~ A NIGHT IN THE SHOW featuring Charles Chaplin ~

Chuckling quietly, Gideon watched the screen, a real smile adorning his usual serious features. Steps echoed in the hallway. Soon, Hotch poked his head around the corner, not yet seeing what is making the stoic man so happy. You're not teaching today?"

"This afternoon." Gideon replied, eyes still glued to the rolling images.

Seeing that his friend's attention was divided, Hotch turned, asking "What's this?"

"It's genius." Gideon chuckled, a boyish grin on his face.

Hotch lowered himself into a chair, eyes glued, like Gideon's, to the screen. "You have Chaplin on film?" He asked, surprised that Gideon owned a treasure.

"My great-granddad was an accountant at one of the first movie studios."

"He lived in California?"

"No, no, no. Chicago. Essanay Studios. Closed in 1920. Back then, you had four of five movies made in the U.S. They were all made in Chicago. They closed down and let my grandpa take… eh, a couple of extra prints home." Gideon said with a sideways smirk.

"They let him?" Hotch asked incredulously.

"Well, that's the family story. We're stickin' to it." Gideon replied with a chuckle." After a time of watching slipping and tripping, he whispered, almost reverently, "This guy's a genius.

"How come you haven't brought these in before?" Hotch jokingly accused.

"Showing it to my cadets today. I try to leave 'em with some kind of strategy for dealing with the stress the job brings."

"Like comedy." Hotch answered, respect glowing in his eyes.

"Greatest gift my granddad ever left me." Gideon said sincerely.

More footsteps are heard. "What's going on in here?" Morgan poked his head around the door, attracted to the sound of laughter from the two men who hardly ever laughed. "Oh, Mr. Chaplin. The funny guy. You know, if what I hear is true about that man, that right there was the original player." After a few minutes enjoying Chaplin's humor, Morgan said. "Ok guys, seriously, what's up with the rickety projector? They don't have this on DVD?" He said, showing his true age by asking about the more updated version

"Hey, some people like things run through the projector." Hotch defended with a small smile.

Morgan replied with a sly smirk. "I think I'm gonna let you two old-timers do you thing. I'm out."

"Hey, I got a couple little tramp reels if you have time." Gideon offered. Secretly, he enjoyed the company. He'd been alone for too long.

"I got a few minutes." Hotch raised his wrist to his face higher than normal, only just removing his gaze for a fraction of a second to see the face. Laughter continued to fill the usually somber office.
