As John ascended the stairs, pistol in hand, he was not angry, frightened, or sad, only determined. He loved his girls too much to sacrifice them to the 456, no matter what the Prime Minister told him.
In Lilly's room he found his wife and daughters. John smiled at them as he shut the door behind him.
Without saying a word, he produced the gun and fired three shots. There wasn't time for any of them to be surprised; it was over in seconds. His last thought before turning the weapon on himself was that his family was staying together.
