Ficlet #2: Irony

Summary: This was written awhile back as a challenge. I had to write a short HXA ficlet centering on the word irony.
If he went back in time to a year ago and told himself that he was in love with Helga, the past him would have never believed it. The Arnold from one year ago would have denied it and excused it as some form of extreme curiosity or caring.
A year ago he ran away from her touch on top of the FTI building and excused the erratic behavior that occurred as a heated moment. A mistake.
However, the Arnold of the here and now looked across the room. His gaze fell upon the blond girl who was conversing with several of their classmates. She was beautiful. He wondered why the Arnold from one year ago didn't see what he saw now.
Had the Arnold of the here and now been on top of that roof, he would have returned the feelings a hundred times over.
He laughed at the irony.
