Dear Lily,
How's Hogwarts suiting you? We've only just been here for a few weeks, and it's already not as great as I would've hoped.
To begin with, we weren't sorted into the same house. You were made a Gryffindor and I became a Slytherin. You even met a new friend in your house; his name is James Potter.
To make things worse, he's everything that, apparently, I'm not. He's brilliant, he's charming, and he's funny, just to name a few. I haven't formally met him just yet, but I can already tell that I'll hate him, and if I'm correct, the feeling will definitely be reciprocated.
Even so, I can see that the two of you are going to be great friends.
But, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You're a wonderful person, and you always will be. So, that being said, even if you do have a new friend, and even if he is a better one than I'll ever be, I'm going to make sure that we stay friends, no matter what it takes. I won't let him replace me as your best friend, and I know that you won't either.
