Chapter 2: Death by Knight
KARR arrived at 43rd and Hammerly, and Ken climbed out. He looked around. He looked at the cop and he flashed his CIA badge. "Ken Franklyn, CIA. I was brought in, so I do need to know what happened here," Ken said. The cop smiled. "A guy by the name of CJ Jackson and a gang of 3 men broke into the Century Bank and they stole 3 million in stocks, bonds and money diamonds. Then he turned on his partners and killed them. He's holding a bank teller by the name of Sally Reese hostage. Negotiations with our hostage negotiator fell apart. We need help," the cop said. Ken stared at him and then climbed back into KARR.
"Give me some idea as to how to take this guy down," Ken asked. KARR hesitated and then spoke, "I can microjam the cameras and monitor you and the Police will surround Mr. Jackson," KARR finally responded. A panel slid open and a gun with a silencer was in it. Ken took it. He climbed out of the firebird and he motioned for 4 of the cops to come with him. He stared at the Com-link that he had been given and he stared at the bank full of people CJ held captive. "Go for it KARR," he said. The newly installed microwave jamming system shorted out all the bank's cameras. Ken motioned for the cops to move forward. Cj saw the cops and then saw Ken move from near the Trans Am and he shot him. Ken flew back from the impact of the bullet and he felt 4 more bullets. CJ then shot the cops as well. CJ ran out the bank door. Ken crawled along the ground and stared at KARR in shock at the betrayal. Suddenly a temporal portal opened and a young girl appeared. The portal closed. The girl saw Ken on the ground and KARR.
"KARR?" The girl asked. The vehicle moved to where she stood near the dying body of Ken.
"Do I know you?" The car asked. She smiled through the tears.
"Yes. I'm Hannah Marie Melvin. You were created by Lionel Luthor Wilton Knight. We need to get this man to a hospital," Hannah begged. KARR opened the doors of the car, and Hannah, 15-Years-Old, dragged and picked up Ken and put him in the passenger seat. The door closed and she climbed into the driver' seat.
"Nearest hospital as quick as possible, KARR," Hannah said turning to stare at Ken. She saw the shifter shift from Park to drive and they were off.
Los Angeles Medical Hospital: Doctor Vincent Miles stared at Ken Franklyn at the loss of blood. He turned to stare the 15-year-old girl. In walked a cop. The doctor stared at him.
"Hi, Officer how can I help you," the doctor stared at the detective who flashed his badge.
"Detective Michael Long, Dr. Miles. What's the deal with your patient and the girl who brought him here," Michael said. He pointed to the girl.
"The girl said a CJ Jackson shot this guy. He claimed his backup didn't arrive and CJ shot him more times I can count on my fingers. The girl looked shaken up. She claimed she came from somewhere that was similar to here," Dr. Miles said. Michael smiled. He then looked at Ken.
"Who is he?" Michael asked. The nurse who was attending to Ken held up a CIA badge. "Detective this guy is a little above your pay rate. This guy who ever he is, he's a Fed. If you want you can talk to the girl. Doctor Miles has to call this guy's superior," The Nurse said. He saw the girl drinking some hot tea on a bed.
"What's your name?" Michael asked her. "My name is Hannah Marie Melvin. I don't have what you would call a social security number. Where I come from, the government is so oppressive that they would use that against you. My fingerprints are in a Federal database I assume," Hannah said. Dr. Miles walked up to him.
"Someone here to take care of the kid detective," he said. Hannah turned to see Charles Graiman and Michael saw the fear on her face. Michael rose up and grabbed Hannah's hand as the two walked up to Dr. Graiman.
"Detective Michael Long, I presume?" Charles said. Michael nodded. "Dr. Charles Graiman, President and CEO of Knight Industries. I'd like to take the girl in for a physical while we identify her next of kin," Charles said. Hannah backed away. "No, Regent. Not again," She said as she tried to run but two orderlies stopped her.
"What about the CIA guy? The guy who the doctors won't let me identify," Michael asked. "He was helping us with a field test, and unfortunately it got him killed. I'm having my company look for his next of kin," Charles said. Michael stared at the girl. "What's so special about the girl, Dr. Graiman?" Michael asked.
"That's what got us bugged, Detective. We were alerted when her fingerprints showed up in a Federal database. It appears, Mr. Long, She's dead," Charles said. Charles and Hannah walked out and Michael's partner Frank Muntzy walked up behind him.
"Hey partner," Michael said. "Your new friend Graiman was right about one thing. He was right about the girl. I managed to get into the Federal Bureau's new Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System and the girl is dead. She's been dead for 5 years," Frank said. They both stared at the now deceased body of Ken Franklyn as it was being taken to the morgue.
"Muntzy, what the hell is going on here," Michael mused...
