"So where was I? Oh yeah...I gave a little back story to the start of my fabulous adventure. (Shut up, Nico) Anyway, like I said, before Nico showed up, I lived the life of a normal, teenage blood of the Pharaoh. I trained on weekends and afternoons, after school. Oh, the school we go to is pretty awesome. Its called Brooklyn Academy for the Gifted. But, everyone calls it BAG. Oh your should hear the jokes...oh, yeah, off topic. Anyway, along with training, i had some awesome new friends. Julian, Jaz, Felix, and little Shelby...boy she's a handful...this one time...oops...off topic again. But one of my best friends was Freak. I know what your thinking. Wow Natalie, is that a cool nickname for a guy or something? No. Freak is Carter's pet psychotic Griffyn. But besides the threat of him getting mad and tearing me to shreds, he was pretty cool. (Awww Nico are you getting jealous...OWW, NICO)

Sorry about that...Nico hit me with a shoe. I will never look at shoes the same again. Anyway, i should probably explain who Nico is, shouldn't I. I might as well start with how we met. (No Nico, i'm telling it. I know your gonna lie.)

It was a dark and stormy night... actually it was a fairly warm evening during the summer. I sat on my bed looking out of the sliding door that leads to my terrace. I rubbed my eyes and looked again, sure i was getting tired. I thought I had seen a flying horse. But, at the time, that was ridiculous. see, i could believe in magic, Egyptian gods, and monsters, but not flying horses. that was where I drew the line. But, just in case, i went to go tell Carter and Sadie.

Carter and Sadie are pretty cool. They teach magic, run a Nome, and have to worry about attacks from the rebel magicians. I wasn't there when they attacked, when Ra returned, but I heard it was awesome...well awesome in the fact no one died. I always miss all the fun. Anyway, they were cleaning up from the last class, whatever works...or as Carter calls it, Magical Problem Solving 101. Bits of broken Shabiti littered the floor, along with bits of wood from staffs, wands, and the bleachers. My fault. I got kinda excited during the class. You don't want to know the details. Anyway, when I walked up, Sadie smiled.

"Hey Nat," she said.

She knew I hated it when she called me Nat. (probably should have said that in front of Nico. Gods he's annoying.) I smiled back, but It probably came out looking like a wince. "Hey Sadie...look i'm really sorry about earlier. Again." Sadie waved her hand like It was no big deal. "It's OK ..this sort of thing Is easy to fix. Besides were used to...," her voice faltered, but i knew what she was going to say. This kind of stuff happened a lot when I was around.

"Anyway," I said quickly, desperate to change the subject. "I came to report something." Instantly, i could see the changes. Carter, who was silent, suddenly straightened. "What is it Natalie?" he asked, giving me his full attention. I took a deep breath. "Now...don't think I'm mad, but...i think i saw a flying horse flying around." Sadie and Carter exchanged looks. Sadie put her hand on my shoulder. "Nat," she said like she chose every word carefully."Are you sure? It's getting late. maybe you were just tired. I mean...you could have just been seeing things." I shook my head. "I know what I saw," I replied, more confidently this time."It was big, like a horse, and it had wings." Carter just looked at me like I was a child that had said some silly thing. But I was not a silly child. I was almost 13 years old, practically an adult. (Stop laughing Nico!) When both their looks didn't change, i pulled back and looked at them coldly. "I see you're not going to believe me. Fine. But I know what I saw." I turned on my heel, marched into my room, and locked the door. I then proceeded to flop on my bed and sniff like a little girl. (what? I'm sensitive!)

I don't know when, or how I fell asleep, but all I remember is waking up to the sound of screeching. At first, i recognized it. It was Freak. He often came to my terrace to sleep. Yep, Best friends forever. Usually, he stops after a couple minutes, but this time, it went on for five. Then ten. Then, when I about to tell him to shut up. (I'm such a nice person) I heard a yell. A very human yell. I then jumped up out of my bed and rushed outside. There, trying to attack Freak, is a boy who looks around my age, maybe a little older. He had black hair and brown eyes. He wore an aviator jacket and held in his hand a pure black sword. When I got my voice back I yelled. "What in the world are you doing!"

This caught him off guard. He looked at me for a second, registering my sudden entrance and then yelled, "Get back! This is a dangerous monster!" I had no idea what he was talking about. I grabbed my staff and stood in front of Freak."He isn't a monster," is what I said, but I thought "oh great a psycho with a sword." (What? I shall not tell lies.) The boy looked at me like i was the crazy one. The nerve. He looked at me and said, somewhat gentler, "Listen, i don't know what you see, but this thing isn't human. It's a monster called a gryffin it's going to kill you if I don't stop it." He held his sword high, poised to attack. I ran strategies through my head like wildfire. I was never good at close magical combat. Heck, i'm not good at magical combat at all. If I tried, there was a chance I could blow up Brooklyn house and...well all of Brooklyn. So I did the first thing i thought of. I beaned him on the head with my staff./p
