A/N: Well this is the second chapter. Um Yer
Lily awoke the next day tiered and uncomfortable. Drawing back her curtains she expected to see dazzling sunlight, yet she was met with the light haze of dawn.
Blimey, she thought to herself, it must be really early.
She sat back down on her four-poster but got up quickly remembering why she was having trouble sleeping in the first place. Deciding it was better to go for a walk rather than sitting there wallowing in the past she left the room.
A while later she was approaching the front doors ready to step out in to the new day, however unbeknown to her a figure was following close behind.
As her hands pressed forcefully against the oak doors she realised that she was too weak but at that moment another pair of hand placed them selves next to hers and together they pushed the door open.
"Thank you James." She said without looking up, for there was no need.
"My pleasure." He smiled warmly. He reached in to his pocket and withdrew a small neatly wrapped package.
"January 30th. Happy birthday." He held it out to her tenderly. "I know we don't really get on-"
"No james. I think," Lily smiled back. "that after 7 years we are starting to get on."
He grinned "nice pyjamas."
They exchanged no more words, but satisfied they looked out across the grounds. The grass wet with crystals and the sun white with the winter chill.

"There you are!!" Mary ran across the entrance hall as lily entered alone. She was a good friend to lily, but it had been a long time since lily had called someone 'best friend'.
"Happy birthday!" her arms enveloped lily in a bone crushing hug. She drew back with a slightly embarrassed face.
"Now I know that you got me those really funky bell bottom jeans for my birthday, and it's no like I'm not going to get you something. It's just-"
But lily saved her friend from further embarrassment. Mary was generous and giving, but lily knew that she was far from rich. With only her dad left to support 4 children Mary rarely had enough money to spend on her self let alone other people.
"Its ok chick, just seeing you is present enough for me." She squeezed Mary's hand knowingly.
"Come on, let get breakfast!"
The pair proceeded into the great hall were they sat at Gryffindor table not to far away from a group of boys that were suspiciously huddled around a piece of parchment.
The tallest of the group looked up as they sat down. He had long brown hair and the top buttons of his school shirt were rebelliously left undone. His handsome young blue eyes crinkled into a smiled as he wished lily a happy birthday.
"Thanks Sirius!" replied lily returning the smile. At that point the rest of them looked up.
All of them looked tiered, yet none more than one blonde boy in particular. His stormy grey eyes told a tale of friendship and at the moment they were relatively cheery. But lily knew there was more to Reamus than met the eye.
The boy on his left looked away as fast as he had looked up. He seemed more concerned with the parchment before him. Slightly shorter than Sirius yet slimmer built. A mop of messy black hair sat upon his head and his hazel eyes were behind rectangular glasses. Yet his appearance was overall quite good looking.
"Lovely morning James isn't it?" murmured lily without looking at him. He did not answer but from the corners on her eyes she faintly saw the edges of his mouth crease into a small smile.
"Oh Yer, happy birthday lily!" Piped up the last boy of the group. His was the shortest with a slightly babyish pointed face that always reminded lily of a lazy rat. He was by no means unintelligent though, none of them were. In fact these boys had the highest test scores in the year and it had been James alongside lily that had been made head boy and girl this year for that reason.
Upon first hearing that news lily had not at all been surprised that James was head boy, and if she was honest she was glad it was him and not Severus. She had heard that he had taken on 3 extra tutors in an attempt to gain the place.
"So what are you guys working on?" asked Mary snapping lily back to reality.
"Well as you know it is the year 1977 and coincidentally also our last year at Hogwarts my dear friend. So we have decided to pull the most memorable prank this school has ever, or ever will know!" supplied Sirius enthusiastically.
"Well maybe not what Hogwarts will ever see, but it will be really good anyway." Winked James.
The bell sounded for first period and the hall was filled with the sound of scrapping chairs as the students left. As lily got up to leave Mary grabbed her arm.
"I'm glad that you and James get on better now. He's changed a lot I've noticed. Grown up a bit I daresay"
"You know what Mary? I was thinking the same thing."

"What! You don't think I'd do it! How dare you insult your majesty!" Roared lily, jumping on to her bed with a firewisky bottle in her hand.
The girls of Gryffindor dorm gathered around her, all of them quite drunk. They didn't usually drink but as today was lily's birthday they felt a proper celebration was in hand.
"No!" screamed Josie frantically "you would never do it!"
The girls fell about the room laughing. Lily glared at them in mock anger.
"Right then I shall have to prove you wrong!" and with that she leapt from the bed, wrenched open the door and ran down the stairs, all four girls close behind.
They reached the bottom and began to giggle until lily held up a finger pretending to be sober. She clumsily tiptoed across the room before reaching the boys stairs. Somewhere in the back of her cloudy mind lily knew that there would be something to prevent her from going up the boy's stairs, as there was on the girls. Only, no one had ever tried it before.
She turned to the girls. "I regret that this is the end!" she stammered in a very loud whisper. "I am going now and true to my word I shall kiss the first boy I see as is our now new tradition!"
However unfortunately for her she had awoken many a boys with her disturbing drunkenness and a few had gathered at the top of the stairs.
Lily peered up, "hullo boys!" she called with a few wolf whistles in reply. She could now see the marauders arriving to smirk at the very merry lily.
"Well here I go!" and without a seconds thought she ran full speed up the stairs.
The girls whooped and ran to see if she had made it, and as lily reached the top stair it seemed as though she was victorious, that was until the bottle slipped from her hand. In a split moment she had turned to grab it and tripped, just as two boys dived forward to stop her falling not noticing the stairs transform into a slide. The 3 of them shoot down the slide and landed with a crash in the common room.
Everybody began to roar with laughter and they got up groaning and massaging the new bruises.
The seventh year boys came down and soon everyone was talking and thanking lily for her amusing performance. It wasn't what you would call a party but there was no doubt everyone was enjoying the late night get together.
Later she looked back at that night and knew that it was mostly a fuzzy blur. But amongst the mixed up mirage or memory she could distinctly see James catching her eye and winking.
A/N: Ha-ha chapter two already. Well I think that you should all know I am skipping work for this so feel privileged oh and encase anyone cares this story is set in the 70's were it should be (and yes the birthdays and the dates are correct) so please do not think I have some odd taste in fashion, I am merely trying to make this as believable as I can.
Review please!
