Hello my dears!
Lovely to be back from this drastically long hiatus.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed editing it (not really, but yeah)!

Chapter 1: I Had A Dream

He was smiling in his sleep. Not just smiling, grinning like an idiot.

As the clock chimed again, he woke with a start.

He ran down to his study, and woke his friend up.
He was like a boy, so full of enthusiasm. He was grinning so widely, that his best friend just needed to roll his eyes at the man, as if to say, 'what now?'

"It's the best now, dear Fawkes! I'm sure of it." The phoenix continued to look uninterested in what the man had to say.
"It was about her again. It was as if we were just so happy, her hair down, so free, the way her eyes sparkled merrily. I just want to see her again." The phoenix's eyes soften a little bit. He knew that his friend was just so hopelessly in love with this woman.

His heart was racing fast. No, sleep wouldn't come for a very long time.

Absolutely fine by me if you have someone else in mind! No, I don't think I mean that at all.

Do you see that grain of sand? How many percent do you think that the waves will crash upon that grain of sand and make stay in the same place forever? Zero, isn't it?

Yes, that's how much I think I have a shot at this stupid daydream. Zero.

But clearly, it was inevitable to not see him, so, the intention is to ignore him at all costs. Yes? Deal.

It's just so unfamiliar to some that a person like Minerva McGonagall could love someone so much. She was a woman who stood up for what she believed in – a no-nonsense person, yet she found herself hopelessly (she means that, to the letter) in love with a man she most probably will not have a chance with, a person that she's known for the longest time.

She hated feeling that way, and she hated that he loved someone else. She would want to give them all the space that they need – she will have to stop their daily tradition of going to breakfast together, and she promised herself: "Less time together, less heartaches."

As the sun rose, so did his spirits. It was a wonderful morning, anyways. What could possibly go wrong?

He stopped by the portrait of Godric Gryffindor. After doing this for years, he was quite accustomed to see Gryffindor leave the frame and return with a smile, saying that the woman in the room will be out in a moment. Today, he was steady, not moving a single inch away from the frame.

"Good morning, Godric, I hope you are well?"
"Of course, dear boy, Albus! The lady is not as well though, she ran back to her room at midnight crying."
"I see. Is she in?"
"She left moments ago, still quite saddened."
"Thank you, Godric. Good day."

The man left wondering, what would make her try to break their little 'tradition'? He shook the thought, and continued his way to breakfast.

She hated how horrible she felt that morning. Breakfast felt weird, and everything she ate tasted like, well, nothing. She looked to the left and her eyes met a pair of twinkling, troubled, blue eyes. The moment she met his eyes, panic washed over her.

Oh, Merlin, please not, please not.

Her mind was pleading that he leaves, but he was determined to stay by her side.

"Good morning, Minerva."
"Albus." She nodded.

As she left the Great Hall, he followed after, and when he finally caught up, he lightly gripped on her wrist.

She looked back, stunned.

"Please tell me if there is something wrong."
"No, nothing. Just rather tired, really."
"You were crying last night, I heard."
"Being tired makes you do things you never thought you would. Whoever told you that must have never seen me yawn."
"Is that so?"
"I best be going." She tried to yank her wrist from his grip, but he unconsciously held her tighter.
"At least a chess match after dinner, then."
"I have tons of papers to check, I am afraid." He nodded, and she struggled to be released from his grip. She sighed to herself.
"Albus, please do let go. I have a class next." He looked down, and quickly freed her hand.

She hated to leave him because yes, she did want their chess match! Yes, she wanted to scream to his face that he was the problem, that he was her problem.

No, he didn't want her to leave; he wanted to tell her about his dream. No, he didn't want to see her so unhappy.

Yes, she must keep her distance because she didn't want to get in the way of his and the mystery woman's happiness. No, he didn't want to lose her; he wanted to be happy with her.

A/N

It's been more than a year since I've last updated this and it's been almost THREE years since I've created this... thing. I must admit that for that one year, I have almost forgotten that this account existed until I opened my old files and saw my username and password. In that year, I've also created Only You a Sirius/McG fic wherein Minerva is the same age as the marauders.

Anyways, I've put 2 chapters (yes, because there were two separate POVs and two separate parts for the chapter) together, and I've deleted the cringe scenes! Plus, it's gonna make this a tad bit shorter than it was before.

Thank you to the ones who've read this before and are rereading it and welcome to the newbies :)
