AN:Hey guys! Guess who's back, the lovely authoress of a very old piece of fiction with many ideas on how to make it better. Well, hopefully better anyway. I'm excited and hope that this chapter turns out even better.

Disclaimer:I own none of these characters and that's probably a good thing.

Begin

"Liliane! Run!"

"Momma… what… what's ha-happening?"

Lily watched horrified as her mother was killed in front of her. The figure in front of her was a male. Only the outline of him was visible, but she was still frozen with fear. Her mother's last words still running through her ears.

"Run!"

"Run!"

"Run!"

Yet, though the words still echoed, she could not bring herself to move. Her small body, that of a nine year old was frozen. She couldn't move. Why couldn't she move.

The figure at her smiled. A cruel, twisted smile rested on his face. He slowly approached the little girl, cowering at his mere presence.

The closer he came. The more she shook. But she couldn't move. the shock gripped her body fiercely. She couldn't break free from its hold. He came closer and closer.

"Run Liliane!"

"Run Dammit!"

The man laughed. It was the laugh of a man who had lost his mind.

"Run little Liliane. Run. I'll still catch you. You'll never get away."

And with those mocking words, he raised his knife, covered in the blood of her mother and sister, and struck.

"D-daddy! NOO!"

And with that, Lily's eyes snapped open. Her heart was racing. Gripping the blankets surrounding her, her eyes scanned the room looking for an immediate threat. The only thing grounding her was the pain in her ankle.

Determining her room void of any threats, her body sank into itself, and the tears started to fall. They wouldn't stop. She kept crying. Her body was shaking, and she couldn't stop herself from sobbing. Her family was gone. Torn apart from the inside. and there was nothing she could have done.

Why? She thought. Why did she have to be the one that survived? Why couldn't he have just killed her too?

The panic in her chest lasted for an hour. Her body wouldn't stop shaking, and she couldn't stop crying. Eventually, she was able to calm down. There was no way she was going to be able to sleep for the rest of the night. With a deep sigh, she got out of bed, and took a step forward. A sharp pain shot through her and she almost crumbled. She would need to get medical help for her ankle. Thinking about the new expense only added to the growing stress.

Shaking her head to try and clear the negative thoughts, she limped up the stairs and into the kitchen. Grabbing a cup. She filled it with water and put it into the microwave before reflecting over her new situation.

The akatsuki. The fricking akatsuki, villains of the Naruto universe were in her care. Hers! What mader her so special? Why was it her that fate decided to dump them into her care? And their leader, god he was such an asshole. A phantom sting across her cheek reminded her just how much of an asshole he was. She would have to get them clothes and feed them. They would need some ways to get out their restless energy. They would also need her to take care of them and make sure they didn't kill anyone.

The frown on her face grew deeper and deeper as she realized what she was truly just thrown into. The microwave beeping brought her out of her thoughts and she grabbed the cup, but some boiling water splashed against her hand.

She bit her lip and stomped her foot. The one with the damaged ankle. Tears started streaming down her face. Why was she so unlucky? The pain was unimaginable, but she didn't want to wake her new house "guests".

Biting her lip, she waited for the pain to disappear, and she put the tea bag into the cup to seap. A cough behind her alerted her to the very man she was starting to despise.

"Yes?" she asked in an annoyed tone.

" It is late. You should be asleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow. The rest of them still have to adjust and it'll be a process." Pein said.

"I'm aware, but nightmares have a habit of getting in the way."

If she believed this man was capable of caring, she would've believed that a brief look of concerned flashed through his face, but it was gone before she could read into it.

" I am… Sorry to hear that." He finally said, a look of pity briefly crossed his eyes.

" Don't be. You're not the actual cause of my nightmare, at least not tonight. "

"I'm not sure how I feel about that statement. Come." he said, his tone leaving no room for argument. She frowned but went to follow him anway. She let out a small hiss when applying pressure, but carried on as he didn't stop.

He walked out the side door to go into the back yard. She took her tea and sat on the deck. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His body relaxing, but still tense and ready to fight. They stayed like that for ages. Him with his eyes closed, and her sipping on her tea under the moonlight.

" I find that when I'm under stress, I find solace in being under the sky" he finally said, breaking the silence between them.

"I...I see. " she said, taking a new look at this man. Offering a bit of comfort. It was out of character, but she supposed a villain might always have his moments.

There was another long silence before she spoke.

"Thank you, Pein." he said nothing, his eyes opened and looked at her before going back to looking at the stars.

"I see that your ankle is still swollen and it causes you pain. I will have Konan look at it in the morning. You will not be useful if you cannot assist us in understanding the world around us."

"I see. You're only willing to expend an effort if I am useful. Is that correct?"

He nodded.

A frown crossed her face, but it was nothing she didn't already know.

" Pein?"

"Hm?"

"Why did you bring me out here?" she asked, a look of confusion clear on her face.

"I am...confused by you." He stated.

"How so?"

"You sacrificed yourself for two weaklings. For two people that wouldn't serve a purpose. You gave yourself up to us with such fierceness. And I have no doubt that we would have had to kill you should we harm them, because of your retaliation. Yet there was no fear when you did. Only sadness. I don't understand."

She ran her fingers through her hair and just let out a humorless laugh.

"Yeah, I guess I did. They are my family. I would die for them. I would do anything if it meant that they were safe. They are the only reason I haven't killed myself yet if I'm honest. I live for them. I would do anything to keep them safe, even if it meant throwing my life away." She said with a deep conviction.

The way she said those words reminded him of a couple of things. His confusion was taken care of, but his curiosity was not. What lead this woman to such conviction? What happened to her? And why did her eyes seem so sad?

"Do you fear us?"

"No. I learned to stop fearing death a long time ago."

Suddenly. He moved at a speed her mind couldn't comprehend, and a sharp edge was digging into her neck.

She stared at him defiantly.

He stared into her eye, looking for any glimpse of fear, but to his disappointment, he found none. She truly had nothing left to lose.

Digging the knife in a little deeper, he let out a growl, "I could kill you right now. I could kill you and go after those little friends of yours. I could erase your existence as it means nothing to a God."

At first, she didn't react until he mentioned her friends. Hatred and rage filled her eyes and her nose flared. They stayed like that. His kunai pressed threateningly against her throat, and her eyes lit with rage.

Without a word, he just huffed and put the kunai away. And all the strength she felt drained from her body. She slumped and was hit by a wave of exhaustion.

" You should rest. I have kept you here long enough. My point is clear. As soon as you cease being of use. You will be disposed of." But they both knew that it was an empty threat. He was far too curious about this woman and what she had been through.

"I hate to admit it, but you're right. Goodnight Pein. I will see you in the morning.

"Hm" he turned and entered the house, and she followed behind him, an empty cup of tea in hand.

Tomorrow was going to be a long. Long. Day. And she would need all the rest she could salvage.

And so, Lily was finally able to find the ability to rest with a certain orange haired leader on her mind.

Ta da! It's done. The next chapter will include….not telling! There's a little bonding between Lily and Pein. And hopefully they'll end up together at a reasonable pace. But I know Pein will have to be a bit ooc and I apologize for that. Thank you for reading and please review. Tell me what yall think!
