SEVEN YEARS LATER:
"You have learned well Naruto," Sasori said from inside Hiruko wearing his black cloak with red clouds.
"Thank you Sensei," Naruto had replied inside his puppet Turtle, also wearing a matching cloak.
Flashback:
Naruto and Sasori had just finished one of their training sessions and were on their way back to their hideout when they were stopped by a woman floating in the air wear a black cloak with red clouds and wings made of paper.
"Sasori of the Red Sands and Naruto of the Silent Forest," the woman chimed out," I am Konan and I come offering you both the chance to join our organization, the Akatsuki. We are a group of S-Ranked ninja seeking to bring peace to the world of ninja."
"What's in it for us," Sasori asked.
"You will be given missions of great value since we work for hire right now to obtain funds, but our primary goal is to capture all the Biju."
"I guess that will work," Sasori said," you in Naruto?"
"Yes Sensei."
Present:
"A good deal we struck back then," Naruto said," we have been able to collect many valuable people to turn into puppets. My favorite is probably that crystal user our old team member Orochimaru."
"Indeed what a find," Sasori agreed.
Their rings started to flash signaling it was time for a meeting. The two puppeteers walked into the forest and sent chakra into their rings. They found themselves within a cave surrounded by the other members of the Akatsuki; Deidara, Hidan, Itachi, Kakuzu, Zestu, Kisame, Konan, and finally their leader Nagato.
"You summoned me just as I was about to give a sacrifice to Jashin," Hidan burst out," it better be fucking worth it!"
"I do have a good reason," Nagato said," Konoha is hosting the Chūnin exams this year and the Jinchūrikis Garra and Menma Uzumaki will be participating. I want Sasori, Naruto, and Deidara to participate as students while Konan acts as your Jōnin Sensei. Naruto you will have to use fuinjutsu on both Konan and Deidara to disguise them."
"I will be able to use my original living puppet during the exam but Sasori-Sensei will have to use a different one since his face is well known," Naruto stated.
"Very well, Konan will meet you a few miles outside Konaha with Deidera in two days time and will give you Amegakure headbands and uniforms. Your main objective is to gather intel on the Kyubbi and Ichibi Jinchūrikis."
"My spies tell me that Orochimaru plans to invade Konoha in the finale round of the exams with his Village of Oto and Suna. They also told me he would be impersonating the Kazekage," Sasori said.
"When he kills him Zestu can you seal his body for me," Naruto said," his Kekkei Genkae will make quite the prize of my collection."
Zestu nodded in reply.
"You guys just don't get that art is an explosion, meant to last only a mo..." Deidara started.
"Did you hear something Sensei," Naruto asked.
"Nothing important," he responded.
"Why you...!"
"Enough, this meeting is adjourned. You all know what to do," Nagato said ending his jutsu.
"Well that was interesting," Naruto said.
"Indeed," Sasori replied," let's head to our hideout in the Land of Fire. We'll stock up and make some final adjustments to our puppets."
"Would you like to use my Crystal release puppet? She is close enough in age for this."
"That would work," Sasori nodded as they made their way to the hideout,"to bad you couldn't repair the chakra network of that Ice user we picked up in wave."
"Agreed, but I hope to run into my godmother Tsunade, maybe I could convince her to take me on as a medical apprentice."
"That would be highly beneficial to us," Sasori replied," maybe then Kakuzu will stop complaining about having to reattach Hidan's head everytime he cuts it off."
Two Days Later: Outside Konoha
"They better hurry up," said Sasori from inside his puppet," I hate to be kept waiting."
"Agreed," Naruto said looking towards the sky," here they come now."
Deidara flew in on one of his explosive birds and Konan used her paper wings.
"Your late," intoned both Naruto and Sasori.
"Whatever," Deidara said," just apply those seals so we can get going."
Naruto stepped out of Turtle to reveal his original living puppet to them," Fine, just stand there."
Naruto applied the seal to Deidara and Konan's foreheads and activated them. Deidara shrunk in size, his hair turned brown while becoming short and spiked. Konan's eyes turned deep green while her hair became longer also turning brown.
"That should be enough to get us through these exames without raising questions," Naruto said.
"Here are the uniforms and headbands of Amegakure," Konan said handing them out.
