Chapter 2

Empty. Completely empty. Elena stood in the doorway, blinking, her face completely blank. She quickly looked at her phone, double checking the time. Double checked the sign on the door, definitely said Turks. So why was the office empty?

Well, it wasn't empty per se. It had desks, six to be exact. Three look like an average desk, with papers, computers and general clutter expected to build up with use. Two were completely barren, obvious unused. Perhaps one would wind up being hers. The last however, she personally found terrifying. It was piled, literally piled, two or three feet high with... Gaia only knows what. It was an utter mess.

"Ms Starling I presume." Came a voice behind her. Spinning around, she found herself face to face with a man she recognized instantly.

He was tall, probably around the six foot mark. His hair was black, and was so tightly organized that Elena thought it might just be a plastic hair hat. It definitely accented the strong oriental features of his face. What caught Elena off guard though, was the way he managed to bore right into you with his eyes. The authority in his eyes was definitely befitting his position as head of the Turks.

"Sir!" Elena responded, snapping to attention. "Elena Starling reporting for duty"

"Boss will suffice" Tseng informed her. "Welcome to the Turks. "Your desk is against the wall."

"Thank you sir, er, boss." Elena responded, eying the desk against the wall. It was right next to the messy desk. Well, at least she wouldn't have to deal with her neighbor. Obviously, whoever it was, was away on assignment. How else would a desk reach such a state of disarray?

"Reno!" Tseng called out, stepping past Elena and into the office. "Help Ms Starling get settled."

Suddenly, the ground began to shake. Elena stared and shock as the mountain before her began to crumple. She fought with all her might to not scream as papers crashed to the floor. And, after the world had shattered, and the ground cracked open, an evil creature spewed forth.

The first thing she noticed about it was it's head. It was flaming, the streaks of red shooting off in insane directions. And the head it was upon, alabaster, carved perfectly, handsome even, ending in a pointed chin. The eyes however are what ultimately captured Elena's attention. The waves of the ocean crashed against the lenses, practically causing them to shine.

"Yo." Reno said simply, greeting Elena.

"Uh..." Elena was startled. "Hi" She said quickly.

"Lucky you." Reno said. Wow, his voice. Elena couldn't believe how smooth his voice was. "Looks like you get the desk next to mine." He finished.

Why are you not saying anything? Elena asked herself. She could feel his eyes drilling into her very soul. She needed to think fast. Say something smart!

"Doesn't matter to me, as long as I can work." Elena responded. What the hell is wrong with you?!

She watched as Reno simple stood there, blinking. If he had been offended by her curt response, he wasn't showing any sign of it.

"Right then, well. I'll show you how to set up your computer" Reno finally said, motioning towards her computer.

Elena took her first step into her new office, and her new life.
