Status: Fifth day of school
So far I've survived the outbreak but there seems to be more and more infected ( a.k.a. excited first year students) everyday but I don't know how much long I can make it. It baffles me, how much they're excited with High School. Truly, this is a disease, the Plague.
Classes were finally over and Ryo was finally taking me to the basketball team's practice. He wanted to check things out, no let me rephrase that, he wanted to check the coach out before asking him. Though technically I could join them as their manager (and officially I don't think I had any other choice). Tricky was convincing the coach to let me play. Our previous coach listened to Akashi so he let me play, but here… Let's just say you can't compare Akashi's influence on people with Ryo's.
I crossed my arms in front of my chest when the blond opened one of the doors of the gym.
"Ayacchi, it's all good. Kasamatsu-senpai seems to be in a good mood today!" He grinned.
I frowned "Does it matter that much in what mood he's in?"
"Yes! You don't want to see him in a bad mood." He threw his arms in the air.
"He doesn't look that scary to me."
"That's because he gets really nervous talking to girls. He gets all Captain-like when there aren't any girls around."
"Really? I didn't really get a Captain vibe from him..."
"It's true! It's true!"
"Fine, fine. I get it, I get it. Let's go." I said.
"YAY!" He lifted me in the hair, clenching his arms tightly around my body (though I think he meant to hug me and not choke me).
"Can't…. breathe…." I managed to say.
"Sorry!" The blond put me down. "Let's go!"
Ryo pulled me, his grip tightly on my hand passing through the club members that much to my annoyance watched us. The coach too looked at us and somehow I managed to stifle a laugh at the ironic sight. Was a basketball coach supposed to be this fat?
"Kise, I don't care if she's your girlfriend, she has to watch from the stands like everyone else!" Coach Meatball said to Ryo without looking at me.
"I'm not his girlfriend." I said matter-of-factly.
"She still has to watch from the stands!" Again, he didn't even look at me.
"That's not it, Coach. Ayacchi's here to join!"
At last, he decided I deserved a second of his time "Oh she wants to be our manager? Why didn't you tell me sooner!? Hey Kasamatsu!" I followed his eyes to the cute blue-eyed boy.
"Yes, Coach?" The Captain came to us.
I waved my hand at him and smiled a little "Hi there, Captain!"
That was enough for the blue-eyed boy's cheeks to turn red. "Wha- what is she doing here?"
"This girl wants to be our manager." Ryo told Kasamatsu.
"Actually," Ryo began "that's not exactly it."
"I don't understand." Coach Meatball said.
"I want to play." I said.
"You can play in the girl's team." Coach scoffed.
"Yeah, but Kaijou's not known for its girl's team, is it?" I smirked.
"That doesn't matter, you can't play with us. You're a girl, it wouldn't be fair." What the hell, little Captain? And here I was foolishly thinking you were cute and so not prick.
"Oh yes, I completely agree. You wouldn't stand a chance." My smirk widened.
"Listen girl, you can't play with them and that's final. Now leave, I have a team to coach." He walked away.
"He's an asshole." I sneered.
"I'm sure I can convince him, Ayacchi. Have a little faith in me!" Ryo grabbed both my shoulders and shot me a very motivated look.
"Kise!" Kasamatsu shouted "You're not going to bother the coach anymore just because your girlfriend can't spend time away from you! You need to be focused in practice!"
I rolled my eyes.
"She's not my girlfriend." He said "Besides, Ayacchi really is a great player."
"I'm sure she is."
"Don't patronize me, little Captain!" I shouted so everyone could hear. Captain of the team or not, I wasn't going to let some boy think he's a better player than me just because I'm a girl.
Whispers broke out from the previously silent gym and Kasamatsu was glaring at me like a hunter looks at its prey just before striking it dead.
"You think you're so good because you're the Captain of Kaijou? Well guess what, Kaijou's not the best team out there and you're not the best of this team, Ryo is. He's not exactly Captain Material but I don't believe you to be either." I am a lioness, not some gazelle cowering in fear.
"I'm so sorry, Kasamatsu-senpai! Ayacchi's not in a good mood today." Ryo started laughing, trying to ease the tension but his words didn't seem to reach his Captain's ears.
"What is going on here?" The Coach came back and didn't sound pleased.
"You think you're better than me? Then prove it right now. You and me; one on one." The Captain said in a brash tone.
"Fine. Let's go." Kasamatsu started walking towards a court, people getting out of their Captain's way.
"Just wait a minute." The Coach grabbed my arm as I began to follow the blue-eyed boy onto the court. "You got a lot of nerve coming into my gym, disrespecting my team's Captain, don't you think? What's your name, your homeroom teacher is going to hear about this."
"My name is Kuroko Ayako. Now let me go." I snapped my arm free. Despite what he said, the coach didn't look like he was in a hurry to stop us.
As I passed Kaijou's team members, I realized they all had a lot of respect for their Captain from the look on their faces. But it look like it was more than that, it was more faith than anything else. Some couldn't hide their anger, but most of them were smirking and I believe they thought I was a foolish sheep walking into the wolf's den. Poor boys didn't know it was the exact opposite.
"Hey Kasamatsu," I said smirking "how 'bout we make a little bet? If I win, you'll convince your coach to let me play and you'll apologize to me."
"Okay but if I win you're going to apologize to me, to the coach and to the rest of the team."
"Deal."
"SHOW HER WHAT KAIJOU'S ALL ABOUT, CAPTAIN!" My eyes jumped to the loud-mouthed brown-haired guy with a throbbing vein on his forehead on the corner of the gym.
"Yes, please do show me what you're all about, Kasamatsu Yukio." I snickered.
He frowned and made a signal with his hands to a guy with a ball in his hands. He threw it with not enough strength, the ball bouncing towards my feet.
"If I can score ten points, I win and if after ten minutes I don't have ten points you win. How about that?" I kicked it towards him.
He picked up the ball and smirked at me "Sure, why not."
Kasamatsu started dribbling stepping backwards, away from me. The smirk hadn't left his face, he had absolute faith in his own strength and so did his teammates.
I took a deep breath and started loosening my necktie; then I proceeded to unbuttoning my jacket as I walked towards him in a slow pace, my dark eyes locked on his bright-blue ones. As I got closer and closer my heartbeat accelerated in excitement, ready to burst out of my chest. I grinned from ear to ear, rolling up my sleeves and tying my raven black hair up.
The Captain flushed avoiding eye contact with a slightly embarrassed expression on his face.
"Let's begin, shall we?"
"We've alrea—
I sprinted, baffling the Captain with my speed. Kasamatsu shifted to a more defensive position in response, keeping his body between me and the ball.
I stopped dead in my tracks seven feet away from him smiling slyly and before he had time to move, I dashed to the right putting my whole weight on my right foot. As expected, Kasamatsu tried to block my path to the ball but I shifted the weight to my left foot, rotating a hundred and eighty degrees and gracefully swept the ball away from his fingers. Then I jumped, making the shot.
Loud gasps and curses came from the sidelines. Gee, did I look that weak?
I ran for the ball and passed it to Kasamatsu "Eight to go." I reminded him.
The Captain of the Blue Elites simply shook the dumbfounded look off his face and caught the ball with one hand.
I'm so sorry for not updating, life has been shitty and messed up. PLEASE REVIEW!
