Chapter two

Still don't own Devil Wears Prada, still not making money from this and the mistakes are still all mine.

As Miranda took a seat at her desk her new Second Assistant rushed through the outer office doors, Miranda had lost count how many new assistants she'd had since Andrea had left but there always seemed to be a new assistant lurking somewhere, seeing Miranda already sitting at her desk with a coffee in hand Mimi looked at her watch trying to work out if she was late.

"Emily" Miranda whispered.

Mimi ran inside still with her coat on with pencil and notebook in hand.

"Yes Miranda"

"Go to Valentino and collect the dresses for the shoot tomorrow, tell Nigel to be here at 8.30 this morning to go over the designs, then go and buy a copy of that book I saw advertised in the paper yesterday. That's all" with a wave of her hand Miranda dismissed the girl and turned to her monitor ready to start on her e-mails but as she looked at the screen all she could picture was those luscious brown eyes.

"Miranda pull yourself together" she chided herself.

Mimi looked behind her as she heard Miranda talk "was Miranda talking to herself?" Returning to her chair Mimi lifted the telephone receiver to tell Nigel he was late.

At 2 pm Miranda's day had passed as quickly as all the rest usually did. She was in the middle of a run through for the February issue.

"No, no, this just won't do, where are the clothes from Vivienne and why haven't we got the shoes from Valentino, really can no one see what's missing, are you all really so incompetent? Take this all away. You have one hour to come back with something useable. That's all." And with a flick of her wrist Miranda ended the meeting. As her staff scurried out Nigel lurked behind looking at Miranda with consideration.

"Is there a reason you're still in my office Nigel?" Miranda asked.

"Mm, you seem different, can't quite put my finger on it though." Nigel pouted.

"Well maybe you can manage to do some work whist you try and figure that nonsense out?" Miranda whispered.

Nigel new when to take a hint, especially from Miranda, and hurried out her office.

"Coat, purse" Miranda called out. She grabbed those items from Mimi without a look or a word and pushed through the outer office doors with force, disappearing out of view.

Mimi just stood there unable to explain to Harriet (Miranda's first assistant) exactly where Miranda had gone or how she had got there. "But she doesn't have an appointment booked for now" Harriet whined. Mimi threw her hands in the air and screeched out "I don't know!"

Miranda was pummelling across the pavement towards her town car, she had texted Roy on her way to the elevator and thank goodness he was there waiting for her. As Miranda approached the car Roy opened the door and Miranda gracefully slid in. After Roy got in the driver seat Miranda instructed him "Roy the Mirror offices, now".

Andy was sitting at her desk typing away, having finished typing up the interview with Rory Moncrieff and trying to make it into a respectable article, Andy was thrown a juicy bit of gossip to follow up on, some pop star had allegedly been caught in the arms of his assistants husband. Andy really hated these assignments, people's private lives where just that and she really wanted to do investigative journalism not this sleazy stuff! Andy giggled to herself when she remembered how Miranda reacted to her using the word stuff when talking about fashion.

"Something funny?" Andy heard those dulcet tones again as she watched a Starbucks takeaway cup placed carefully on her desk. Looking up there she was standing right next to her desk that same woman she had just been thinking about!

"Miranda! What are you doing here! I… I mean it's good to see you, but what I mean I …." Andy really was lost for words. Miranda smirked and took a sip from another cup she was holding and replied "can't one friend drop in on another to say hello?"

Andy looked at Miranda like a dear caught in the head lights and then shook her head before realising she was being rude "Miranda please, please sit down. Here I'll move those papers out the way for you" Andy reached behind Miranda and collected the papers she had piled on the chair next to her desk. Miranda calmly sat down and smiled one of her 'I'm very uncomfortable smiles'.

"Thank you for the drink" Andy blurted and then scooped up the cup and took a glug, the hot chocolate was delicious although Andy noticed there was no whipped cream or marshmallows in it.

Miranda commented "it's really not good for you to have too much fat and sugar in one day Andrea, we do have to look after you".

Andy smiled gently "yes your quite right, thank you Miranda".

With that Miranda nodded stood up "well I suspect I shall see you again" and with that put her coffee cup on Andy's desk and turned and walked out of the office. As soon as the doors of the office closed her co-workers erupted into rounds of applause and comments "hey Sachs, finally found yourself a friend Huh?" Another shouted "It had to be the Dragon!". As they laughed at her Andy just sat there not quite sure what had just happened and really not taking in or caring about the stupid comments her colleagues were coming out with.

Andy picked up Miranda's cup to throw it away when she saw Miranda's hand writing on the cup – A use my personal cell M – was Miranda asking Andy to call her? Andy surreptitiously put the cup in her bin making sure it was tucked safely inside her now empty cup to stop anyone else from seeing it. Taking a deep breath and controlling her face with great effort not to smile Andy dove back into her work deciding she would telephone Miranda that evening
