What's happening, readers? It's time for Chapter dos of "P.K.A: A New Generation!", and this will introduce Gray's first rival! It will also be taking place in Pallet Town, and then Gray will set out for Viridian City! Also, before you start reading, I've edited this and the end of last chapter because I had some change of plans during the two weeks since writing these. Now let's get going!
guest: As soon as I read your review I changed that XD Thanks for letting me know
MCMVCV: NO! IT IS NOT OKAY! JK, and I really liked your opinions on the characters. I'm still deciding whether or not I should have Tracey and Sammy be main characters or not, but they'll probably end up as recurring characters
ErsonThaCarter: Do they actually argue about stuff like that? Haha, that sounds like a pain, but kind of entertaining. Also, thanks for reviewing, and I like the answers!
Emboar-Man (guest): Gray won't be catching a Pidgey, or anything that can Mega Evolve (no reason for that, I just don't feel like it). She will, however, catch one Pokemon from each region, though her Johto Pokemon will have been introduced in Kanto
ShadowDragon9000: Hype! And now that I've revised it a little, I'm starting to think Owen will have some sort of a role in this story, whether it be minor or major. Meowth will definitely be a pain for a little, but there will be another Pokemon (possibly two) that will be much, much worse than her. So much so that I'm thinking they might get released at some point. Also, Chase is going to be the go-to funny guy whenever I feel like trying (emphasis on the trying) to get a laugh in
Gray's team
Meowth, (f), level 5, Scratch, Growl
"Please watch your step and have a nice stay in lovely Pallet Town!" the train conductor exclaimed as waves of people hopped off the train. Gray was one of the first people off the locomotive, but she turned and waited for her mother and brother. Chase, Sammy, and Tracy soon followed with their families, and the enormous group made their way towards Professor Oak's lab.
"Why exactly is graduation here?" Sammy whined as she walked alongside Tracy, who looked over at her in annoyance. "It would've been so much more convenient if it was in Saffron City!"
"We could've been here a lot sooner if you wouldn't have taken an hour to do your hair!" Tracy shouted, making Gray roll her eyes while Chase laughed at the bickering sisters. "Whatever, at least we finally get to pursue our careers after tonight. I can't wait to be a Pokemon Doctor!"
"And I can't wait to be a Coordinator!" Sammy shrieked while beaming. The group suddenly reached Professor Oak's lab and walked up the famous steps so many successful trainers had scaled. Names like Red, Ash Ketchum, and Owen Plateau came to my mind, and Gray's heart began to race as she reached the top of the steps and walked into the laboratory.
"So, Gray, you're going to be a trainer, right?" Chase asked the sixteen year old, who nodded in response. "That's cool. Did you get a Pokemon from your mom, or are you getting one from Professor Oak?"
"My mom. I didn't score high enough on the test to get one from Professor Oak, but I don't care, my mom has some great Pokemon at the Adoption Center," the brunette said, her gray eyes flickering at the mere mentioning of the Pokemon she had grown up with. "What about you? You haven't told anyone about what you're going to do."
"I'm not sure. It's got to be between a breeder and doctor, but I can't decide," Chase admitted before sighing. "I don't have much time to decide, but I'll be fine either way," the boy continued while smiling at Gray. As soon as the conversation ended, the three families walked into a large room where there were hundreds of other graduates and their families.
"It looks like we've got a packed house here," Sammy and Tracy's parents said in unison before chuckling. "It's going to be a while before you're all called." The four teens groaned at the announcement and they sat in their designated seats, which were all the way in the back of the room. After waiting for what seemed to be an eternity, the four teens were finally escorted to the front of the room with two other trainers, and they were pushed into a smaller room. Upon stepping into the room, Gray gasped in shock as there were several lab tables where dozens of the regional starters were sitting patiently, and Professor Gary Oak was busy making sure all of the Pokemon were ready to go.
"Oh! Welcome, everyone. If you're here for a Pokemon, please step to the right side of the wall. If you're here for a license and Pokedex, come here." Gray awkwardly stepped forward along with Chase and one of the unfamiliar trainers while the twins stood to the side with the other mysterious boy. The older boy she had never seen before - who was standing with her and Chase - had dark skin and black dreadlocks that were tied back. Along with that, there was some kind of tattoo around his neck that resembled some kind of bird, and he also wore a jewel-encrusted Pokeball chain with matching earrings. On top of that, he was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt with a pair of black jeans, and black and green shoes. He was a very muscular boy that stood around 6'3" and seemed to weigh close to 230 pounds. "Name?" Gary asked Gray, who stuttered.
"Uh-uh... Gray Plain," the girl replied before a picture was taken of her. Gary quickly punched some buttons on his computer while hooking Gray's Pokedex up, and then he handed it to her.
