Hi everyone! You're probably thinking "Wow! This fic is finally getting updated!". It's ok, I'm thinking the same thing. To be honest, after all this time of me not updating it, I didn't think I'd ever post another chapter for this fic. It wasn't until recently that I finally figured out what to do and how to keep things moving. With that being said, this probably won't have 40 chapters like Complicated and More than words. Or maybe it will! We shall see.
By the way, McKinley will be a regular high school in this story, instead of it becoming an arts school like it did in the finale.
I don't own Glee. The only characters I own are Cory, Cory's friends/girlfriend and her sister, Puck and Rachel's children, and any other random extra people that pop up.
Enjoy!
Rachel's worst nightmare was coming true.
The secret that she had been trying ever so desperately keep was starting make it's way through the shadows. The only people who knew that Finn was Cory's true father were Finn, Santana and practically every member from the first year of Glee club. Everyone except Noah and Quinn. If Quinn had found out her secret, she would have told Noah, who would have probably beat up Finn. That was still relevant, even now.
She didn't want anyone to know why she stayed with Noah. Everyone always wondered why, even people in Glee. It was something for her to know and for everyone else to never find out.
"Mom, are you alright? You seem distracted," Cory said while looking at his mom while she was driving.
"Yes honey, I'm alright," she patted his leg before pulling into the teacher parking lot of McKinley High. "Have a good day sweetie. I love you."
"You too," he appreciated the fact that his mom didn't embarrass him in front of the teachers and students. She waited until he was inside the building before she got out of the car and made her way towards the choir room. Whenever she walked in the room, memories rushed through her brain like a flood. Her favorite year was definitely sophomore year, despite the fact she was pregnant. For Regionals, her and Finn sang the first song of the New Direction's Journey medley, Faithfully. Even to this day, it was one of her favorite songs. When Rachel realized she was thinking about him, she wanted to physically slap herself.
"Don't think about Finn. You don't deserve him after the pain you've caused him," she spoke out loud. To distract herself, she grabbed a work sheet from her "September Lesson Plans" folder and headed to the copy room to make copies for all of her classes. She taught a freshman Choir, a mixed Choir for kids who didn't want the responsibilities of an actual singing group, and the New Directions. All of her classes were in the afternoon because one's voice is much easier to use in the afternoon than early in the morning.
When she got to the copy room, Rachel silently swore curse words when she saw there was no extra paper in the machine. "You think someone would fill this after school," she thought while she searched the entire room and couldn't find any.
"Looking for this, ma'am?" That voice. She knew who that voice belonged to. The brunette could recognize it a mile away. She turned around to see Finn Hudson staring at her with wide eyes, holding copy paper. "Rachel?"
"H-hi Finn," she stuttered. "It's been awhile."
"It has," he put the copy paper down and gave her a huge hug. She reciprocated and did the same.
"I didn't even know you returned to Lima until yesterday when Cory told me that you were his history teacher. What brought you back to town?" Rachel asked.
"I was teaching in Columbus but since the past World History teacher retired, I applied because of the pay and got the job. Plus it's nicer to be close to my mom and Burt," Finn explained. "And I was surprised to see Cory in my class. Parents aren't supposed to teach their children but I guess this is an exception, considered my name isn't on his birth certificate."
Those words stung. She looked at the ground in shame, "He seems to have turned out okay though, despite the fact Puck raised him. Maybe it was for the best that you stayed with him. I don't know why you did, but it was your choice I guess."
Just as Finn started walking away, Rachel stopped him. "Wait!"
"Huh?"
"Is there any way we can...I don't know...be friends? We were friends in high school despite everything, and I'd like to be friends now."
"I'd love to," he replied with his dashing half smile. Finn said he'd see her around before he left the room and continued his adventure down the hallway. She let out a sigh once he was gone.
Rachel would be lying to herself if she didn't say she loved Finn.
Was it even possible to love two men at the same time?
-found-again-
November 19th, 2009
A few days had past since Rachel and Finn babysat Mrs. Schuester's nephews. She couldn't get his reaction towards the sonogram out of her head. Finn was just so...touched by a simple image on a screen. Then again, the heart beat was the most comforting sound she had ever heard in her life. Should she just break up with Noah to be with Finn; the true father? Or should she stay with Noah only because she felt like no one else would love her and care for her?
Yet she knew Finn loved her.
Sometimes it would be easier if she could flip a coin to decide on what to do.
What if she did? She opened her locker, trying to find her Algebra and French book while thinking about the thought. Whoever she saw first, they would be the person she'd reject or break up with.
Deep down, Rachel knew who she wanted to see first. Before she shut her locker, someone approached it from behind the door. Well, that was quick.
Whoever was behind that locker would decide her fate.
Rachel slammed the door and saw the tall quarterback, Finn Hudson."Oh no..." she thought.
"Hey Rach. So, I was thinking about something and -"
"Please stop right there Finn. We have to talk about something."
"A-are you alright? Is something wrong with the baby?" This was going to be harder than Rachel thought.
"No, the baby is fine. I just think you need to keep your distance away from me is all. Noah told me recently that I need to keep my distance from some people. Which means...you Finn. He's noticed that we've been talking more."
"A couple weeks ago Puck told me to back off a bit," Rachel's shot in the dark ending up helping her. "But I still wanted to talk to you because that's our baby in your body. Unless you told me to back off, I wouldn't stop talking to you. If you don't want to be in a relationship with me, that's fine. Only on three conditions. One; if Puck ever does something stupid, which he probably will, leave him. Two; keep me involved when it comes to the baby. Three; I know I'm asking a lot, but this is the one thing I care about the most. Keep the baby. Not just for me, but for yourself. At least think about it. See you in glee club, Rach."
And when he turned around and walked away, she could help but feel tears come down her face. What did she just do?
Cory was making his way to his next class when he saw his mom walking through the hall as well. They both exchanged waves and carried on their merry way. He noticed that she seemed much more happier than she was that morning. Come to think, she had seemed a little off since he mentioned that Mr. Hudson was mentioned the day before. Yesterday, he started wondering if something had happened between the two of them. Did he hurt her? Did they date? This was such a mystery that was going to bug him for a long time until it was solved. Cory had always been into solving mysteries ever since he was little. As of recently, he had been thinking about becoming a detective.
"I gotta figure out what's going on," he thought to himself. He had to figure out what had gone on, even if what happened hurts him in the process.
Well, I decided to throw a flashback into this story just because. I've decided that I'll to do a couple of them throughout the story.
Do you think Rachel and Finn becoming friends again might turn into something more? And how soon do you think Cory will find out the truth? Comment in your review what you think!
Coming up in chapter 3: Cory starts investigating, and Rachel decides to invite Finn over for dinner with her, Puck, and the kids. How will he react to the life they have created for themselves?
