~ Legend Chapter Two: Retell and Rewrite ~

So it appears I left off right after the Moon chose me.

Here goes...

After the Moon told me that I was the Piperess, I was very confused.

First of all, the Piperess didn't feel right to call myself. I was used to my less majestic real name. For an odd reason, it fit when I later thought about it.

Second, it told me I was the spirit of music. I couldn't remember anything that happened right before waking up on the bottom of the mountain, so being called a spirit was weird.

Third, I had just fallen down a mountain, and I felt no pain whatsoever.

Something was obviously amiss. I decided to head back up to my village, and to let them know I was okay. I hiked up the mountain, taking a very long time. By the time I reached my village, it was dawn the next day. I headed to my house, where my brother would usually get up early to water the plants, while I fed our animals and our father. Thinking about it, I could clearly picture his excitement when he realized I was alive.

The door opened and I smiled, excited to surprise him. Hugo stepped out, rubbing his eyes. They were unusually red-brimmed, like he had been crying. Sat up, ready to hug him and see his face lighten up.

But it didn't.

"Hugo?" I said softly. "What's wrong?"

He didn't answer me, he just looked like he was looking right through me.

"Hallo? Hugo?" I tried again. Tears started to stream down his face as he ran towards me. I put my arms out to embrace him, and make him feel better.

But he ran /through/ me.

Through my body.

Like I didn't exist.

I felt a sharp pain in my heart, mixed with the emotions of fear, heartbreak, worry, confusion, and more.

It was like being stabbed repeatedly.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Shocked, I stood up sharply, and tried to recover. I couldn't wrap my mind around it, not being seen, heard, felt.

Did I even exist?

Was I a doppel-ganger, the ghost my mum told me about?

I wasn't sure. Leaning down, I tried to pat his head, disappointed when my hand went through.

I was distraught, angry, upset, and close to tears.

I ran.

I left my previous identity there, and knew I could never go back.

It was like I didn't exist, like time wouldn't affect me anymore.

I knew I would never be able to face watching everyone I knew go on without me.

It was here that I started my journey alone.

The Piperess had made it a habit of hers to walk around the colonies. This was a place for growth. She believed that it would be the source of something new, something good. Although it was under British rule, the Piperess thought the connection wouldn't last as long as the Brits would like.

It was 1709, and the warm May air was refreshing. The Piperess was walking around in a small, unnamed village in a territory called Pennsylvania. Even though it was small, it still accommodated a lot of people, and in a way reminded the Piperess of her old village.

Searching for an open door or window was a habit of hers. The feeling of family or friends had been lost by now, she had rarely talked to anyone, and none dared to talk to her. They had all heard about /the incident/.

She passed an open window. Stopping, she could hear a boy's voice.

"Emma! Quiet down and I'll tell you a story."

The boy had brown hair that was disheveled, and mischievous-looking brown eyes. He stood tall above his sister, looking to be about thirteen.

"Ja-ack. Tell me!" Emma whined. She had long brown hair, the same brown eyes, and a beauty mark under her right eye. The six year old sat at the end of the bed.

"Fine, I will." Jack smiled. "The story is called 'The Pied Piper'."

The Piperess froze. She wondered if this was the story about her.

Jack took a deep breath. "A long time ago, there was a city in Germany, called Hamelin. They had a terrible rat problem. These rats were everywhere, they got into the homes and the streets. The mayor, deciding this was a big problem, sent out a request to all of the other villages, asking for help. He even offered a reward- five gold coins."

"Did they get it?" Emma asked.

Jack continued. "Many people tried to get rid of the rats, but none were successful. Then, one day, a mysterious pipe-player, a piper, came to offer help. That night, he played a magical tune on his pipe, which made the rats attracted to it. He then led them out of the town."

Emma smiled. "Everyone must have been so happy!"

"They were. However, the mayor was greedy. He refused to pay the piper his five gold coins!"

Emma gasped. "That is so mean of him!"

Jack nodded. "It was. The piper was very upset. He then thought of a plot. That night, the piper played a different tune. This one made all of the children attracted to it. He then led the children of the town to a magical playground, where they were very happy. Some ended up staying behind because they did not hear it. They told their parents, who told the mayor. Upset, the mayor gave the piper his five gold coins, but added an extra coin as well."