Everyone changed quickly and sprinted in the direction of Konoha. Upon reaching the gates a few minutes later they we stopped by two Chūnin at the gate.
"Papers and reason for entering the village please," the one asked.
"Here you go," Konan said in a fake upbeat facade," and my team and I are here to compete in the Chūnin Exams."
"Everything checks out," the other guard said," Here is the documents to give the front desk at the Hotel and the itinerary of the exams."
"Thank you so much," Konan smiled while grabbing each or her 'Genin' and running towards the hotel.
One they reached the hotel rooms Konan dropped the peppy attitude," I hate being that happy."
"I'm going to scout for information on the Kyubbi since I know my way around here."
"Why is that," Deidara asked.
"Because this is where I was born," Naruto said with disdain.
Naruto walked out of the hotel and flared his chakra out to try and sense where the Kyubbi would be. He quickly found him just two blocks away.
Naruto suppressed his chakra and ran towards the Kyubbi's signature. Just as he got there he saw his brother Menma along with some pink haired girl chasing a little kid with a long blue scarf.
The chase quickly ended however as the kid ran straight into a Suna ninja.
"Watch it brat," the ninja said.
"Just put him down Kankuro," the blonde one next to him said," don't start trouble already."
"But Temari he needs to learn a lesson about watching where you run."
Naruto flared his chakra again and to his luck sensed the Ichibi Jinchūriki in the tree just behind Kankuro.
"Who do you guys think you are," Menma yelled toward them.
"Yeah, put Konohamaru down already," the pink haired chimed in.
Just then a shuriken was thrown by a kid with black hair which caused Kankuro to lose his grip on the boy," Let the Third Hokage's grandson go already."
The boy scrambled away to hide behind Menma.
"Kankuro," came a voice void of emotion," stop disgracing our village or I'll kill you."
"Sure...it was nothing...no harm done Gaara," Kankuro said stepping back from Gaara.
"We are leaving," Garra said turning to leave.
"You with the red hair," the kid with black hair called out," what is your name?"
"Gaara of the Desert, and you are?"
"Sasuke Uchiha," Sasuke answered puffing his chest out.
"Not you, the one with the red hair."
"I'm Menma Namakaze."
"Mother can't wait to taste your blood," was all Gaara said before turning toward the hotel.
Naruto left and returned to his room to debrief his team on what he had gathered.
"It appears Itachi's little shit is in this," Naruto said," the Jinchūriki of the Kyubbi seems unaffected from his Biju right now. The Ichibi on the other hand is blood thirsty and unstable."
"Kinda sounds like Hidan and Kakuzu put together," Deidara said.
"Whatever," Sasori said," let's go spar in one of the training grounds nearby, I need to reacquaint myself with using the Crystal style."
The Next Day:
Naruto, Sasori, and Deidara entered the Konoha Academe and went to the third floor skipping over the obvious Genjutsu on the sign showing the room number. They entered the classroom and felt the tiniest itch of killing intent being focused on them.
Sasori being annoyed at their attempts to strike fear release a tiny fraction of his KI, immediately making the others in the room tremble in fear.
Then came all of the Genin from Konoha being loud and annoying in Naruto's opinion.
"You know you should keep it down," said the voice of one of Sasori's sleeper agents Kabuto," it isn't good to be painting a target on your back before the exams start. I've tried five times already and have only collected data for my ninja cards."
This caused Sasuke to look up at Kabuto," Do you have information on people here?"
"Of course," Kabuto replied," who do you want to know about?"
"Gaara of the desert and the one over there in the group from Amekagure."
"Gaara of the Desert; completed 2 D-Rank, 6 C-Rank, 12 B-Rank, and 2 A-Ranked missions, never got a scratch on him," Kabuto read to them," as to the other one his name is Naruto of the Silent...HEY!"
Kabuto yelled while his card on Naruto was grabbed by a chakra chain and ripped from his hands. Naruto read over the card and passed it to Sasori.
"It appears there is a traitor within your spy network," Naruto whispered to Sasori.
"Indeed," Sasori nodded.
"Alright you maggots," came the voice of Ibiki," get into your seats now or you all fail!"
Everyone rushed to a seat to sit down and were handed a test with a pencil," You have one hour to answer these questions, you start out with a hundred points and lose ten points for every wrong decision. At the end I will give you the final question. Now begin!"
