Chapter 2:

It was now mid morning and Katara had told Sokka about last night. He walked towards the embarrassed nomad.

"So aang," he started, "you're growing up and well, you're gonna go through some changes with your body and mind."

Aang looked at Sokka with confusion, "what's going to happen to my mind?"

"You will start liking girls," Sokka replied, "you will become more mature and well, you will just grow up."

"But what if I don't?" Aang looked up at Sokka with beady eyes.

"Don't worry everyone grows up," he replied, his mouth twisted into a half smirk.

"But what if I don't start liking girls?"

Sokka stared down at the young boy in confusion, "hmm"

He wasn't quite sure what Aang meant, and was having a hard time answering him.

"well Aang, everyone starts liking girls maybe you just need more time," he reassured the confused boy.

Aang said thank you and joined Appa outside to think. "What if I'm not gay? What if I just haven't grown up yet?"

Inside Aang knew the truth, but wanted a small amount of hope that he was straight.

Aang was walking the streets of Ba Sing Se when he saw two boys holding hands.

"Why are they holding hands?" He thought to himself, "aren't they afraid of people thinking they're gay?"

Aang followed the boys around until they reached a big house. The two looked around to see if the coast was clear, then entered an underground tunnel using earth bending, Aang copied what they did and continued on his voyage. He walked aimlessly for what seemed like hours, when he came across a group of men and women and from the looks of it they were all gay. Aang was amazed to see this many people like him. All along he thought he was the only one but he was wrong. Aang came upon the biggest room in the town and saw an elderly man who looked like the leader of this strange tribe.

"Um sir? What is this place?" Aang was afraid of the answer.

The man looked at the young boy and could tell by his eyes he was in great amounts of emotional pain.

" Tell me boy," the man's voice was soft and calming, "why did you come to our hideout we call Tian Tang?"

"Sir, how are all these people cursed like me? I wish I could help them all" Aang replied.

"Help them?!" The man replied in shock, "being gay is not a curse, it's who you are and no one can change that," he got up to stretch his arms, "that is why we live here because we try to help people like you, but if the earth kingdom found us they would close this great town down, so we are forced to hide."

Aang never thought of being gay as a gift, and he almost felt relieved that he discovered this place. Aang then thanked the man and went back home before they got worried.

Aang still wasn't ready to reveal his secret to everyone, but he thought Sokka might understand because he was a boy.

"Sokka um, do you think it's ok for two guys to like each other?" Aang could feel blood rushing to his cheeks.

"It's fine as long as they don't touch me!" Sokka replied laughing, "I think they are just confused and it's just a stage."

Aang looked at Sokka with a sickening expression, "just because someone is gay doesn't change who they are, it's not a stage and it shouldn't change how you see them!"

Aang ran off into his room crying and slammed the door. At this point Sokka knew his secret and felt bad about what he had just said.

He knocked on Aangs door gently, "Aang, can you please open the door? I know know your secret and I don't care, it's ok."

Aang slowly opened the door with watery eyes, "you...you mean it?"

"Yes Aang I love you," Sokka replied, "I would never hate you because you like guys and I like girls."

As happy as Aang was to hear that, he was also sad to know he wouldn't have a chance with Sokka. Aang told him that he could never tell the girls until he was ready. Sokka told Aang that the girls would not hate him if he was gay, and that he had nothing to worry about. That night Aang asked Sokka to sleep in his room and Sokka kindly said no.

The next morning it seemed as if everyone was up early and full of life except for Aang.

"Aang is something wrong?" Katara stepped into his hot room, "it's a beautiful day you should be happy!"

"sorry katara, I'll cheer up I'm just tired," Aang replied.

Sokka was looking at him through the door frame when he approached him, "Aang can we talk?"

Aang smiled and said yes. They walked into Sokka's room

"Aang, you can't be down all the time it's not healthy," he could sense worrisome in Sokka's voice.

"I know! It's just, I'm kind of sad about you," Aang replied.

"Me? Why are you sad about me I'm healthy and happy!" Sokka had a grin spread across his face.

Aang looked up and couldn't help but smiling at the watertribe warrior. He was daydreaming about them holding hands like those two boys he saw.

As Aang faded back into reality, Sokka's voice became louder, "and that's why you can't be depressed all the time Aang," Sokka finished.

"Oh sorry Sokka, I was day dreaming," the timid boy replied, still dazed.

Sokka's jaw dropped as he realized he wasted 3 minutes of talking when he could be eating breakfast. Aang tried to cheer up in front of the girls so they would stop being suspicious of him.
