"Nope, nope, nope!" Jeff cried out. He wouldn't allow this to happen.
Nick shook his head, an amused smile playing at his lips. "Jeff, please. Don't put up a fight. You know you won't win."
Jeff was still trying to get out of the grip of his fiancé, trying to grab his hands and pull them off. When he realised it wasn't working he tried cowering, but Nick, who was still grinning through it, wasn't loosening up at all.
After a few failed attempts, Jeff didn't know what to do. All he could do was sob. He sobbed uncontrollably, angry tears streaming down his face, Nick then stopped grinning. It wasn't amusing anymore. Blaine, who had stood there stiffly watching, started biting his lip awkwardly.
"Jeff, I am sorry. I hate this too, but it is the best for you," Nick said, before he lifted Jeff's feet off the ground.
Blaine nodded and walked in front of the two, holding the doors open for Nick, whom was carrying a brandishing Jeff over his shoulder. Sure, Jeff knew that he would have no chance of winning, but he wouldn't go down without a fight. Luckily there was no one in the building as the dental students had just finished their finals.
"Please, put me down, please!" Jeff was screaming through the hallway. The corridor was long and the brownish painted walls, which were probably intended to be calming, were making his stomach turn. He hated light brown, it was the worst of all colors.
Nick chuckled. "Did you really think it was going to be that easy, silly? I thought this through, and again, you are wrong when you think you have the chance of not doing this today."
He felt his shoulder getting wet. Jeff was sniveling into his scrubs.
They reached the clinic. Nick knew this place well. He had talked to his professor the day before and after getting permission to do the first check up on Jeff, he had set his chair up for the event. Luckily, he had Blaine there. He had never had a patient quite like Jeff, but he had learned a good deal about patients who didn't like this place, and a second pair of hands could always be used.
He put Jeff down on the chair and Blaine came from behind to keep him in the seat if necessary, but Jeff was staying in the seat. This was good, it would give Nick the opportunity to talk to him first.
"Okay, baby. Will you stay in the seat? If so, I promise not to do anything, yet," Nick said, Jeff nodded.
"Perfect!" Nick burst out in relief. He didn't want this to get too traumatic for Jeff. He knew Jeff wouldn't be happy to be here, and he suspected he would try to find a way out if it, but he didn't know that Jeff was actually this phobic. "I would really appreciate talking to you first, and I am sure Blaine will leave us alone for it. Do you want to talk?"
Jeff took some time to think. Nick was okay with that, though he really hoped that Jeff would decide to talk first. It would give him an idea of what Jeff feared, give him tips on how to handle it.
"Kay..." Jeff said, his voice cracking. Jeff was sporting an expression that Nick had never seen on his face before; fear. Jeff was one of those people that showed quite a bit of emotion, but fear wasn't one of them. Nick couldn't even think of a single thing Jeff actually feared. Well, nothing apart from this.
"I'll wait outside, I'm listening to an audio book anyway," Blaine said, walking away from them. Jeff seemed happy, or at least a little more at ease.
"Okay, baby. Can you tell me what scares you? Why does it make you feel uncomfortable?" Nick asked, smiling. He wanted to make Jeff feel better, make sure he felt comfortable enough to talk.
Jeff seemed to be struggling with himself. As if there was something that was on the verge of coming out. "Just... I don't know... The smell is disgusting, you know?"
Nick knew that this wasn't the reason. The smell couldn't make Jeff avoid it here for this long. He sighed, hoping for Jeff to open up.
"Don't worry, baby. We got this; but you can't just avoid this because it makes you uncomfortable. It doesn't work like that."
Jeff nodded, which made Nick smile once again. "We won't make a big deal about it. It's just a cleaning, okay?" Jeff nodded again. "Great, I love you. I know this is hard, but I'll be gentle as always," Nick said taking Jeff's hand.
Nick got up, walked to the sink to wash his hands, and grabbed a pair of gloves after. When he turned around, Jeff was gone.
Nick took a deep breath, he wouldn't jump to conclusions and start to run around the clinic. Luckily he had thought of this as well and Blaine had looked to the door first thing. Jeff wouldn't get out that easily.
After a minute of hectically looking around he stumbled across an out of breath Blaine.
"This is going well, eh?" Blaine said, grinning. "He tried the doors, but he had no luck. You really do know him."
"I do..." Nick said. He sighed again. An agitated Jeff wasn't something you'd fool around with.
Blaine was still grinning, then he started whispering. "He ran there,"
He pointed to the left. Now Nick was smiling too. It was a one way, Jeff wouldn't be able to get out.
Nick lowered his voice too. "Okay, you go there and I take this way,"
Blaine nodded and both of them were now tiptoeing through the clinic. Jeff was hiding somewhere in between the tables.
Nick was having a look beneath everything and when he caught a glimpse of a green shoelace he laughed inwardly.
"There you are," He said calmly.
Jeff turned around instantly. He looked shocked, wasn't moving, but he started breathing rather quickly. This was harder than expected.
"Baby, please try calming down. It's okay, you're okay," Nick said, trying his best. He kneeled down and was now massaging Jeff's palm.
Jeff's breathing was still out of control. This needed to be stopped. Nick remembered the light blue gloves on his hand.
"Here, baby. Try breathing into it," He said, handing Jeff the glove.
Jeff took it willingly and tried obeying. It took a while and Jeff had turned even more pale than he looked before, but with some time, it helped.
Blaine had now joined them. He was sitting on the floor, petting Jeff's shoulder while the blond was still trying to relax a little.
After a few minutes, Jeff now didn't need to monitor his breathing, they got up. "Ready to do this?" Nick asked.
Jeff just shook his head.
"Well, you don't have a choice. I'll start with X-rays, those aren't too bad, I am not even looking into your mouth, okay?"
A few tears were escaping the corners of Jeff's eyes, but he nodded reluctantly. He had probably realized that this was only increasing his time in the building with that particularly unpleasant smell.
