A/N: Hey there, thanks for being patient. Not much to say here besides that this chapter gets right down to the action. Sooo enjoy!
Chapter 2
Duel Wielding
Chiro smirked as he dribbled the basketball, doing interesting moves and throwing it between his legs and spinning it on one finger. He laughed as he tried dribbling the orange ball backwards before doing a back flip and chucked it over his feet.
The ball spun around the rim of the goal and landed in. He smirked as he scored, "Damn I'm better at this then I thought." He retrieved the basketball again to do a few more combos he made up.
He paused as he looked at the empty court, "Well… a shame the team couldn't come." He paused, today was a very busy day for the monkey team. Chiro had completed all his lessons and chores for the day, so Antauri let him go out and enjoy himself.
Though he liked being alone, sometimes it was a drag. The sun was not even out, so today might not have been the best day to try and entertain himself alone. He shrugged, at least he was not doing any chores or lectures with Gibson. With that permanently welded to his brain, he went right back to scoring more goals with some more fancy combo moves.
After a few minutes of dribbling, he turned and tossed the ball over his head. But he miscalculated the speed of his throw and ended up missing the basket. He grunted in annoyance when the ball when bouncing off the court and into a ditch. "Oh great, missed that one by a long shot," he sighed as he turned to go retrieve the ball.
But right as he got to the edge of the basketball court, the orange ball was tossed at him. Catching it before it clocked him in the nose, he stared at the rubber sphere in confusion. Looking up, he looked out to the surrounding area, "Hello? Anyone there?" he called out.
But when he got no answer, he shrugged and turned back around. But before he could start dunking the ball, a voice caught him off guard.
"You have good moves kid," a deep, relaxed male voice spoke out.
Jumping in alarm, Chiro turned around, expecting one of the monkeys; but got a different surprised. There standing before him was a somewhat tall man; around 5'9 in height. He had tanned skin, combed raven black hair, and a slim build.
He had a kind of… suave appearance that was hard for someone not to stare at. But that was not what caught Chiro's eye. What he really noticed was those familiar ocean blue eyes, how radiant and deep they were.
The man ran his fingers across his smooth five-o'clock shadow with one neatly trimmed goatee at the center of his chin. "Have to say I haven't seen any moves like that, quit interesting…" he said smoothly.
Chiro blinked at the randomness, "Uh thanks. Um- did you throw the basketball back to me?"
He chewed at the tip of his E-cigarette, a cunning smile spreading across the beatnik's face. "Aye I did," he leaned against the wall, his black boots reflecting in the street lamps' light. "Was walking along till an orange circle bounced off my head. Overheard you mumbling, so figured I'd return it," he shrugged his slim shoulders. "Unless this was not your ball."
Chiro waved his hand, "No no this is my ball. I just thought you were-"
"Someone else?" he cut the youth off, "Yea I get that a lot. But no worries kiddo, not much gets to me anyways."
The awkwardness started to be replaced with interest. Something about the relaxed man gave Chiro an interesting vibe. This guy, which looked to be about in his mid-thirties, seemed pretty hip. Chiro smirked, "Well thanks for throwing it back, would you like to shoot some hoops?"
The man puffed out a small cloud of white smoke as he checked his watch, his arm was lined with black hair. "Well I have to be over at the Expo in a few to play a few beats with the jazz band," he pushed his sleeve back over his wrist. "But maybe next time," he winked as he straightened his body out to leave.
Chiro grinned stupidly, eyes wide, "Okay maybe see ya around mister-"
"Isomer," the man replied chill.
Chiro blinked, quit an interesting sounding name, "Okay, my name is Chiro. Well see ya around Isomer."
Isomer gave him a thumbs up as he turned and walked away. He left the court and disappeared across the sidewalk after moving to the other side of the street. Leaving nothing behind but the strong nicotine scented fumes lingering in the air.
Chiro coughed as he smirked, 'Huh that was random… but cool' he thought vaguely to himself as he spun the ball on his finger. He started to play for a little while longer till his communicator started beeping. Dropping his ball, Chiro slid his hand over it to listen.
