Late.

He was late. As she sat against the base of a large tree, she dimly mused over this.

There were days on end where he wouldn't return, and made sure to leave behind no trace of his existence. She'd wait for him, nonetheless. Patiently. Yet after the third day that would pass, he'd come strolling into their clearing with that air of regal that she knew all too well.

However, now even as a week rolled on by, there was no sign of his arrival. Days turned to weeks, which in turn moved into months. Her green companion pleaded her to come with him. She could no longer stay here waiting for the Taiyoukai. It was painfully obvious what had become of him.

Even as she shook her head and pushed him away, along with tears that threatened to spill over, she couldn't help but realize something she knew all along; something the imp had been trying to make her see.

He wasn't late.

He just wasn't coming back.

Not now, not ever.
