Chapter 2: Old and New Faces
During their whole 20 minute walk to Logan's, well Scott's, motorcycle, Laura hasn't utter a sound. Based on her body language, Logan could tell that either his presence or whatever that's bothering her was making her tense. He had given her one of his spare jeans he kept in his black travel bag. Even thought they were slightly big around Laura's waist, the girl didn't complain about it.
Logan didn't know what to do or say. He isn't the guy anyone would talk about their feelings to with the exception of Rouge. Logan signs deeply while scratching his gruffly beard. In the corner of his eye, Laura was pulling something out of her shirt.
"What's that?" Logan asks.
"A picture." Laura whispers.
"Of who?"
"I don't know who she is." Laura said. "I just know I always had this picture."
Logan was puzzled. "Can I see?"
Laura shrugs. "I guess so."
She hands him the picture. In the picture, a young woman with long wavy brown hair was smiling into the camera. As look stares into her brown eyes, he felt something warm and happy mixed with a heartache. As he close his eyes, there she was. Sudden flashbacks of her laughing and smiling with….Logan. He could actually feel her lips against his, smell her…
"He was the Wolverine."
He snaps his eyes back open and quickly hands Laura the picture. He turns to Laura and holds onto her shoulders.
"Where did you get this picture from?" Logan demands frantically.
"Honestly I can't remember." Laura said. Then her eyes widen. "You know who she is?"
Logan couldn't find the answer. He really didn't know who the hell this woman was and yet here he was having a flashback of her. This was good, right? Maybe she was a part of his forgotten past. Maybe the Professor knows who she could be.
Logan gets on the motorcycle and powers it up. He hands Laura a helemt. She looks at it curiously.
Logan shakes it head. "It's for your head, kid!" He points to his head. "It protects your head in case of an accident!"
Laura looks at him puzzled. "Why don't you have one on?"
"I can handle it." Logan said. "Come on!"
Laura puts on the helmet. She sits behind Logan and tightly wraps her arms around his waist as he took on the bike, going like 200 miles per hour.
It took hours and hours before Logan was back at Xavier's Institute School of the Gifted Youngsters. The only place in the world that was safe for mutants alike. Logan slowly pulls up into the garage parks the bike and turns off the engine. Laura had her face buried in his back and arms wrapped tightly around him.
"Kid, we're here." Logan said. "so you can let go now."
Laura lifts her head up and examines her surroundings. She saw more motorcycles with a few cars. She gets off the bike and stares at Logan.
"What?" Logan asks rudely.
"What is the place?"
"The only place in the world where it's safe for our kind." Logan said. "Now come on."
As they walk back outside, Laura looks over to the basketball court where a few boys was playing a game of basketball.
"Hey, no powers!" A boy complain as one of them was teleporting in different places of the court before making his victory with a slam duke.
Laura looks over to the pond and saw a girl running on water.
"Wow." Laura gasps.
"Yeah, it's like a circus." Logan grunts.
When Laura and Logan got to the main entrance front doors, they was soon greeted about a young brunette girl with a white streak in her hair. She goes up to Logan and hugs him.
"Logan!" The girl said with a happy expression.
"Ya missed me kid?" Logan asks.
The girl lets go and hesitates before answering. "No, not really." She said playfully.
"Hmm. How you doing?"
"Okay." She replies. "You?"
Logan shrugs. "Brought someone new. Laura this is Rogue. Rogue this is Laura."
Rogue smiles at Laura. Laura returns with a small smile. Laura moves closer to Logan. Rogue looked as if she done something wrong.
"Ah sorry…" Rogue apologizes. "Ah didn't mean…"
Logan raises his hand to silence her. "Kid, it's not your fault, she's just shy."
"Oh…" Rogue mutters. She turns around and a smile came upon her face. "Hey Bobby!"
A young teenage boy walks up to the three. He was about two inches taller than Rogue and Laura, his hair was brown and short, his eyes was blue and had a warm smile.
"This is Bobby Drake," Rogue introduces. "he's…."
"I'm her boyfriend." Bobby finishes, shaking Logan's hand. "Call me Iceman."
Laura watches as his hand begins to freeze up a little. Logan takes his hand away.
"Right." He said monotone. "Boyfriend huh? So how do you guys…?"
Rogue and Bobby looks at each, unsure just to how to answer his question. It was Bobby who spoke.
"We're still working on it." Bobby said.
"Ah." Logan said.
"Look who decided to come back." A older white haired dark skinned woman said, walking down the stairs . "And just in time."
"Storm."
"Logan." Storm said. "Welcome home." She look over to Laura then back to Logan. "Whose this?"
"I found her at Alkali Lake." Logan said. "Her name is Laura and she's like me."
Storm's expression became serious. "She has them?"
Logan nods.
"We'll see you later, Logan." Rogue said, leaving with Bobby.
"Have Jean look at her." Storm told him. "And I hope you're leaving because we need a babysitter."
Logan was confused. "Babysitter?"
"Hi Logan,"
Logan looks up and sees Jean Grey slowly walking down the stairs. "Hi Jean."
"Jean!" Someone calls out. Logan turns around to see another woman running to the edge of the stair. She was pretty young, maybe 25 years old, her skin was a peachy, hair dark auburn and wavy, with oval face and hazel eyes.
She turns around and looks at Logan and Laura. "Hello."
"Hi and you are?" Logan asks.
"Logan, this is Charlie Conner," Jean introduces. "Charlie this is-"
"Logan." Charlie said. "Or Wolverine. I heard a lot of things about you."
Logan raises a eyebrow and looks at Jean and Storm like they have done something wrong. "You been talking about me while I was gone?"
"Well, from Scott Summers," Charlie said. "and there was nothing good from his side. But I won't give you any crap for it."
"Good old Scotty." Logan sarcastically.
"Charlie is our Art/Yoga instructor." Jean said. "And she has pyrokinesis."
"And what the hell is that." Logan demands.
"The ability to create fire with your mind." Charlie said.
"Well, I'm going to power up the jet." Storm said walking away.
Jean looks at Laura. "Hello."
"Hi." Laura whispers.
"What's your name?" Jean asks.
"Laura." Logan answers. "Found the kid in Akai Lake. She's-"
"Like you." Jean finishes. "I can't really do it now. Me and Storm are going to head up to Boston to find the mutant that attacked the president."
Logan nods. "So it was a mutant." He gestures towards Charlie. "She going to?"
"No." Charlie said. "I going to help you baby-sit."
