Chapter 2: Preparation for Kidsmas

"A little to the left, Skips!" Skippsy Penguin says as she watches her twin brother, Skipper, tilt a large wreath. "Actually, no, a little to the right!" Her twin sighs and moves the wreath yet again. "No, no! That's too far! More to the left again!"

Skipper looks down at her from the ladder. "Milk and cookies, Skippsy! Make up your mind already for goodness sake!" He exclaims as he moves the wreath again. "How about here? Is this good? Because I am not moving it any further!"

"But it's all crooked, Skipper!" Skippsy says and rolls her ice-blue eyes. "Just move and let me do it, if you're 'too good' to move it any more." She says.

Skipper rolls his eyes. "Not likely, sister, you'll just make the whole thing fall down!" He says and tilts the wreath. "And this?"

Skippsy takes a step back and holds her flippers up and looks through the small hole she makes with her flippers. She gives him a nod. "That's perfect." She says.

Her brother nods and slides down the ladder. "Thank you for coming on such short notice anyway, Skippsy." He says with a small nod. He actually is not really happy about it, but they had been really short on help this year after last year's crises. They really had needed his sister's team.

"Oh don't worry about it, Skips." She says as she picks up a string of red and green christmas lights. She hands the bundle to Skipper for him to take back up the ladder with him and start stringing along the fence. "You're short on help this year. It's our pleasure to help you and the team do something for the little ones." She smiles. 'Even if you are the most annoying penguin in the world to share my genes with.' She thinks behind it.

Skipper nods some and looks over at a tree that Rico and Rachel are decorating. "Yeah…" He says and watches as Rachel drops a red ball ornament on Rico's head. 'No, Rico, don't do it...' He thinks as he is almost positive Rico will regurgitate a chainsaw or flamethrower for payback about the ornament. He silently sighs some in relief as he watches his sergeant just rub his head some and hand the ornament back up to Rachel.

"Eh, Skipper?" Skippsy says and Skipper shakes his head and looks at her. "Eh, what?" He asks. Skippsy just shakes her head in disbelief. "I said quite simply, this time of season really makes everyone more easy to be around, doesn't it?" She repeats.

Skipper looks at her and shakes his head. "I wouldn't quite throw that file in the complete pile yet, Skippsy." He says as he looks over at Marissa and Kowalski who are yet again bickering over some sort of decorations. "It's not always necessarily true; exhibit A." He nods in the direction of the two scientists as he starts up the ladder with the lights.

Skippsy glances at them with a shrug before looking at a clipboard which has a list of everything that needs to be accomplished for Kidsmas and the assigned jobs for everyone. Private, Trixy, and Roger are on music; Rachel, Rico, and Maurice are on tree decoration duty; Marissa, Kowalski, Julian, and Mort are on other decorations; Mason is dressing up as Santa, and Phil as an elf. Skippsy herself, Skipper, and Marlene are covering just about everything else. Bert the elephant and the gorillas have agreed to help if they absolutely must, though would really prefer to not do as much this year due to last year's problems. She glances once again at the two scientists as she hears their arguing starting to raise in volume.

"Kowalski! No! We're doing the Twelve Days of Christmas for the theme this year!" Marissa shouts, tapping her clipboard.

Kowalski snorts and shakes his head. "No, we are doing more basic! Charles Dickens!" He argues.

Marissa shakes her head and snorts. "It so isn't! Skippsy said we could do whatever and I say we are doing the Twelve Days of Christmas!"

"Well, Skipper said the same, and I say we are doing Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol!" Kowalski almost growls.

Julien then skips in between the two and lays his arms around both of their necks. Both Skipper and Skippsy curiously watch and wonder if this is going to resolve itself or if they will need to intervene. "No, you silly water-birdies, you are both being wrong. The theme is me! Your beloved King Julien. Kowalski and Marissa just glare at him and extract his arms from around them and continue their argument.

"Not again…" The two skippers mutter as they watch them. Skippsy starts to go down to them to break up the argument when suddenly a reindeer crashes right in front of her. "I-is one...One of...You...The South...South Poler...Ski...Skipper?" This exhausted deer pants; Skippsy instantly points over at her brother her shoots her a glare back.

Skipper looks with flippers crossed at the deer. "That depends on who's wanting to know, North Poler." He says.

The deer pulls himself up out of the snow, panting, and dusts the snow off of his dark brown fur. "My name is Comet and I have been sent by Mr. Claus for your help." He says.

