Ch. 1 pt. 2: Escaping goodbyes
Hey guys it's finally here and I'm so sorry for my absence to this story and to you guys. I want to make it up to you but I don't know what to do. I just hope you forgive me and more chapter will be here often and not a year later. Again sorry, and enjoy
During the trip I felt as if this would be the last time I would see this world again, but it won't be where I'm going to another planet that type of idea, but as in meeting new people and such. Anyways I might as well just enjoy my last minutes on Earth...while it lasts.
The package was in a military truck protected by four other armed trucks ready to attack anything that might jeopardize the had high technology on their side to make sure they are hidden from the enemy. Only twenty minutes remained until the ship takes off, now they were in a race to beat the time.
Time: 19:40 pm
Location: Colorado
Time of launch: 19 minutes 54 seconds and counting
Cody was sitting in the same truck with Alex; and he was one out of the other three friends that protected Alex. Luke and Brendon were the other two, Luke saved Alex's life during an air battle, he flew a cargo jet to provide the distraction for Alex to escape combat, Brendon was one of Alex's best drivers, he died with a plasma wound to his chest while crashing his truck to the enemies ahead of him. All that was left of the two soldiers was their dog tags stored in Alex's metal arm. Cody was the only one remaining and Alex wasn't going to lose another friend.
Cody was cautious about his surroundings, it seemed too easy, but he wasn't going to take any chances. He went to check on Alex he was out cold, probably tired from hearing explosives all night. As Alex slept he noticed that he was mumbling, he might have the same nightmare again. I should wake him up.
Dream memories:
"Did you see that?!" "I did. What about you guys?" "Only in the flesh, Luke can you believe this?" "We should go back, we don't want to get spotted."..."what is that truck doing?!" "LOOK OUT!" "GIVE ME THE WHEEL!" "*cough* anyone...h-help" Alex...Alex.
Reality:
Ugh was I dreaming again? Who was that voice? Oh it was just Cody, man honestly I wish that memory will go away. What is he saying?
"Hey get up Alex." Cody said shaking me awake. I sat up and rubbed my eyes with my good hand.
Cody spoke again. "You had the nightmare did you?" He put his hand on my shoulder. "Y-yeah I did. I can't help it."
"It'll be ok Alex, soon you'll be on a comet practically the first to be on one, and away from this nightmare , your really lucky ." Cody said trying to get me to think of something else, and it worked.
"I am...but honestly I wish I don't haft to be alone...up there" I sounded a bit depressed from that, man I feel different today.
"Well you won't be...you have Alice to keep you company" Cody mentioned, but I thought it was nonsense, although it was surprising. The experiment I tested out with her lead me to almost killing someone. Scientists wanted to see if adding additional metal plates to my body and maybe would provide more protection and maybe make me a robot arm similar to my right arm, but instead putting it on my left arm, but the left arm had a virus in it to where I had no control over my emotions and actions Alice stopped it before things got worse, sad part was though I blamed her for this and she never spoke to me again. Huh that A.I. I tell you she can be annoying at being right, but she is a great friend.
"How in hell did you get her back? Last I heard she was never going to see me again."
"I have my ways." Cody chuckled.
"Yeah sure the almighty captain grade 1 Cody has unknown sources from some fucking person that I never met." I mocked at his comment.
"And you never will" Cody finished, we both shared a laugh and soon it got quiet in the truck again, Cody broke the silence.
"So when you get unfrozen you plan on tinkering with your robot parts?" He asked in a curious way.
It took me a moment to think looking at my arm and my other parts I looked back up at him.
"Maybe, but who knows I meet someone when unfrozen and might not even pay attention to my metal."
It was silent again and I really hated it. Silence had to be the worst thing to hear, you'll never know what is going to happen. Soon Cody broke the silence again.
"Hey Alex?" Cody asked me kind of nervous now.
"Yes Cody?" I was looking at him confused. There was a pause until he spoke up again.
"...you don't-" Cody was interrupted by an explosion outside and in a flash I saw Charley's truck up in flames and fading away behind us.