Naruto looked at his test and scoffed at how easy it was, everything on it was stuff he learned from Sasori three years ago. He looked at his other teammate Deidara and saw him chewing a clay bug that crawled out of his hand toward a contestant who was quickly scribbling in the answers.
Sasori just wrote all the answers down and started to navigate one of his tiny bug puppets he used for listening in on conversations to double check his answers. This was more so to show he knew how to secretly gather information.
Teams were starting to be eliminated left and right until only a handful remained. Time was ticking and the closer to the end of the hour the sloppier the other contestants were becoming.
"Time, put your pencils down," Ibiki said," it's time for the tenth and final question, should you chose to answer it and answer incorrectly you shall be forever stuck as a Genin along with the rest of your team. If you choose to skip it you are eliminated and can try again at the next Chūnin exam."
This caused a small outburst from the contestants and more of them started to quit.'What a disgrace to their Villages,' Naruto thought.
All of a sudden Menma put his hand up in the air and slammed it down on the table," We will never give up! We are Shinobi and as such it is our honor to continue even when the odds are against us!"
Ibiki looked on as Menma's speech which seemed to inspire the remaining contestants into staying for the final question.
"No one else," he asked looking around," you all...pass."
"What," yelled Temari.
"Sometimes we ninja have to make tough decisions that could end badly," Ibiki said removing his bandanna showing a heavily scarred head," as Chūnin you will be required to put you life on the line for a mission. Those not willing to take those risks are not Shinobi material."
Just then the window smashed inward with a banner that read' Anko Mitarashi, Dango Queen of Konoha!'
"Your early Anko," Ibiki said walking around her banner.
"Your losing your touch Ibiki," she replied," Twenty groups remaining? No matter, I'll cut them in half. Alright you little shits follow me."
Naruto's team was the first to follow after Anko toward the next location of the Chūnin exams. After ten minutes of jumping and weaving through the Village of Konoha the contestants stopped outside of Training Ground Forty-Four.
"Welcome to my home...The Forest of death."
Menma opened his mouth about to make a snide comment to the pink haired girl on his team when Anko threw a kunai that grazed the side of his face drawing blood. She shushined behind him and licked the blood from the wound," You were saying?"
"Nothing Anko," Menma stuttered out.
"Here is your kunai," a girl with an extremely long tongue holding the kunai Anko had thrown.
"Looks like Orochimaru joined the exam," Deidara whispered.
Naruto created a bunch of tracking seeds using his Mokuton and had his chakra strings plant them in the sandals of both Jinchūriki and Orochimaru.
"Alright, all groups come up to the tent and sign these release forms and collect your scroll. The objective here is to collect an earth scroll or vice versa if you have the heaven scroll. You all will have three days to collect your second scroll by any means necessary."
Naruto's team silently went through the tent and got a heaven scroll, meaning they needed an earth scroll to move on. They positioned themselves by their gate and waited for the alarm to sound.
Five minutes later the alarm went off and the gate opened allowing the groups to jump into the forest. Naruto's group came upon one from Kiri in the first ten minutes.
"Look what we have here," Naruto said scaring the Genin team," how could a group from Kiri be here while they are in a state of civil war?"
"You would be surprised at what our Village is capable of," one of the members responded.
"Deidara take care of them," Sasori said," just don't blowup the scroll."
"With pleasure Sasori my main man," Deidara replied.
Deidara stuck his hands into his clay bags and started to mold one of his creations. The team from Kiri had just jumped from their position ready to battle when they were grounded by chains that shout out of the ground.
"There you go Deidara, make sure it's a masterpiece," Naruto said.
"With pleasure," Deidara replied sending out a bird," KAI!"
The bird exploded sending a shockwave forward which instantly killed the Kiri ninja. Naruto jumped over and retrieved an earth scroll from their leaders pocket. He sealed it into his wrist and returned to his team.
"Got it," Naruto said creating a wood clone," I'll go with Sasori to spy on the Kyubbi and you follow the Ichibi with my clone."
Sasori and Naruto left in the direction of the seeds he planted earlier before Deidara could respond. It took only a few minutes for them to arrive go find that the Kyubbi was fighting against a giant snake summon.
"Looks like Orochimaru was here," Sasori said," go watch him, I'll keep an eye on the Kyubbi."
