Hey guys, just a random oneshot I thought about, during Percy's birthday. I know, I know, isn't it a little too late to write a chapter based on Percy's birthday? Meh. I do know that, but I just had this teensy tiny plot bunny that just wouldn't leave me alone. Sheesh.
ANYway, this is a not a oneshot completely based off the Canon. Reason being one, there is an OC. Name being Andrea. (To er... the particular person who knows about her character profile and my current dilemma, I really hope that this will give you a clearer perspective of her. I hope.) Second reason being the unknown timeline in this story. I have no idea where to place this really, mainly because Nico is OOC (to me at least), Shadow-travelling exists, and the opening line of this oneshot is the one during BoTL on Percy's birthday. So just ignore all the technicalities and just start reading, yeah?
Yeah, okay.
And last but not least, I do not own any of the characters except my OC Andrea, because if I did, I would not be on this site. Probably.
I was just getting ready to blow out the candles when the doorbell rang. My mom frowned. "Who could that be?" There was something off in her tone though, which sounded almost… excited?
It was weird, because our new building had a doorman, but he hadn't called up or anything. I shrugged and opened the door. I think my eyes must have widened to the size of saucers or something, because when I finally snapped back into reality, Andrea was waving her hand in front of my face.
"Hello? Earth to Percy, do you copy?" she called.
"Yeah, yes I am. What are you doing here?" I asked, scratching the back of my head. "I didn't know I invited anyone."
"We technically invited ourselves," a voice said right next to my ear.
I jumped while Andrea bonked the head of the sudden arrival. "Nico?! What did I tell you? It's Percy's birthday! You didn't have to scare him like that, ya know? Anyways, Percy, we had prior permission from your mum. She gave us the go ahead, now let's go!"
I tried to protest, but I found myself in a vice-like grip as Nico grabbed me by the arm. For a skinny boy, he sure was strong. Andrea on the other hand had taken the cake in one hand and hooked her other arm through my mum's. They linked hands - I have no idea how Andrea managed it - before shouting.
"One… Two… Brace yourselves!"
The sensation of having my face being contorted to great proportions greeted me and I shut my eyes tightly. Seconds later, the rushing stopped and I opened my eyes.
Only to fall flat on my butt when I realised where I was. "Annabeth? Rachel? Why am I at Camp?"
"Hey Percy," Annabeth greeted and gave me a hug, pulling me up. Beside me, Andrea looked at the blue cake and pouted. "After all I did to protect us from the face erasing… and the cake gets dented."
"It can still be eaten, can't it?" Nico mumbled, giving his eyes a slight roll. "Wait up," I cut in, pointing to my mum who was looking at all the blue decoration in the easily recognisable room that was my Cabin. "How is my mum allowed to be here?"
"Oh, Andrea got permission from Chiron, Mr D. and Zeus," Rachel explained dismissively. "I helped."
"We wanted to help you celebrate your birthday in Camp," my mother explained, pulling me into a hug, "I know how much it means to you." I sputtered, trying to break free but the others just laughed. So did Annabeth, who took out a camera and snapped a picture of me. "Hey!"
"They only allowed this to be a private affair though, so the others don't know about it." Annabeth gave me a small apologetic smile. I felt a smile creep onto my lips. "I'm fine with it." Bad mistake, Percy, bad mistake.I I could feel my face heating up as I heard wolf-whistles from Rachel.
Can we cut the cake now?" Nico asked impatiently, holding up a knife. I grinned. "Let's do it!"
They started singing the birthday song again, although Annabeth changed the lyrics a little so that it said "Happy birthday to Seaweed Brain" instead of you-know-what and earned a glare from me, even though I couldn't bring myself to do so. In fact, I was pretty sure that my face looked a little like a grimace because of the two different emotions my face was expressing.
"Like you're constipated," Andrea suggested helpfully from beside me as she took a large forkful of blue cake. "Shut up," I muttered, shooting her a glare.
"I'm glad to help," the dark haired demigod only smiled while Annabeth, Rachel and the others stifled laughs in the background. Nico remained stoic, although I could see that the corners of his mouth were slightly upturned.
My mum must have purposely ordered a large cake to cater to the needs of those two, I shuddered from my position on the bunk bed as I saw Andrea take another piece of cake. She cut a large portion from it and placed it on Nico's plate, who speared it reluctantly and yet, for some mysterious reason, still managed to finish it up in record time.
How do they manage to eat so much yet still remain so thin…?
Rachel was playing snakes and ladders with, well, herself while my mother was moving around, taking pictures of everyone.
"Your turn, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth brought me back into reality. I glanced down and sighed. Chess was really not my thing. "Uh… Knight to C3?" I said and moved the piece.
"Checkmate. Let's try again, shall we?"
I fell back into the bed. "You should have asked Andrea to play, I'm hopeless at it."
"That's what practice is for darling, do listen to the only wise person in the room." the person in question replied. Annabeth rolled her eyes at the comment, although she didn't say anything. Probably because of the compliment directed at her. Unfair.
"It's Rook to B7 Perce, not A7," Andrea muttered, correcting the position of the pawn.
"It's much easier to capture that pawn first."
"No, use the Bishop instead."
Andrea threw in random comments, improving my playing. But even then, I lost, as always. "Eh, there's always next time, right? Besides, we're supposed to go now."
"What?" I asked, confused as to where this was going. But I had a feeling I wouldn't like it… Or not? "Yeah, we're taking you to the Marine Life Park now." Andrea smirked exchanging a look with Nico, who was lounging on the top bunk. "By shadow-travelling."
"Erm…. Yay?"
Very abrupt ending, I know, but I was getting reeeally tired. I don't even have the time to update my other stories... I'll be back after October though, I promise. XD.
Leave a review? I dunno if I should continue this story. Rephrase: What godly parent should Andrea have? Hmm?
Review!