"Charley's signal has gone dark!" The driver said as the heat signatures showed one of the markers gone.
"Where did the fire come from?!" Cody said in rage and kind of excited that the delivery was getting interesting.
"No rounds or explosive were used ...but it was a giant plasma explosion." The driver explained. I knew right then that it wasn't any terrorist or other soldiers, it was the only thing we have been fighting for a year. I was shocked that they managed to find us.
"Where are the intruders now?" I asked the driver doing all he can to find the enemies and keeping us safe.
"40 kilometers south east of us sir" the driver said now cautious on his surroundings. I opened the top of the truck where the turret was and saw about 20 alien ships heading right towards us. "Well son of a bi-" I couldn't finish, more shots were fired at us truck going left and right.
"Driver maintain formation!" I ordered the driver, soon he told all truck to maintain original formation and soon we moved in unison.
"All units fire at wheel. Knock their asses out the sky!" Cody ordered the 3 remaining trucks and soon enough marines climbed onto the turrets and started firing the ships behind them. About 3 of them were shot down, but we weren't going to last much longer. "Sir our ammunition is going dry, we can't hold out any longer!" A marine said over the radio. Cody grabs the mic and was about to tell all units to cease fire, until he had an idea, he dropped the mic and grabbed a case, unlocks it and sees a metal arm. The one Alex tested. He turned to see Alex firing his cannon at the ships, knocking most of the ships out of the sky, but more was showing up.
"This is bullshit, how did they ever find us in the first place?!" Fired more rapidly not caring if he is not using his visor.
Cody thought and thought it was worth a try. "Alex!" I turned around to see the arm I had before, I stopped and was shocked at what Cody brought. "You stupid or something?! Why the hell would you br-" I stopped and looked at Cody and saw why he brought it and pulled it out right now.
"... No-no Cody!" "Yes and you will!" "Cody I am not letting the same incident happen on this mission!" "I. AM ORDERING YOU!" "DONT YOU DARE TELL ME THAT SHIT! I CAN'T CONTROL IT!" "Alex!...listen we have no other choice. It's either you take the risk and control it, or we all stop firing and die. I don't like doing this kind of shit to you, but I'm trying to keep my friend safe!" Cody told me slightly calming down. I looked at the arm and at the enemies a few times, sighing in defeat I had to try.
"Alright Cody...let's get this over with." With no delay he handed me the arm and I slipped it onto my left arm. Holding back the pain of the needles going into my skin and piercing my muscles to give me full control and the arm locking itself on my arm, giving me full control of it, activating the armors battle phase my metal parts coving most of my body and my visor growing and connecting to my other ear. Everything was going fine, until the same thing was happening. My mind was screwing around with me, telling me I'm right in front of the enemy, I nearly lost it until Cody stabbed me with a needle to the neck and soon I was thinking like myself again.
"First off what the hell did you do? Second, thanks." "It's a stabilizer, the doctors gave it to me so that if you felt like...well you know. I stab you with this." "That hurt like hell!" "Your welcome." Cody smiled with pride. I sighed and went back to the top of the truck. Pulling down my visor all the enemies were locked on and I took fire on the first ship, knocking it out of the sky. I felt some edge to kill and soon enough one by one, ships were falling like flies. 5 minutes later all ships were gone and behind us was a graveyard of ships. I came back down and was about to take off the arm until we all saw the rocket. We were here.
"Let's go people time is wasting! We have a job to do!" Cody roared as alpha, bravo, charlie, and us climbed out of the trucks and into the launch sight. 10 minutes until launch we ran into a battle with aliens on one side and marines on the other side, and then there's us in the middle.
"I bet I could kill more enemies then you Cody." I said seeing Cody reloading his gun with fresh new ammo, all ready with a killing grin. "Oh believe me Alex, your not as experienced as I am when it comes to a contest." We both ran out to the enemies Cody shooting his rifle at the enemies, I coming in and taking the kill.
