As always, she'd chosen Severus over him.

She hadn't even bothered to hear his side of the story.

She'd walked in half way through the duel and rushed to Snape's side.

She'd spewed horrible words at him.

And, suddenly he realized he was tired.

He was tired of listening to her wild accusations.

He was tired of her drawing conclusions before looking at the facts.

He was tired of chasing after her when it wasn't his fault.

Most of all, he was tired of having his heart broken.

He'd thought things were different now that they were friends.

He'd thought she'd started looking at him differently.

But the words that fell from her mouth told him otherwise.

He decided that he wasn't going to delude himself into believing she cared anymore.

He was going to get over her even if it took everything he had.

He was going to treat her just like he treated all the other girls he wasn't particularly close to.

So, when she came to apologize two days after the incident, he'd told her it was okay with a polite smile.

He'd even called her by her first name.
