She has stopped by the coffee cart every morning for the past twenty-nine days. She always orders a small, vanilla latte and a cranberry-orange scone or a slice of pound cake. She is quiet and beautiful and I wish she drank more coffee.
Our daily transaction has become a well-oiled machine laced with small smiles and quick glances. I've never been good at moving beyond such gestures, but I've never wanted to find a way as much as I do now. On day thirty, I find my nerve.
"Good morning. I'm Edward."
