Chapter 2: Kaname's memories
The winds whistled through the trees as the leaves shook in the breeze ruffling the young girls red hair and wrapping it around her face. Reaching up she pulled the wavy mess away from her eyes and gazed out at the trees, somehow familiar as their leaves were tossed about around the foot of the trunks on the damp earth.
She looked to the right where her pale hand held her blood red hair she blinked twice as the world suddenly turned red and she could see the fine outline of her blood vessels pumping warm blood around her body.
A young man stood not far behind leaning against a tree in the dead of night, he observed as the wind whipped her white night gown around her knees.
It'd been many years since he'd last seen the girl standing before him, last time she'd been calm and sad, now she just stared out into the canopy of trees like she was lost.

(Flashback)
My eyes fluttered open again as I blinked away the darkness that threatened to over-run my mind.
'What happened again? Ah of course I blocked my friends attacker and got shot'
I felt the wood from the arrow that pierced though my heart in my hand. There was still fresh blood flowing from the wound but I hadn't enough strength to lift my arm and stop the flow.
Instead I just lay there looking up at the trees, leaves and branches swaying in the light breeze as leaves danced around the base of the trunks.
"Kaname"
I registered the faint voice, echoing louder and louder.
"Kaname are you ok?"
My mind sluggishly accepted the voice as my friend Katarina and the thuds echoing along the woodland ground were that of her boots running towards me.
"Sorry I went to go get water to try and wash the wound, are you ok?" her face though slightly blurred appeared before me, wild un-brushed hair framing her small face.
"Obviously not" I joked weakly shifting uncomfortably on the hard ground and groaning when she moved my head from the floor to her lap.
"Here drink, it'll stop the poison from spreading" she pressed the water carrier to my lips and tipped slightly so that the water trickled down my throat. There was a faint and pleasant burning sensation that followed it down.
"What's this, magic water?" I smiled weakly but she stayed silent.
"Kaname when this is over I have to go somewhere and I probably won't ever be able to see you again which is sad because ever since we were little we've always played together and helped each other out, you're my best friend and the person I love the most and that's why I really don't want to leave" she was upset I could tell by the way she roughly stroked my hair.
"What are you talking about?" I asked pushing the water carrier from me with the hand that wasn't pressed over my slowly healing wound. I still couldn't see any define features of her face such as her innocently rounded cheeks and dark emerald eyes but I could see the outline of her mouth which was pulled down at the corners.
"Nothing now go back to sleep, it was foolish of you to protect me when you know full well I can defend myself" Katarina lightly pressed her lips against mine leaving a tingling sensation in their wake.
"Love you"
(End of Flashback)

He stood silently as she watched the world pass by, dawn fast approaching on the horizon, Her strength would soon fade once again and she'd go back to being a lifeless doll.
"Katarina" the name left his lips before he could stop himself as she fell back.
In one fluid motion he caught the falling girl, watching her face as her eyes slowly closed the green orbs disappearing behind the pale skin and wavy red hair falling limply behind her.
Her head rested comfortably on his shoulder as she slept on again, the harsh glares of the early morning sun breaking through the hazy light of the woodland as the pair left through the gaps in the trees.