"You're all set, Ms. Plain," the Pokemon professor informed the younger girl, who bowed thankfully before walking out of the room. Once she did, Gray held up her I.D and gazed at it until Billy and her mother ran over to her side.
"Wow! I can't believe my sister's a licensed Pokemon trainer! Everyone at school is going to be so jealous!" Billy said, which made Gray and her mother laugh. The sixteen year old turned to the older woman and noticed tears building up in her eyes, but she wiped them away and smiled.
"You're father would be so proud."
"You think so?" Gray quizzed before looking upwards. Before her mother could answer, a wave of talking washed over the room and everyone's attention shifted to the front of the laboratory. "What's going on?" Gray quizzed as she tried to see what the big deal was. Suddenly, the hundreds of people flocked towards the front of the lab and began screaming, which confused Gray, her mother, and her brother.
"Excuse me. Pardon me. Sorry," a voice said as people were pushed out of the way. As Gray focused her sights on the crowd, she gasped when the champion of the Kanto region walked through the lab.
"It's Red!" Billy screamed before trying to run towards the teenager. His mother, however, grabbed his ear and yanked on it, making the little boy scream before calming down. Gray didn't pay any attention, however, and she stared at the champion as he continued to walk towards her, and she began to walk towards the sixteen year old.
"Gray, what do you think you're doing? Leave that poor boy alone!" Gray's mother barked, stopping her dead in her tracks. The girl frowned as Red walked by, not noticing her, and she watched the teen disappear into the room Gary and her friends were in. After five minutes passed, Chase, Sammy, and Tracey walked out of the room with their licenses and Pokeballs in hand, beaming. While their parents celebrated, Gray and her friends walked off to a separate corner and began talking.
"You saw Red, right?" the trainer quizzed, looking at the twins. Both girls nodded emphatically before sighing, making Gray roll her eyes. "Did he say anything?"
"No, but that one kid that was paired with you and Chase tried to challenge him to a battle," Sammy answered before laughing at the thought. "Red would wipe the floor with that chump."
"What did you say?" a cold voice asked, making Sammy freeze along with Gray, Chase, and Tracey. The quartet turned to see the strange boy standing a few feet away from them, and he was glaring the entire time. "If you have something to say, say it to my face, little girl," the angry teen spat while walking towards Sammy.
"Hey, we don't want any trouble," Chase informed the taller and older boy while raising his hands up defensively. "We're just trying to have fun."
"Really? Because it sounds like you want to battle!" the teen shouted, grabbing everyone's attention. Gray looked around in embarrassment while her mother glared at her, and Billy laughed at the situation. "Come on, let's go! I'll take you on right here!"
"Hold your horses, kid," Gary stated, his words cutting through the air like knives. "There won't be any battling in my lab." Suddenly, Red appeared by the professor's side and he nodded in agreement.
"Yeah. If you're going to battle, let's take it outside." The strange teen glared at Sammy, and the girl looked back at Gray and Chase before whispering to both of them.
"One of you has to battle him. I'm no trainer." Chase and Gray locked eyes for a split second before Gray stepped forward and stood in front of Sammy defensively, making the boy raise his eyebrows in shock.
"I'll battle you. Let's go." With that, the girl, her friends, the strange boy, Gary, and Owen went outside while the crowd filed out after them, and they watched from the top of the steps while Red and Gary decided to act as the referees. Gray and the unnamed teen, meanwhile, took ten steps back and stopped before pulling out their Pokeballs.
"Let's go Gray!" Tracey cheered obnoxiously before clapping. The large crowd by the top of the lab began to cheer for the girl also, while Chase clapped and Sammy remained silent, looking into the eyes of the unnamed trainer. Her stomach twisted while looking into the teen's cold, dark eyes, and she turned to Gray in fear.
"What are there names?" Red asked Gary in a hush whisper.
"The girl's Gray and the boy's Trentavious," the professor replied.
"This will be a one on one battle between Gray and Trentavious! The battle will be over when either Pokemon is unable to continue. Choose your Pokemon!" Red shouted. Without hesitation, Trentavious hurled his only Pokeball, and a bipedal snake appeared in front go him.
"What the? How does he have a Snivy?" Tracey quizzed, looking at her sister and Chase. Both teens shrugged and turned their attention to Gray, waiting anxiously to see what Pokemon their friend owned.
"Come on out, Meowth!" the sixteen year old shouted while chucking her only Pokeball. Her three friends looked at each other in confusion while the normal type appeared, and the feline laid down while closing her eyes. "Umm... Meowth?" Gray asked the Pokemon, who continued to sleep.
"Is this some kind of joke?" Trentavious asked while laughing. Gray glared at the older boy and walked over to Meowth before bending down. Slowly, the girl poked her Pokemon, who woke up and hissed angrily, making Gray jump back in fear. Red and Gary watched the sight and sighed at the relationship between the two, and they glanced over at Trentavious and his Snivy.