Naruto nodded and headed off to spy on Orochimaru. He found the man not too faraway terrorizing the Kyubbi's teammates, the pink haired girl and Itachi's little brother. The boy had just fired off a fire ball which hit Orochimaru, who simply regurgitated himself coming out completely fine.
The man then stretched his neck out so that he could bite Sasuke and placed a curse mark on his neck. The boy cried out in pain and collapsed on the tree. Menma came rushing in at this point and Sasori joined Naruto on the tree limb he was hiding on.
"Kid is lucky to be alive," Naruto indicated to Sasuke," got a curse mark from Orochimaru and is still alive. Itachi is going to be pissed that pedophile gave his brother a hickey."
"Same could be said about the Kyubbi brat," Sasori said," got swallowed by that snake and used the Shadow Clone jutsu to cause the snake to explode."
They watched as their old teammate left and followed after the group of Konoha Genin. Menma was carrying Sasuke while the pink haired girl lead them to a tree trunk and applied a genjutsu to make sure they weren't going to be disturbed.
Naruto's clone showed up with Deidara a few hours later and dropped off some extra scrolls they collected on the way before dispersing into a nearby tree.
"You weren't kidding about the Ichibi being unstable," Deidara said," he killed a group of Kumo ninja with his sand and was basking in their death. I thought Hidan was the only one to loved killing that much."
Naruto added a note to the heaven and earth scroll he tied together before using an earth style jutsu to slip it into the cave.
"Let's go to the Tower," Sasori stated. The team flew at speeds impossible to Genin and arrived at the Tower in a few moments. They read the sign and opened their scrolls to reveal Konan.
"I hope you guys are getting what we came for and not just having fun," she stated.
"Can't we do both," Naruto asked.
"We have collected information on both Jinchūrikis," Sasori said," how much longer do we need to stay?"
"Nagato says until the exams are over. If Orochimaru goes through with the invasion we are to assist Konoha to build some trust between them and Amegakure."
"This sucks," Deidara said," I can't even create my art with these weak little ninja. I hope the next round has more promise."
Three Days Later:
The Forest of Death Exam had just finished and the contestants who completed the task were called to the tower's main arena. It was a massive room with balconies on both sides of the walls and a massive statue of two hands demonstrating the Ram sign. In front of this statue stood the Jōnin instructors along with one of Naruto's least favorite people in the world, his father Minato the Forth Hokage.
Looking around Naruto saw that both the Jinchūriki's teams made it, the rest of the Konoha Rookie class, a team from Oto, and Kabuto's team.
"Welcome contestants," Minato spoke out to them," and welcome to the preliminary rounds of the Chūnin exams!"
"What do you mean preliminaries?" shouted a kid from Konoha with red triangles on his face.
"Allow me Lord Fourth," a Konoha ninja said stepping forward. Minato nodded his head allowing the man to continue.
"My name is Hayate and I'll be your Proctor from here till the end," the man continued looking over them," the reason we have these preliminary rounds is because we don't want to waste the time of important clients who come to these exams. In truth, these exams are used by the Villages as a way to gain more clients and money while showing off their power.
"We will begin shortly, if anyone wishes to dropout now is the time."
"I'm out," said Kabuto," I've used to much chakra to get here and wouldn't be able to defeat anyone here."
"You will be escorted back to the village. Anyone else," he waited as the remainder of Kabuto's team raised their hands and followed him out," then we'll proceed. Your names will be randomly selected by a computer and displayed on the monitor above. Winner will be decided by knockout or death, I will step in if your opponent is too weak to go on and you keep fighting."
The monitor flashed through the pictures of the contestants till it stopped on two people.
"Sasuke Uchiha and Zaku Abumi remain here, everyone else move to the balconies," Hayate ordered.
"Both contestants ready...Begin," he said jumping away.
"Looks like I get to repay you for what you did to my arms," Zaku smiled indicating his one arm in a sling.
"You should be easier to beat now since you can only use one arm," Sasuke smirked.
Zaku threw a kunai and shot a burst of air from the hole in his hand to speed it up. Sasuke moved his head to avoid the kunai and threw a few shuriken in retaliation, causing Zaku to dodge out of the way to avoid being impaled.