"That's great!" Emma grinned.

"The piper then sent everyone home. And they all lived happily every after." Jack grinned back at her. "Wait! There is a moral to this story. Don't be greedy, or you might lose something."

Emma smiled. "That was a wonderful story, Jack!"

The Piperess smirked. The details of the story were all wrong, her gender had even been changed. What made her smile was the blame being put on the mayor, not her.

"It's one of my favorites." Jack answered.

"Wouldn't it be cool to meet the piper?" Emma asked.

"The piper is right here." The Piperess said, thinking that they wouldn't hear her.

Or see her.

When Jack and Emma turned to the window, they never expected to see a purple haired sixteen year old watching them.

So she did what was natural.

She ducked.

Jack stuck his head out the window. "I can still see you." He half-taunted.

The Piperess sighed and looked up. "Hallo." She said, half-smiling.

"Who are you?" Jack asked, frowning.

"Um.." The Piperess knew using her real name would only confuse them. "The Pied Piper?"

Jack was still frowning. "But you're a girl!"

"The story got messed up after a while." She admitted.

"Wait, that story was a long time ago! How are you still alive?"

"I'm like the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman."

"And like Santa and the Easter Bunny?"

"Pretty much." The Piperess smiled.

Jack grinned. "Come in! Emma's not 'supposed to stick her head out the window and she wanted to meet you!"

The Piperess stood up and climbed inside the window.

Emma smiled at her brother. "Who is this?"

"This," Jack said proudly, "is the Pied Piper."

"Is that your real name?" Emma asked the Piperess.

The Piperess shook her head. "It's actually the Piperess, but I am the Pied Piper."

Emma frowned for a moment. "'The Piperess' is too long. You need a nickname."

The Piperess looked partially shocked. "A-A nickname?"

Jack nodded. "Yup! Like...uh...hm...I know! Piper!"

"Piper?" The Piperess asked.

Emma smiled. "I like it."

"It fits you." Jack assured her.

"Jack? Emma?" A voice from outside the bedroom asked, which the Piperess presumed to be their mother. "Who are you talking to?"

"The Pied Piper!" Emma exclaimed.

"That's nice. Now go to sleep, okay?" Their mother chuckled to herself.

"Okay!" Jack yelled. He turned to the Piperess, and asked quietly. "Do you like the nickname?"

The Piperess, to be known now as Piper, nodded. "I do, Jack." She moved towards the window. "You two better get some sleep, but I'll visit tomorrow, okay?"

Emma grinned. "Okay! Good night Piper!"

Piper climbed out the window, and Jack closed it. The rush of being believed in by two children made her squeal slightly. She hadn't been this happy in a while.

She ran to the woods, still exuberant. Once the moon was clear through the trees, she looked up to it.

"So I finally did something right, eh?"

A/N: PIPER HAS HER NICKNAME! YEAH!

Jack's sister is Emma by my book, but she was originally going to be named Emily. But that's Mother Nature's name, and I think Emma is pretty popular -_-

Please go look at my other ROTG story, 'A Book of Spirits'. I'm pretty excited about it :D.

I also have a ton of new OCs now, so some of them will meet Piper.

Oh, and Jack's relative from last chapter is named RedMoonLianneSnowJulesRivNica Overland. It's actually... I think Elizabeth. I hadn't thought of that when I wrote the chapter.

I'm also addicted to Frozen now :3. Here is a stupid story based on Jack's newfound obsession:

Bunny was looking over some new paints, to prepare for Easter. Even though the holiday was less than six months away, you could never be over-prepared.

Jack suddenly burst into the Warren, singing a loud, slightly off-key version of 'Let it Go'.

"LET IT GOOOOOO, LET IT GO! CAN'T HOLD IT BACK ANYMORE!"

Bunny almost fell into the paint river. "Bloody hell, frostbite. What're doin'?"

Jack jumped right up to Bunny's ear. "The cold never bothered me anyway." He softly sang.

Bunny fell into the river. "FROST!"

I love you all,