"Meowth, we have a battle we need to win! Let's go!" Gray shouted at the feline, who simply waved her trainer off. As Meowth went to lay her head on the ground, she was stopped when Trentavious' voice cut through the air, and she picked her head up immediately.
"What a weak Pokemon. Why would you want a Meowth as your starter?" After hearing this, Meowth shot off the ground and stood on her hind legs, hissing angrily at Trentavious and his Snivy. The grass snake snickered at the normal type and motioned for the normal type to charge.
"That's the spirit! Let's start this off with Growl to lower their attack!" Gray shouted confidently. Much to her dismay, Meowth dropped to all fours and bolted towards Snivy. She then leaped at her opponent and attempted to tackle him to the ground, but Snivy was far too quick. Thanks to her speed, Snivy was able to evade the attack, causing Meowth to slam face first into the ground, making her irate while Snivy snickered.
"Crush Meowth with Tackle!" Before Gray or Meowth could react, Snivy slammed into the feline and sent her rolling back to her trainer.
"Man, that's gotta hurt," Chase muttered under his breath while Meowth pushed herself back to her feet. "Hopefully they can start working together, otherwise there's no chance they'll win."
"Hey, don't doubt Gray!" Tracey barked at Chase, making the taller boy flinch. "She's going to win, no matter what! Come on, Gray!"
"Meowth, you need to listen to me. Use Growl so their attacks won't do as much damage!" Gray begged her starter, who turned her back. Trentavious and Snivy watched as Gray began glaring at Meowth, who turned to face her trainer and hissed. "We can't win this separately! Stop being so annoying, Meowth!"
"Meow-Meow," Meowth replied before laying on the ground once again, tired of listening to Gray's annoying voice. Even though she was enraged by Trentavious and Snivy's words, Meowth didn't care enough to engage in combat. The icing on the cake was definitely Gray's reaction, which was one of extreme anger.
"Agh! Use a damn Scratch attack if you want to!" Gray screamed, making Trentavious and Snivy laugh while the spectating crowd remained silent. Meowth slowly rose to her feet and her claws extended while turning white. The normal type shocked everyone when she turned around and lunged at Gray in an attempt to scratch her across the face, and the rookie trainer threw her arms out in selfdefense.
"Catch Meowth with Vine Whip!" Two vines suddenly wrapped around Meowth's arms, and the normal type began to flail violently in an attempt to break free, but her captor was far too strong. Everyone turned to see a teen walking towards the battle with a Venasaur by his side, and a look of relief was on his face. "I think this battle's over, Red."
"Agreed. The winners of this battle are Trentavious and Snivy!" Red announced before the crowd and Gary went back into the lab so everyone could get their Pokemon. While the crowd left, Gray fell to her knees and buried her face in her hands, and Trentavious withdrew his Snivy. He then watched as Gray's friends, Red, and the boy that had intervened walked over to Gray, and a scowl made its way across his face.
"Hey, Gray!" he shouted, grabbing everyone's attention. "Don't battle me unless you actually become a trainer!" With that, Trentavious walked away, and the girl continued to sob at her loss.
"It's okay, Gray. Don't worry about what that jerk said to you," Sammy said to her friend while her, Chase, and Gray's families walked over. "Thanks for battling for me, by the way. That was really brave."
"I wasn't brave, I was stupid," Gray muttered in response as she wiped the tears from her face and stood up.
"That's not true," Chase objected. "I was too scared to battle that guy, but you weren't. That takes guts."
"Your friends are right," Red stated, catching everyone's attention. "Even though your Pokemon didn't listen to you, you stuck up for her, and that's all that really matters. The wins will come soon enough," he said before walking away. As he did, the Kanto champion patted the unfamiliar boy's shoulder and stopped. "I'll meet you back at the office." With that, Red released his Charizard and flew towards the Indigo League.
"So what's your name?" the unfamiliar boy asked Gray as he withdrew his Venasaur.
"Gray. Why do you ask?" Gray's mother answered.
"I'm Owen Plateau. Nice to meet you."
What!? Owen's back! So I know this is out of sequence with Kalos Adventure (which, at the moment, is at chapter 77), but epilogue chapter 2 (of Kalos) connects the two together. Anyways, Gray lost against her first rival, Trentavious, because Meowth didn't listen to her, but that doesn't matter because it's her first day as a licensed trainer! Owen will most likely be making a few more appearances over the next arc or two, but I'm still unsure about his role. Till next time, peace out.
Next Chapter: "Voyaging to Viridian": Now officially off on her journey, Gray treks to Viridian City in hopes of finding a new Pokemon, while also claiming her first gym badge! Will our heroine be able to win her gym battle, if there even is one?
