Pokemon #001: Bulbasaur Planta Bufo

Type: Grass/ Poison

Common Battle Abilities: Overgrow and Chlorophyll

Average Height: 2'04"

Average Weight: 15.2 Lbs

Evolution: Bulbasaur-Ivysaur-Venusaur

Physical description: Distinguishable by large plant bulb on back. The bulb is, in fact, another organism, a plant by the name of Rana Rursus which has a symbiotic relationship with the Bulbasaur, absorbing sunlight to give energy to the Bulbasaur, and the Pokemon eats food to give energy to the plant. Neither organism can survive without the other, and it is unknown how the plant gets on its back. The reason Bulbasaur does not feel pain as the plant grows is that it has no nerve endings in the area that the plant grows. It is unknown how the symbiosis came to be. Bulbasaur has scaly, green skin (Hoennian desert subspecies has brown skin the color of sand), which, like a Sharpedo's, can cut you if you stroke it backwards. It is quadrupedal, and can stay bipedal for short amounts of time. The three claws on its feet are used to dig its most common food in the wild, Weedle ( see page 13 ).

Wild Moves: Using its powerful claws, it can use the move Dig and Tackle, and due to the plant, it can use Leech Seed, Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, and Seed Bomb. When there is a large amount of sunlight, excess of it is put into an organ specially made as a secret weapon. After charging, a Bulbasaur can launch an enormous blast of concentrated sunlight, much like a magnifying glass (but by far stronger) at an opponent.

Common Behavior: Extremely docile, enjoy being in large groups. They are very obedient, and almost always follow an order from a Trainer. Due to this, they are distributed at the Oak Laboratory in Pallet Town, Kanto, to be one of the starter Pokemon of the region, alongside Charmander and Squirtle (pages 4 and 7). They are often chosen as they grow very fast in strength, making challenges in the beginning of a journey easily surpassable.

Habitat: In Kanto, the most common place in which they are found, they most often live in Forests, and occasionally grasslands. A subspecies in Hoenn, named the Desert Bulbasaur, lives, as its name implies, in the great desert in the middle of Hoenn. The Pokemon League officially declared in 2003 that they were a protected species and trainer are prohibited from catching them, with Pokeballs in production since 2003 with an override for not catching them, due to their incredibly scarce numbers ( 367 individuals counted last year, 2011).

Notes: A young Bulbasaur without a bulb was brought to a lab to be saved, as, mentioned before on this page, they cannot survive without the bulb's energy. A machine that absorbed sunlight and pumped the exact energy that the Pokemon needs into its mouth was made. The specimen has cleared up many things, as it literally cannot use any grass type attacks. Apparently, they are all a product of the bulb, whereas with other grass type species they have a gland near the throat. The specimen is fine, currently an Ivysaur, and has learned an attack no other member of the Saur evolutionary line can use: Psychic. The reason is currently unknown.