"Chiro!" came Antauri's serious voice, "We have an attack on the city, giant flying creatures are orbiting Shuggazoom's air space. We need you here pronto!"
"I'm on my way Antauri! Mobilize the team, I will meet you at center square!" he shut off his . Then standing up, he rammed his fist into his chest. His body exploded in a colorful light as he entered his hyper mode.
~Down Town~
Nova furrowed her brow line as she went charging forward like a thunder storm. She bashed the bat like creature that tried to eat Otto before she stopped it. She got onto its back and wrapped her powerful arms around its neck. Then with all her might, she twisted its neck, listening as it relinquished a sickening 'CRACK!' sound. She smirked as she snapped its neck in two, feeling its body fall to the ground before she darted into the air, dodging another winged-bat's attack.
Otto screeched as he sprang to his feet, "Whirling Distructo Saws!" He hollered as he banged his green saws together and created a beam of energy.
The energy whiplashed from the ground and struck one of the creature's wings, severing its body from its left wing. He covered his eyes at the gruesome sight as the creature fell into rubble. He ducked from another attack, swiftly dodging each creature that took a dive for him. "Nova there is too many!"
Nova charged in full force and demolished five at one time by driving them into a nearby building. "We have to hold them off till Antauri, Gibson, and Sprx get the citizens to safety!"
Claws racked against Nova's back, sending her flying into Otto. Both simians went cartwheeling through the air and bounced off a parked hover car. They groaned in agony as Nova stood protectively in front of Otto, her fur standing on end as she bared her fangs.
As one bat dove down with teeth bared, a lightning bolt was fired at him. It screeched in agony as it crashed at Nova's feet, causing the gold monkey to look up in alarm. "What the hell-"
She was cut off by Chiro doing a few flips in the air and landing in front of the pair. "Sorry I am late, I was held up by traffic," he smirked at the relieved looks on his team mates face at his arrival. Then getting serious, he thrusted his fist into the air, "Let's send these thing back to hell, where they belong!"
"Right!" Nova said as all three charged in.
They bashed, dodged, and kicked every single one circling them. They moved together as a whole, putting Antauri's teachings to the test of 'moving as one'. Chiro punched one bat, then ducked as Otto leaped over back and sliced its ears. Then the green simian jumped out of the way as Nova came barreling down from overhead and bashed in its skull. Killing more and more in their tag team formation.
Ninety more bats fell from their group, but still the trio barely put a dent in the flocks' numbers. Chiro was getting tired as he landed back on the ground, "Where is the rest of the monkey team!?"
"I don't know!" Otto yelled as he kept one bat from swallowing him whole.
"They were supposed to be getting the people to safety!" Nova added as she bashed two bats together. Killing them instantly as she jumped back to safety. Then moving to assist her male companion before he was swallowed whole.
Chiro's gloves started to glow green, "Monkey Fu!" he yelled. Unleashing a huge green beam as he struck down six more. He gritted his teeth when more just showed up, soon blackening the skies with their massive numbers.
The trio smashed together as Chiro gulped. Then closing his eyes, he used the Power Primate to seek out their team.
As the mysterious energy carried his foresight through the streets, it brought him clear across the city before he spotted them. Sprx was doing his best with keeping the bats at bay as Gibson was tending to Antauri who had gotten both his arms chewed off. They were hiding in an abounded building as the giant bats crowded around their only exit. Sprx stood by the door and used his Magna Bolt Beam Splitter, shooting rapidly at them in order to protect Gibson and a wounded Antauri.
Snapping his eyes open, he looked to the green and gold simians at his side. "Guys they're in trouble! They need our help!"
Nova broke one bat's jaw and kicked another off to the side, "Well Chiro we aren't exactly looking so hot either!" She grunted as she shattered the teeth of another with her Knuckle Duster move. She looked back, "Chiro go to them! Otto and I will do our best here!"
Reluctantly nodding, Chiro turned and leaped away from the black-furry hoard swarming them. He jumped off one's back and dashed at another, using the beasts as leverage to assist in his escape. Once he fought his way through, he made a quick dash down the street. He breathed hard as he dodged more monsters diving at him.
