Chapter 1

- The Isolated Moon -

Jack let the wind's wild gusts carry him across the Atlantic Ocean to Northern Europe, starlight twinkling above him and clouds swirling around. Upon arrival, he threw himself towards the ground and, catching himself with an icy breeze, covered the earths crust with a layer of fresh frost. He froze the pavement, frosted the fields and scattered snow storms across the countryside. With just a flick of a wrist Jack was able to do the impossible, spreading winter with abilities far beyond human comprehension.

Seeing that he was finished, he audibly instructed the wind to take him to Berk. He had a friend there he hadn't seen in awhile. The friend hasn't seen him either- or ever. Jack stopped in his tracks and his face softened, cerulean eyes darkening and the threat of yet another brooding depression hovering above. One hundred and ninety seven years and still no one believed in him, no one had the faintest idea that a mischievous boy legends spoke of was real. How could he not be, when he could breath and hear and smell and see and laugh just like that of humans, whose lives flicked on an off like candlelight. For a moment he considered embracing the depression, letting the ache of not feeling consume his thin frame, but then he smiled and shook that feeling away.

It was time to see his favorite Viking, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third. Last time he had seen him Hiccup was being shunned for being unable to kill a dragon, and always being in the wrong place at the wrong time. His own father wouldn't even let him out of the house, and he was the most influential figure on the island, aside from the elder. The truth of the matter is that Jack pitied the poor boy. He felt a sort of kinsman ship with someone who felt just as lonely as he, and was consider even bigger of a mess-up than he. All the adults were ashamed of Hiccup, viewing him as a disgrace, and all his peers picked on him. There wasn't an easier target than one whom no one would defend. Albeit whenever jack caught someone bullying the boy he made sure some ill fate befell them. -

- "he kill'd 'em!?", the little girl with red hair exclaimed, thinking back to the deep blue eyes that had seemed so kind yet so sad. The mother laughed, trying to imagine Jack killing anyone. "Aye supoose Aye need t' worrd thigs bet'er! He dinea 'ill 'em, 'e played pranks on 'em." The little girl shook her head not understanding. "like what?" She asked. The mother smiled." Like freezin' the ground under ther boots or usin'the wind to mess up ther aim durin' training. Once he covered someone completely with frost so they were stiff legged all day." The child giggled. "Now will ye let me continue with the story?" The little girl rolled her green eyes and nodded.

Jack found Hiccup not in his home but in the woods instead. The kid never could keep himself cooped up, that was another thing the two had in common. Hiccup was moving carefully, looking around him to see if anyone followed. After assuring himself of his solitude, Hiccup pulled out a note book and a piece of caracole to write with. Jack, knowing Hiccup couldn't see him causally walked with him, his staff on his shoulder and his hands in his hoodie pocket. He even whistled a bit, causing a cool breeze to waft in. He stopped when he noticed Hiccup getting even more skittish, growing lacy, fern-like frost across ancient tree bark. The kid was searching for something, but after joining him on countless hunts for trolls, Jack didn't really care.

When Hiccup stopped in his tracks, Jack attempted to move around him, but then Hiccup moved into the spirits path. There was noting Jack hated more than the feeling of someone walking through him, and he would do and anything to avoid it. When it happens, its like his entire being is denied, pain flashing through him and the undeniable evidence that he didn't exist branding itself unto his exposed soul.

Hiccup moved in his way again and Jack rolled his blue eyes, shooting himself up and into the trees. In a low branch, Jack gasped, eyes locking on just what Hiccup had been looking for. It was no troll, but instead a large, black dragon tangled tightly with rough ropes. Jack looked down to Hiccup's shaking form, quivering behind a mound of dirt, dagger clutched tightly. He closed his green eyes, taking in deep breaths and building up his confidence.

Jack smirked when Hiccup got up and started talking to himself excitedly. He proclaimed that he brought down this mighty beast, foot coming to rest on its thick, muscle tightened side. Jack was aware of the beasts alive state and the moment Hiccup touched it the beast's large eye shot open. It had large green, cat like eyes with black slits down the middle, blue and yellow veins swirling throughout the emerald hue. They bore right into Hiccup, who had launched himself backwards about 6 feet in pure terror.

Jack didn't get to see what happened next because he was hit by a wave of sadness. Even the dragon couldn't see him. Although it was magical it still had to believe in some sort of winter spirt to become aware of its existence. To these humans, a dragon was more plausible that an invisible boy.

Jack looked back up to see Hiccup, raising his tiny dagger above his head, low voice promising to cut out its heart. And now Jack's fellow outcast was to become one with his brethren.

Jack shook his head and flew away, biting back tears.

End of chapter one

Depressing I know but don't worry Jack will get believers! As for the part were the dialogue cut in, the story is still being told by future Merida. And again I will use the excuse and say that I'm not a very good writer and that's one of the reasons why I'm writing this. And also that I have a story in my head and I need to get it out. I will post two to three times a week. If you're in the midst of reading this and you notice that the chapter's qualities are changing, its because I'm editing my old chapters to improve them.
