It took Bella awhile before she realized that she was lost. When she began her trudge to La Push she was sure that she was heading in the right direction but now that she had been walking for what felt like hours with nothing but trees on either side of her she was beginning to question her certainty and sense of direction. By now the sun was gone having been replaced with heavy black rain clouds and a light mist caused the already dimming light to fade more. "This is just fantastic." She grumbled as she pulled the hood of her hoodie up and wiped the dampness off her face. "Lovely." Stopping she took a moment to survey her situation and found herself at an impasse. She could either keep walking and hope to come upon a car or civilization before it got completely dark or she could turn around and head back the way she came. After another moment of indecision she put her head down and continued on her way unwillingly to return to the house of lies. Another hour passed and soon the mist turned into a steady rain and she was soaked within minutes. It was the sound of an engine that caused her to stop and turn. Sure enough coming up the road behind her was the brightest yellow car she had ever seen.
"Need a ride?" The driver of said car asked as she pulled up beside the walking girl.
Moving closer to the car she squinted to get a look at the driver. The voice sounded familiar and after her eyes adjusted she could make out the smiling face of the smallest Cullen, Alice. Her already sour mood went practically rancid. "No." She stepped back and continued down the side of the highway trying to ignore the car that was keeping pace with her.
Alice frowned as she crept the car forward. "You're going to catch cold." She pointed out.
"So?" Bella hissed out as her simmering anger began to boil again. "Not like it matters." She mumbled under her breath.
"I'm sure your father would think it matters." Alice pointed out.
Bella's legs stopped moving on their own and her hands tightened into fists. "God why can't you people just get out of my life? Isn't it enough that you make my life at school a living hell and stole my father?!" She gritted her teeth to stop herself from going any further. "Go away." Her legs started moving again.
Alice continued to follow the stubborn human and she couldn't help but compare her to Charlie. "I can't do that Bella. Your father is family and we take care of our family."
"Don't you get it?" Bella yelled in frustration as she angrily tossed her duffel bag off her shoulder and stormed over to the car. "I don't care who Charlie is shacking up with! Or who his family is." She sneered. "After today he won't ever see me again and he can live whatever perverted life he wants to lead!" She was gasping for air at this point and her anger seemed to pour out of her in waves. "Leave. Me. Alone!" Grabbing her soggy bag off the wet road she darted in front of the car and continued down the other side of the road in a fast trot. She could hear the car still following her and she almost cried in relief when a pair of headlights appeared heading towards her. When it slowed and stopped she opened the passengers door and flung herself inside and into the arms of her cousin, Jacob Black.
