Previously:
Ezra smiled and handed Spencer her phone back. "You can't change your mind now... I told her we'll meet her at Jake's apartment... whoever that is." Ezra says, pulling Spencer up off the sofa and into his chest. He truly just wanted to see Aria again, but he wouldn't tell Spencer that, because he knew it would hurt her feelings. "So, I'll pick you up at 7:30, and then we can go to Jake's from there." Ezra says, kissing the top of Spencer's head, and letting go of her, turning towards the door.
"See you then." Spencer says, sitting back down on the sofa, and smiling as she watches Ezra leave the barn.
Now:
Spencer sighed, still smiling, and looked up at the ceiling.
"I hate to see him leave, but I love to watch him walk away." Spencer says to herself, out loud. She lets out a soft giggle and tries to comprehend everything that has happened to her since she Graduated high school. Toby cheated on her, with her own best friend, which led her to the sweet, genuine, loving, Ezra Fitz. Spencer never imagined that Aria would hurt her so badly, or ever want to hurt her that badly. Ezra and Aria were engaged for three months when Aria cheated on him with Toby, and yet Spencer still longs for Toby's soft caress, even after all of the pain and heartbreak he put her through. She now had sweet, kind, loving Ezra, but she still wanted to see him again. She needed to know if her true love had truly moved on.
Ezra laughed to himself as his and Aria's song played through his car radio. "B-26," He mumbled, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. The song was now no more than a painful memory of what used to be, and what might have been. He wanted to cry, and curse himself for being so naive. How could he be in a relationship with the insecure Aria Montgomery if she always jumped from boy to boy? He had thought it had all changed when he confessed his love to her, towards the end of her senior year, and proposed to her. They had been engaged for three months before she moved onto someone new. Just thinking of their relationship made Ezra want to pull over and sob. Why did he want to look into her beautiful Hazel eyes once more; to graze her jaw line with the pad of his thumb; to whisper sweet nothings into her ear as the sun came up; to place that small raven-colored curl behind her ear before placing a chaste kiss upon her soft, delicate lips; Why was he constantly thinking of Aria when he was so happy being with Spencer? The answer was simple: Ezra still loved Aria, no matter what had happened previously in their relationship. Ezra changed the radio station, too heart broken to continue listening to The Fray. The song that played next was Beam Me Up by P!NK. Ezra sang along, thinking of Spencer as he did so, his beautiful Tenor voice ringing through the car and out the open windows.
Could you beam me up?
Give me a minute, I don't know what I'd say in it.
I'd probably just stare, happy just to be there holding your face.
Beam me up, let me be lighter, I'm tired of being a fighter,
I think a minute's enough.
Just beam me up.
Ezra parked his car in front of his apartment complex. He looked at the time on his car dashboard; the clock read 7:00pm. This meant he had 10 minutes to get ready in order to be at Spencer's place 5 to 10 minutes early; It's like his father always said- Early is On Time, On Time is Late, and Late is Unacceptable. Ezra exited his car, locked his doors, and made his way into his apartment building. He quickly opened the door to the ever so familiar one room apartment, 3B, and hurried inside. He looked around the room and took a deep breath in, his eyes landing on a purse that sat on the kitchen counter.
"Babe?" He called out, tossing his keys on the counter next to the purse. "I told you I would pick you up at seven thirty, not for you to meet me here at seven." He continued walking towards his wardrobe.
"I'm sorry Ezra, I just couldn't be away from you any longer," an all too familiar voice mumbled from the bedside.
Spencer shuffled through her closet in the Hastings Barn. The barn was given to her as a gift when she graduated High School with Honors, as the Valedictorian, and got accepted to an Ivy League school- even after everything that had happened to her because of -A. She was proud of her accomplishments in school, and was happy that she could spend the rest of her college years with Ezra. Spencer found a simple black cocktail dress that she thought would please Ezra, and possibly Toby. Spencer sighed at the thought of seeing Toby again. As she looked around her room she thought about how he wanted nothing but to help her. She couldn't think of anything that would have made him go after Aria, other than the fact that she was Aria Montgomery. He had told spencer time and time again that he wanted nothing but to make her happy, and to help her with everything that she needed. Spencer leaned back on her bed and gazed at the ceiling, remembering exactly what had happened.