Sasuke ran towards Zaku in an attempt to beat him in Taijutsu since he could only fight with one hand. However, just as Sasuke's fist was about to make contact with Zaku's face it was grabbed and Zaku retracted his arm from the sling and blasted Sasuke in the gut with a high powered burst of air that sent him spinning away. Sasuke hit the floor hard and quickly got back up on his feet.
"Deception is a ninja's greatest tool," Zaku called out," maybe you should quit now before I break you."
Sasuke grunted in pain as the curse mark started to seep out and onto his skin. But as quick as the mark appeared it was being retracted back into Sasuke through sheer willpower. When the mark was completely gone Sasuke was left panting for air.
"How about we take this up a notch," Sasuke said regaining his composure," or are you ready to start crying again?"
Zaku was enraged by his remark and held both his arms out toward Sasuke, blasting as much air as he could through them. Sasuke however was hoping for just that.
"Katon: Great Fire Ball Jutsu," Sasuke said breathing out a humungous fire ball that mixed together with Zaku's wind attack. The fire jutsu prevailed and overwhelmed Zaku surrounding him within the flames. All the contestants could hear were his cries of pain while being burned alive. The fire jutsu eventually died out and all that remained was the charred corpse of Zaku on the floor.
"Winner by defeat is Sasuke Uchiha," Hayate stated. Sasuke was receiving cheers of congratulations from the rest of his teammates while The Forth Hokage walked out and took him from the arena before he could return up to the stands.
"Probably going to take care of that curse seal," Naruto said," I found the seal to remove it within his scrolls I copied."
"Shut up," Deidara said watching the monitor," it's about to stop."
"Will it pick me already," Sasori said," I hate to be kept waiting."
The monitor finally stopped and landed on Sasori's face and the girl from Oto.
"Will Guren and Kin Tsuchi please make their way to the arena," Hayate called out.
"Make sure you win," Konan said," Nagato wants to show off Amegakure's power so we can start gaining missions and money."
Sasori nodded and leapt over the rail and gracefully landed onto the floor.
"Ready...Begin!"
Kin threw multiple kunai that had ninja wire attached. What was weird was the fact that bells were attached to the wire making a tiny chiming noise. She flashed through a set of hand signs waiting for her genjutsu to activate.
Sasori however stood there completely unfazed looking at her. He held up one of his hands activating his Crystal jutsu. Pink Crystal started to surround Kin until only her head was the only thing left untouched.
"Stupid girl," Sasori spat," I'm immune to genjutsu. Don't rely on genjutsu to beat your opponents."
"Kin is unable to battle, Guren is the winner," Hayate called out and Sasori dispersed the crystal from around Kin. "The next battle will be between Deidura and Shino Aburame."
When Hayate began the battle Deidara stuck his hands into his clay pouch when his hand began to mold his detonation clay. Shino was releasing his bugs and started to disperse them throughout the arena. Deidara threw one of his clay birds at Shino and made it explode creating huge cloud of smoke. He release some worm shaped creations that burrowed into the floor.
Shino's bugs then started to land on Deidara eating his chakra. Deidara smirked at Shino, setting him on edge. He brought his hand to his face and formed a hand sign shouting "KAI!"
The ground beneath Shino exploded sending the boy into the air where Deidara jumped up and kicked him hard back into the floor of the arena. Shino's bugs retreated to their unconscious master and begun to feed him chakra to help speed up the process of healing.
"Winner by knockout is Deidara. Menma Namakaze and Kiba Inuzuka please come down."
Minato just walked in and joined Menma's Sensei, the Copycat Ninja Kakashi of the Sharringan. Menma engaged Kiba in Taijutsu and was constantly relying on his Shadow clones to keep the boy and his dog at bay. It was through sheer luck that Menma farted in the faces of both Kiba and his dog that caused them to pass out from sensory overload.
"Winner by knockout is Menma Namakaze. Will Naruto and Tenten please make their way to the arena."
Naruto jumped down just as Sasori had for his battle and landed without making a sound.
"Ready...Begin!"
"Suiton: Hiding in the Mist," Naruto said without moving. The water in the air condensed and formed a huge cloud of mist that covered the entire arena. This gained the interest of all the Jōuin and Minato since there hadn't been a Suiton user strong enough to pull water from the air since the Second Hokage.
