Chapter 01: Everyday Life

Name: Stephanie Evon
Age: 16
Species: Espeon morph
Location: New Morph City (New York City), NY, former United States

"Ahhh." I sighed as I put my paws behind my head and long purple hair, relaxing on a chair near the outdoor pool by our parents' penthouse. I love being rich. And watching the humans dance and fight each other for tiny crumbs of food by the only bridge leading into their habitats is very entertaining. I love living here in New Morph City. It's a beautiful city; in fact it's so beautiful I don't mind sharing it with my annoying brothers and sisters. The thing I hate most about my family is that we're like any other Eevee family in the world. I'm the third oldest, and the Espeon of the family.

"I just can't believe it!" my brother, James the Jolteon, said as he got back home from his trip to the market. I noticed that he had bruises all over his spiky, yellow furred body, and shirt was slightly ripped.

"Believe what, James?" Casey, the Vaporeon, said as she got up and out of the pool she was napping in. As she got out, water slipped off her blue fur and short blue hair, the only thing still wet was her one piece bathing suit. "That annoying human was at it again."

"You mean the one that steals from hard working morphs?" Gregory the Leafeon asked as he came out of house. "I've heard of him, didn't Charlie try to stop him?" "Yeah, but like everything else in that Flareon's life, He failed miserably!" The angry electric fox growled, carelessly releasing sparks from his body.

"Hey lay off him, James." Casey said. "At least he tried to stop the boy." She reason with her brother.

"How many times do I have to correct you?" I said jumping into the conversation. "Humans are things, not people. They're not like us." I once again explained to my siblings. Ugh, why is it that I'm the only one who sees these lowly, repulsive creatures for what they really are?

"Yeah well whatever you call it, this human's getting on my last nerve. It stole a sandwich from my paw before I had a chance to bite it. And it even managed to lead the police force straight into me to escape!" I chuckled a bit and felt like teasing my younger brother, but a look from Gregory made me change my mind.

"Why doesn't the governor step in and send soldiers here to kill it already?" James complained. "You really think that we need soldiers to deal with some lucky human?" I asked. "Yeah. Well that 'lucky' human's be a pain in the tail for years. You'd think Kathrin or Richard would've killed it by now."

"Hey, where are Richard and the others anyway?" Gregory asked changing the subject.

"Huh? Well let's see… Charlie still chasing the human, Kathrin's busy with the family business and Richard took Sophie to the harbor to see the sunset."

So Kathrin's working on a Sunday… again… I swear to Arcues, that Glaceon's a workaholic. When is she just going to sell the family business, and let it be someone else's problem?

And my twin brother taking the youngest to see the sunset? Oh Arcues! Why couldn't he have been more like me and evolved into an Espeon? But oooh no. Richie had to do the opposite and become an Umbreon. He probably took our little Eevee sister out to convince her to do the same. He knows how impressionable she is.

"Oh, thanks for telling me… say where were they chasing the human to?" Gregory asked heading back to house. "The river." James simply stated.

LOCATION: New Morph City River Front
(Main POV)

Angry shouts and elemental attacks filled the air as an angry mob of Pokémorphs, backed by the New Morph City Police Department chased after a lone, light skinned human, taunting them as he effortlessly evaded their attacks by bouncing off of walls, jumping over cars and fences, even ducking into buildings.

The teenage boy looked like any other human his age, had dark hair and blue eyes and wore the dirtiest cloths you'd even seen. His old jacket and T-shirt were relatively clean when compared to his worn jeans with had holes on the legs surrounded by dried out blood stains.

The young human races as fast as he could though the city, carefully planning his next move. He knew that the morphs would never try any really powerful attacks because that would cause some major collateral damage if they were to miss.

The mob stood on the humans trail until they finally cornered inside an alleyway. The human cursed his luck as he turned to face his pursuers.

"We've got it now!" One of morphs shouted, closing in on the human. 'What? They think this is over?"Who do they think they're chasing? A Slowpoke?' the human disappointingly thought as his attention turned to a bunch of trash cans lined up against the fence. 'I wonder…'

The boy quickly ran towards the trash cans and used them as stairs to jump over the fence. Once he cleared the fence, he landed on some poor soul on that was on the other side. Lucky for him there was no one else behind it.

"How did it do that?" "Who cares just climb that fence and get after it!" They angrily shouted.