Exactly one week before graduation. Senior Year. Midnight. Spencer pulled up to Toby's apartment to find a familiar, tiny, car parked next to his truck. She stepped out of her car to hear words of love being uttered inside. 'He must be watching something.' She thought to herself, as she walked up the stairwell to his apartment above the brew. She knocked on the door when she reached the top of the stairs, but as she did so the door slowly opened. 'That's weird,' she thought, 'He doesn't normally leave his door open like that.'
Spencer walked towards the sofa to see clothing strewn across the couch, and open - empty- alcohol bottles laying on the floor and living room table. Spencer suddenly had a rush of regret and disgust. She threw her purse and other things on the floor and stomped over to the bedroom that she and Toby shared when she would stay the night. She pushed the door open to find a thin, naked, raven haired girl on top of her carpenter. Toby looked up in his drunken state to find Spencer standing at the door - disgusted, and in awe. He was about to say something as Spencer turned and stormed out of the room. As she was grabbing her things off of the floor, she heard a familiar voice coming from the bedroom.
"Toby, what's wrong?" she asked, cluelessly. "Are you okay?"
Aria Montgomery betrayed her. She was in "Spencer's" bedroom with the man that spencer had thought was the love of her life. Tears began to roll down Spencer's cheek as she ran out of the apartment and into her car. There was only one person up at this hour that she could go to. That person was Ezra Fitz.
Spencer hadn't seen Toby or Aria since that night, and she was planning on making them both jealous tonight - if she was able to get her boyfriend to play along with her plan.
Ezra just stood at the foot of his bed, shocked. Was she really there? Was the girl he had thought had been love of his life sitting on his bed, in front of him, or was he just hallucinating? He took a step forward and took a seat next to the small, raven haired girl, who had broke his heart not so long ago. He leaned towards her and brushed a small curl out of her face.
"Ezra..." She said, snapping him out of his daze. "I'm so sorry, about all of this. I just needed to see you again. I miss you, so much. My life isn't the same without you, and I need you back, babe." Those words repeated in Ezra's mind. They were the same ones that always had him crawling back; this time would be different. Ezra stood up from his seat next to Aria on the bed and slowly backed away.
"How the fuck did you get in here?" Was the first thing to come out of his mouth. "Aria, I changed the locks two weeks after we broke up. I didn't want you back in here, mucking up what I have, and here you are, so I'm going to ask you again. How the fuck did you get in here?" Ezra said, storming over to his dresser before pulling out a nice dress shirt and black slacks.
"I'm sorry Ezra," She said, running her hands through her raven hair before looking up at him with her forest green eyes. "You left your spare in the same spot you always do, and I just needed to-"
"I don't care what you needed, Aria. You threw me out like an old pair of gym sneakers. You moved on, and so have I. Get out of my apartment before I call Toby, or whomever you're playing with now, to come and get you. I don't want to see you around here again. Not after all the pain and heartbreak you've put me through." Ezra said, escorting her to the door. His ice blue eyes gleaming with a mixture of hate and regret.
"I'm sorry Ezra, you won't be seeing me around here anymore." Aria retorted, fighting tears in her eyes. She grabbed her things and hurried out the door.
Ezra looked around his apartment before walking over to his bathroom and preparing for the party he'd be heading to.
"Spencer, someone's here for you!" Melissa called from the front door of the barn.
"Coming!" Spencer replied. When Spencer appeared at the door Ezra couldn't help but look her up and down. Spencer's auburn hair was in loose curls and she wore a slimming, black, cocktail dress. She was wearing subtle jewelry, very little makeup, and black heels, which made her taller than Ezra.
"Jeez, you make me wish I was wearing stilts," Ezra said chuckling. Ezra was wearing a grey dress shirt, black slacks, and black dress shoes.
"I feel like we're a bit overdressed," Spencer said, taking Ezra's hand as they walked over to his car.
"If we are, we'll be the most well dressed couple there," Ezra said, smiling, as he opened the passenger door for Spencer.