Naruto quietly made his way around the arena releasing his paralyzingly gas into the vapor. As soon as he made his lap around the arena he dispersed the mist showing a confused Tenten standing in battle position with her kunai drawn.
Naruto released his chakra chains that flew at blinding speeds towards Tenten to hold her in place," Don't bother to try and substitute since my chains are interrupting your flow of chakra constantly making it impossible to mold. By now your body should begin to tighten up as the paralyzing gas in the air is shutting down your muscles."
"The winner by defeat is Naruto," Hayate called out as Tenten was released to fall to the floor unable to move. Naruto noticed the eyes of everyone watching him as he returned to his team, especially those of Minato and Menma. He knew that he was going to be summoned later by the Forth Hokage to discus what transpired.
"Neji Hyūga and Hinata Hyūga please make your way down."
The fight was over before it began, Hinata was too timid and shy while Neji overpowered her. Even though she did gain some confidence from Menma's encouraging, she still lost in the end.
"Lee and Gaara."
This fight Naruto found to be a lot more interesting. He could sense little to no chakra being emitted from Lee meaning he couldn't mold chakra and Gaara had his ultimate defense of sand out ready to block. It seemed like neither side was gaining any ground until Lee released some of the Eight Inner Gates. Lee was moving at such speeds that Gaara's sand couldn't keep up allowing him to gain some ground.
However, Lee made the mistake of assuming he had won after performing the Hidden Lotus Technique only to have his arm and leg grabbed by Gaara's sand. Gaara closed his fist and the sand compressed destroying Lee's arm and leg. Lee cried out in pain and collapsed to the floor.
"Winner by Knockout is Gaara," Hayate called out removing Lee before Gaara could attack the unconscious Lee.
"Sakura Haruno and Ino Yamanaka," Hayate called out returning.
Their match was entirely pitiful, if Naruto could show emotions it would be one of utter disgust. Both the kunoichi just slapped each other around the arena without using any ninjutsu and both knocked the other out with a single punch.
"Both contestants are unable to continued, neither will move on."
"Thank you," Deidara said," worthless, I wouldn't waste my art on either of them."
"Temari and Choji Akimich."
It took some coaxing from his Sensei but Choji eventually agreed to go down and fight Temari. However as soon as Hayate began the match Choji was blown away with Temari's fan, wacked his head into a wall, and was knocked out.
"Winner Temari. Finally will Shikimaru Nara and Doso Kinuta come down for the final match. This will conclude the preliminaries with Kankuro gaining a bypass to the next round."
"What a drag," Shikimaru said. He tossed a smoke bomb onto the floor and snuck his way behind Doso attaching his shadow.
"Why can't I move," Doso said trying to move his body.
"Shadow Possession complete," Shikimaru said. He made a motion to his body that was mirrored by Doso. He made Doso grab a kunai from his leg holster and held it to his neck.
"Forfeit," Shikamaru commanded.
"I forfeit," Doso said.
"Winner, Shikimaru. Will all the contestants moving on please come down a pick a number from this box."
"Seven," Sasori said.
"Two," said Neji.
"Four," Naruto replied.
"Five," Deidara said after him.
"One," came Menma.
"Three," said Kankuro.
"Nine," smirked Sasuke.
"Six," spoke Temari
"Eight," said Shikamaru.
"Ten," uttered Gaara.
"Congratulations to those moving on," Minato spoke to them," you will each have one month before the Finals so I suggest you all work extra hard improving yourselves till then. You are all dismissed except for the team from Amekagure, I wish to speak with you privately."
The other teams filed out with their Senseis u till the only ones left were Naruto's team and Minato.
"Who are you," Minato asked glaring at Naruto," there is only one other person I know in the world who can create chakra chains and she is my wife. Also, how do you know how to pull water from the air?"
"Really father," Naruto said calmly," you don't remember me?"
"I'm not your father, I only ever had Menma!"
"Really," Naruto said.
"'Kushina that little freak is finally gone,'" Naruto said perfectly mimicking Minato's voice before switching to Kushina,"'It's about time, I thought he would never leave.'"
"So this is where you ended up," Minato spat," you ran to Amegakure and joined them."
"Not the whole truth but in a way yes. Do tell me that Menma is enjoying my old room."

"I can see why you left," he said trying to lighten the mood.