He grunted as he felt claw marks scaring his face. He covered his right eye, feeling blood dripping between his fingers. But the image of a helpless Antauri made him run faster, he gritted his teeth as he used the power primate to speed up his sprint.
His whole body was engulfed in a green light. There he blasted off, using the speed of a hero to blaze by the bats. His heart started pumping as the buildings were nothing but blurs in his vision. He flew through the streets and soon got to his destination in seconds.
Panting, he fell to his knees once he reached the abounded building. Looking up with his one good eye, he could see the red energy of Sprx's magnets blazing out of the cracks of the building. Chiro heard the screeches of the bats.
Forcing what little strength he had left, he summoned the inner primate. He let out a devastating roar that shook the sky. He slammed his fist onto the ground, alerting the bats immediately. Licking their fangs, they lost interest in the three small monkeys and dove after the larger green primate thing. The scent Chiro's fresh blood sending them into a feeding frenzy.
Sprx blinked in shock when the bats scattered away from them. "Monkey hell, what was that all about?" he asked as he turned to look at his brothers.
Gibson managed to re-attach Antauri's right arm, "Sorry Antauri, but I can only fix your one arm. The rest will have to be done back at the robot," he dusted his hands clean as he scratched his chin.
Antauri grunted in pain, he looked up when he noticed their surrounding oddly quiet. "What is… going on? I no longer sense any danger…" he grumbled as he held onto Gibson who helped him sit up.
"Monkey Mind Scream!"
A blinding green light bounced around the window ceil as the team looked out. They all looked on shocked as a bleeding Chiro took on hundreds of the bats in his animal batter aura. He took down many with his monkey mind scream, but it still didn't stop the hundreds that plagued him.
"Chiro!" Antauri yelled as he proceeded to get out there and help. But a cobalt hand stopped him, forcing him to lay down.
"Antauri you will do more harm than good if you go out there!" Gibson scolded, "You are in no condition to fight!"
Before Antauri could react, he was sedated by Gibson. The blue simian sighed as the silver monkey was knocked out cold, "Wish I didn't have to do that…" He somberly spoke when he pulled the sedation shot out of Antauri's back.
Before Sprx could rush in to help Chiro, their human leader had ran off. Leading the bats away from them as he disappeared into the city.
Chiro dodged more attacks, jumping and sliding as he kept his inner primate form up to shield his body. He knocked six bats away with his giant green fist. As soon as he made it to the center of the city, his energy finally ran out. He collapsed as the inner primate faded from his trembling form.
Just as one bat surrounded him from above, it dove right at him. But before its claws could spear Chiro, a gunshot was fired from nearby. The bullet hit the beast's neck and made it fall on top of Chiro.
The boy grunted as he looked in alarm to see what was going on. As he attempted to push the heavy corpse off of him, a hand reached out and snatched his shoulder. He was roughly yanked away as three more bats hit the spot he was previously.
Looking up in fear, Isomer shushed him. "Don't worry kid," the man reassured him while holding a big rifle in his hand. "Just stay low and they should not see us…" he squeezed Chiro's bloody arm tensely.
Chiro grabbed his sleeve and slowly stood up, "Isomer we need to help the monkeys…! They could be hurt!" he argued while trying to leave. But another rough hand grabbed him and pulled him back, he met the stern stare of the older man.
"Chiro it'll be okay I am sure. But look at you, you need to go to the hospital!"
Before Chiro could argue, a bat swooped down and struck Isomer. It sent the saxophone player sprawling onto the ground in pain. He dropped his weapon as he slid into a nearby wall. Large teeth marks were punctured into his back, he bled severely.
"No!" Chiro yelled. Snarling in vicious anger, he leaped and grabbed the rifle. Cocking the barrel, he turned and began rapidly shooting the beasts.
They screeched in terror as the bullets downed multiple of their members. Turning, the flock finally had enough as they charged into the sky. Disappearing from sight, leaving nothing behind but devastation and an eerie silence.
Dropping the gun, Chiro fell to his knees and grabbed Isomer. His eye wide as his vision started to blur, he failed to detect the monkeys that sped towards him. All he could do was apply pressure to Isomer's wounds in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