'Hmm… I could wait for them and continue to piss these 'superior' life forms, but I have a previous engagement.' The human thought as he hurried to the harbor, ducked into a very large building, ran through the nearly empty warehouse and hid behind a few crates of fish.

The perusing morphs arrived soon after. They stated to look for their prey, some of them sniffing the air to try and catch a scent, other perked up their triangular, pointed ears that were on the tops of their heads to hear the sounds might he might make. But the box of small, dead water Pokémon that hid the boy's scent and the fact that he stayed as quiet as Church Pichu protected him from them.

After a while of fruitless searching, "It's not here!" "Maybe it went back into the city! AFTER IT!!!" They took off, leaving the boy hiding behind a crate of rotting fish. 'Superior my ass! They are so predictable.' The human thought as he left his hiding spot. 'This just gets easier every time.'

"Got ya!" A giant steel morph yelled as he coiled around him. "Now I crush you good!"

"Now, now… Let's not be so hasty." A Beedrill morph said coming out of nowhere. "After all, slicing his neck open and watching him bleed to death would be much more satisfying… wouldn't you agree, human?"

The boy shrugged. "I really wouldn't know." He said looking away from the bug.

"After we kill you, we'll parade your body throughout the city and be branded as heroes." The bug morph growled with resentment in voice, raising and pointing a needle arm at him.

"It's a damn shame that'll never happen… Now Tricky!" The young boy shouted. Suddenly a flamethrower came out from behind the Steelix morph, shocking the Beedrill and fried his partner. The boy was released as the morph screamed in burning pain.

Once freed, the boy immediately drew the knife that was strapped to his back, and charged the surprised morph across the room. The shock was only temporary, as he quickly spread his bug wings and flew up high. Once airborne, and looked at the human in pure hated, and flew out an open window.

The boy smiled as he watched the morph fly away. "Great Job, Tricky! I don't what I'd ever do without you!" he praised as a fox Pokémon came from behind the shadow of a box. The six tailed fox looked like any other Vulpix, excluding the scar covering the left eye, the fact that one of the two middle tails was a lighter shade of red then the others, and the normal bun of fur that all Vulpix have on their heads was non-existent.

"Alright, my little partner in crime, this was fun run… but gotta get outta here. Let's go home." The human cheered. The little fox just nodded followed his human partner out of the warehouse… just as the Beedrill returned with backup. Fortunately for the boy and his Pokémon, it was too late for the mob to follow him.

Deep in an abandoned part of the harbor, the boy his Vulpix finally reached their destination, an old door leading to an underwater tunnel connecting Manhattan to the mainland. While Tricky kept a look out for their pursuers, the boy opened the titanium hatch of the tunnel. Once opened the two went in, closed and locked the secret door, and traveled down the long, dim lighted tunnel, toward the other side.

After a moment of silence, "…Hey, Mark, I've got a question." Tricky suddenly spoke up. "What was this tunnel used for anyway?" Mark looked at his partner, confused. "What do you mean?" He asked. "Back during the war, what did the U.S. soldiers use this tunnel used for?" Tricky repeated his question. "Hmmm… don't know. Why do you ask?"

"Well it's because we use this tunnel every time we go out into the city and the morphs don't even know about it… why's that?" Mark stopped, folded his arms and closed his eyes to think. "Hmm…… Don't know… but I think Ben might, let's ask him when we get back home… after dropping off the food to others of course."

"Speaking of which, what did you sang this time?" Tricky asked. Instead of answering him, the boy opened his bag and showed the fox his backpack filled with bread, bottled water and a sandwich stolen from a Jolteon morph. "Aw, Sweet! That should keep us fed for a good week!" Tricky cheerfully shouted. "Yeah, and hopefully the medicine I snagged will help Marcia." Mark added.

"Oh… yeah. She'll definitely feel better after you give her that, along with some water of course." Tricky assured Mark.

"I hope so. After all, she was been sick for almost a month and usually…" Mark paused and stared at the floor. "Awww come on, Mark, you worry too much! Your sister's as tough and resilient as you are. She'll be fine. So quit worrying!" Tricky cheerfully said. Mark perked up. "Heh, you know what Tricky? You're actually right for once." Mark grinned. "Come on, let's hurry home." He said as they both bolted through the tunnel, towards their home deep in the Ruins.

And there we have it. Chapter one... May not be the greatest of beginings, but it does show what life is like here. Now altough it doesn't show everything the prolouge had stated... it does sort of set the setting for chapter 2...