Skipper looks skeptically at him and rubs the bottom of his beak with his flipper. "What for?"

"Six of us have been reindeer napped!" He replies. "There is only Dasher, Cupid, and I left now and Christmas is only days away! Unless they are found, Christmas will be canceled!"

Skippsy gasps a bit as she hears him. "Cancel Christmas?! But what about all the children?" She looks at Skipper. "You're helping." She then says point-blank. "I don't care if they are a bunch of prancing dancing North Polers, Christmas cannot be canceled, brother."

Skipper holds a flipper up for her to be quiet. "And you really want help from us?" He asks.

Comet shrugs. "Dasher is throwing a fit, but the rest of us are fine. Santa knows best, after all." He says.

"Alright, we'll help." The penguin then nods and starts to slide towards his team to tell them of their new mission, but stops. He looks back at Skippsy. "But...Who will keep charge of Kidsmas while we're gone?"

Skippsy looks at him highly unamused. "Well, seeing as how I practically have already been doing most of the leading, Skipper, I believe my team and I can possibly manage to get everything accomplished." She says and rolls her eyes sarcastically and looks at him again. "Seriously, though, Skipper, we've got it. Go."

"Positive?" Skipper replies.

"Affirmative." Skippsy says with a curt nod.

Skipper looks at her for another moment before nodding and sliding off to gather his penguin team. As soon as he has them all assembled in one place, he begins to tell them about everything. "Well, men, some of the big man in red's reindeer have gone MIA. It's up to us to find and recover them."

Private raises his flipper and Skipper nods to him to go on with his thought. "Does this mean that we're going to the North Pole, Skippah?" He asks.

"Affirmative."

Kowalski listens and curiously looks at Skipper, without raising his flipper he asks, "What deers, sir?"

Skipper thinks for a moment. "Erm...Rudolph? Donner and Blitzen? Dancer, Prancer, and Vixen?" He says a bit hesitantly.

"So Cupid is okay then?" Private a bit worriedly pipes in.

Skipper shrugs. "As far as I know your little reindeer is alright, soldier." He says.

"Your little reindeer?" Trixy then says as she had overheard the conversation as she was waddling by. "What is he talking about, Priv?" She asks and looks at him expectantly. Private just nervously rubs the back of his head as he tries to think up a good enough excuse.

Kowalski looks semi-amused at the two young penguins and draws a little picture on his clipboard and shows it to Trixy. "Cupid was Private's girlfriend for a day." He says and Rico snickers a little behind him.

Trixy frowns as she hears this and turns towards Private who now is a little red in the face. "Really? Now why is it that you have nevah told me about this? About her?" She asks, crossing her flippers.

"Ehm...Ummm...Well...You see...There was not really evah a reason that I really needed to...Was there?" Private stutters hesitantly.

Trixy looks at him unbelieving. "No reasons? Of course there are reasons! Some very important reasons!" She exclaims.

"Tri-Trixy? Maybe we should, uhm, talk about this maybe...Latah?" He says quietly.

"Ohhh, we WILL talk about this latah, Private. You can count on it. And, you know, I think I might come with you to meet this 'ex-girlfriend' of yours." She snorts and then turns and looks at Skipper. "May I, Skippah?"

Skipper looks at the young female recruit and shrugs. "It's fine with me, but you had better ask your own skipper first." He says. He has already taken his sister's private along on too many missions without his sister's permission. He is not about ready to be argued with again over it. Trixy nods and slides over to Skippsy and asks for permission. She nods her head and Trixy thanks her and slides back to the group. "She said that I may." She says, leaving out all conditions that Skippsy had given along with her permission. Skipper nods some as he hears her and turns to the reindeer. "Alright, Comet, how do we get there?" He asks.

The reindeer thinks on this for a moment, tapping his hoof to his muzzle. "Do you have a sled?" He then asks. Skipper shrugs and turns and looks at Rico. "I don't know, do we, Rico?" He asks and watches as the maniac nods and starts regurgitating a small plastic green sled with a great "Ta-da!" at the end. He holds it out to Skipper and Comet.

Comet looks at it in pure disgust and for a moment holds his hoof to his mouth to keep from throwing up. After a moment, he shivers a bit and looks at the slimy sleigh. "Okay, everyone...All aboard…" He sighs and tries not to think of how he is hitching himself to such a disgusting thing. He dumps some more flying dust on himself and some on the sled as well before taking off into the sky with the sled and the five penguin passengers.
