Chapter 2; All I Want for Christmas
The guardians love the idea of new things to do during their occasional breaks, and Jack might have just the thing.
Every once in a while, the four Guardians hang around at Santoff Claussen for a well-deserved rest that usually last about a day. Afterward, each of them have to get back to their job of collecting teeth, making toys, hiding Easter eggs or spreading sweet dreams to the children of the world. During one of these breaks however, the fifth guardian flew in through the window carrying an odd looking boom box.
"Jack what are you doing with that?" The Tooth Fairy (Tooth) asked.
"Since everyone was taking a break today, I thought it would be a good time to listen to some Christmas music. What do you say?" Jack held the boom box higher.
"I could use some music. It sounds like a good idea," North (Santa) said
"Oh, no. I'm not listening to annoying songs that those people sing," The Easter Bunny (Bunnymund or Bunny) crossed his arms over his chest.
"Oh you're just jealous that nobody thought to write a song for Easter," Jack said with a snicker on his face.
"That's not true! People write poems about me," Bunny retorted.
Jack smiled. "'Here comes Peter Cotton Tail, hopping down the bunny trail'-AH!" the young Guardian had to dodge the Kangaroo's flying boomerangs
Before Bunny could do anything else to the Winter Spirit, North got in between them, preventing the upcoming fight.
"Enough of that you two," he said.
"Jack why don't you go ahead and play the disk," Tooth said and The Sandman (Sandy) nodded with two thumbs up. Jack got the boom box ready and put the disk in. The first song that played was 'It's the Most Wonderful Time Of the Year'
"I love this song!" North tried to sing along but was quickly shushed by everyone else. When the song ended, an unfamiliar tune reached the five guardians' ears.
"What song is this?" Bunny asked. His question was answered when a little girl started singing, 'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth'. After the song, Tooth paused the CD and turned to North.
"You should have gotten her the teeth, North," she said with her arms crossed.
"Me? You collect them! Teeth are your job, not mine," North argued.
"But you deliver presents don't you?" Bunny put in.
"Not helping Bunny,"
"Hey, I'm just looking at the facts. You do deliver presents right?" Bunny asked.
"Yeah, TOYS! T-O-Y-S! I don't deliver teeth!"
"Maybe it's time you did." Sandy said with his dream sand.
Jack, however, was sitting back and enjoying the show. He knew that it was just a song, that it wasn't real. Heck he remembered watching the girl perform the song for the first time. She had had two front teeth already. He knew that it was all just for fun. But the guardians didn't. Jack never meant to start an argument between them. But he had no intention to stop it. He was having too much fun.
"Why don't you work together on this?" Jack suggested, not so helpfully.
"Great idea Jack," Tooth said in a thoughtful tone. "I'll go see if I can find any for this little girl. Do you have an idea who she is?" Tooth asked. Jack shook his head.
"Nope, not a clue," he said, which wasn't entirely true.
"It's ok. I'll just have to look a bit harder," she said then flew out the window. North sighed as he watched her leave. Sandy, noticing the time, went to do his job and spread good dreams.
"I'll go get the sack ready," he said in a defeated tone. He trudged off, mumbling something about having to work on a day off. When everyone was gone, Jack blurted out laughing.
"What's so funny Frostbite?" Bunny asked, his paws crossed over his furry chest.
"The song- it's not- real," Jack said in-between gulps of laughter.
"You're kidding! How do you know?" Bunny asked with wide, emerald eyes.
"Because I was there when she recorded it," Jack said when he could fully speak. "It was just for entertainment,"
"Well you're going to tell them, aren't you?" Bunny asked.
At that moment, Tooth flew back in through the window, carrying a few golden memory boxes and hurried off to where North was in a blur of blue, green and yellow.
Jack smiled. "What's the fun in that?"