"Hey that's cheating!" Cody roared. "Alls fair in love and war." I roared back slashing and firing at more enemies. Cody just smiled at me not noticing a cloaked alien right behind him. I turned around to tell him I won, all that came was a scream in terror as I saw my friend off the ground with some sort of energy sword through his chest. I was shooting at the alien, but it removed its sword from Cody and disappeared. I ran over to Cody and tried to get him back to help, but he refused knowing he wouldn't make it.
"Come on Cody, I'm getting you to safety! Get up!" He wouldn't go but he ripped his dog tags off his neck and grabs my hand with them in hand. I looked at him in tears. "No...nononoNOO CODY! YOU CANT LEAVE ME! YOUR THE ONLY FRIEND I HAVE!" Cody managed a smile and spoke to me with a whispered. "...good...luck...my friend." He said as he closed his eyes his hand in mine fell to the floor, Cody was dead. I just stood there tears clouding my eyes as I opened my arms compartment full of other items and placed Cody's dog tags next to Brendon, and Luke's dog tags. Soon the sadness turned to anger, screaming to the heavens I wanted to get revenge and that alien wasn't getting away. Pulling my visors down turning them to the heat signature vision I saw it walking away, running my way towards him aliens firing at me, they weren't going to stop me, slashing my way past them, not caring if I need to shoot them. I ran towards the alien and it pulled out its sword as well. I kept slashing at him, but it kept blocking my attacks, soon I knocked its sword out of its hand and toke the opportunity to strike. I missed its chest but I managed to cut the side of its face. The creature screamed in agonizing pain as it kicked me away.
"Mark these words human. I shall seek vengeance on you." I was caught off guard at the alien speaking English, wanting to go after it, the marines ran to me saying time is running short, looking back at where I saw the alien, it was gone. I turned and walked to the rocket.
I saw 2 medics carrying Cody's body away, not showing any emotion, I was a few feet from the elevator until 2 sergeants stopped me and opened a case containing a chip.
"Sir your A.I. You'll need it with you to control your robotic arm sir, and other major qualities." One of the sergeants told me, I nodded and toke the chip. "Thank you sergeants, as you were." They saluted and I saluted back getting into the elevator and putting the chip in my visor, a little light purple blue figure floats in front of me forming a half naked girl. I already knew it was Alice..
"Well well...I see I'm back with you again." Alice giggled and sat on my shoulder. "Is it too late for an apology?" I said looking at the elevator doors. "Hmm...no and before you say I already accept your apology." Alice said with a shirt grin. I didn't respond, but just stood there in silence. "Umm am I missing something. Are you still pissed when I accidentally set your fighting ranks to-" "no...it's Cody...he's..." I couldn't finish I looked down trying to forget that horrific scene. "Oh...I'm sorry for your loss. Hey look on the bright side, you have me." Alice said floating in front of my face. I couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah I always wanted a chatter box." Alice showed no anger but giggled. "I'm the one with a tin can." "Right back at ya night light." We shared a short laugh, sometimes her company is amusing and I didn't care that much when calling me names, it's nice to be called something else instead of the package.
The doors opened and the rocket was right in front of us and explosions, gunfire went on below. I made my way to the door and got in, except my seat was modified for something special, I strapped myself in and I could hear the count down as the automatic door shut.
10...9...8...7 it continued I couldn't help but smile, I was going away from this war. 6...5...4 I was thinking how my family would be safe again, how everyone on earth will be safe. 3...2...1 my final thoughts before lift off was how my future will turn our when I return back to earth, there's so much that could happen. Shaking and speed was all I could feel as the rocket took to the sky. All the aliens tried to shoot me down, but I was beyond far from their firing range , even the ships couldn't get me.
All got quiet on the way to the comet, the ship broke apart passing the moon and a small fraction of the ship took me to the comet, we slowed down when approaching the giant fireball, the small ship released my pod and it blew up I lightly landed on the comet, it locked me on the side of the comet, and my pod begin to freeze as I slowly went to sleep. Soon Alice went into programming where she installed everything made by man was out into my head this was going to go on until I wake up. The last thing I saw before going into cryo sleep was the pod surrounding itself with a weird yellow Crystal, I thought after 85 or 90 years when I come back, life would be good again, or so I thought.
