I'd left my phone.

"Excuse me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"Well OBVIOUSLY you have a weakened min-" I sighed and scanned the texts on my screen.

.

Maka: "Hi Soul~ we'll be coming back around 7pm! If your home already could you whip something up please!"

Maka: (10 min later) "Hey! I know it's my day to cook but I forgot!"

Maka:(5 min later) "If your still busy don't worry about it! If it's okay with you we can eat sandwiches or something and I can cook tomorrow?"

.

I shoved the phone back into my pocket and grabbed my bag. "Hey Black*Star I gotta go now. Maka's almost home an-"

"THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!" I felt my eye twitch and I slung my bag over my shoulder.

"Whatever, see ya around dude." I logged off the court in an attempt to leave him sooner. Death knew I didn't want to hear his mouth anymore.

'i think I have enough time to run to the grocery store before she gets back…'

.

.

"Oh shoot! Ugh I hope it's no- Shit now what! Ugh he's gonna be so upset!" I tilted my head and hurried around the corner 'why's Maka sound so upset?'

"Everything okay Maka?" She gasped loudly and spun around so fast her pigtail slapped her cheek.

"Soul! Uh… h-how was your day?" I rose a brow and walked over to her curiously.

"Fine?" I set the grocery bags I'd been carrying on the sidewalk and peaked over her shoulder. She leaned over slightly to block my vision. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing! I just um…" I leaned over more and saw it. There sat the bike with quite an impressive dent in it.

"Ma-"

"I'M SO SORRY! it was an accident and I knew if I tur-" I tilted my head as she jumped out of my way and flung her hands to her mouth. The redder she got the wider my grin was.

"You're okay right?" Her eyes widened further and she nodded vigorously. I relaxed when she did in fact look fine. Something along the lines of crazy and furious left her lips. What with her eyes like widened saucers and her cheeks like tomatoes, I couldn't help the laugh that cut her rant. She sputtered and crossed her arms.

"What's so funny?!"

"Nothing, nothing." I nodded to the grocery bags and picked them up again. She gasped quietly and wrestled one of the bags from my hand. Her voice had softened considerably and she shifted on her feet.

"You went shopping?" I nodded.

"Yup, how's Taco's sound?"

"Great~!" She smiled and fiddled with her hair. "You're not mad?"

"I'm fine if you are."

"Uh?"

"Are you?"

"Yes."

"There ya go." I motioned for her to head into the apartment. " 'Sides it's just a bike. I can fix it." She laughed lightly and started up the steps. I fell into step behind her, just realizing the cream colored dress she had on. "Where'd ya go anyway?"

"Me and Tsu went to this nice play! It was so good! I'm sure you'd love it too! Or at least appreciate it. The music was good too! We really should go toget-"

"You should wear red next time." She paused and looked over her shoulder. I stopped just before my face ran into her backside. I swallowed thickly and took a step down the steps. "Hey, Why the hold up?"

"Why?"

"Huh?"

"Why red?" I shrugged and grinned.

"You look cute with red."

.

.

And there it was again, a fine shade of red.
