A/N: I do not own Transformers.
Another chapter to this interesting story. This is mostly of Sunstreaker and Sideswipe.
Warnings: vulgar language!
P.S. Totally has nothing to do with the story, but I had to say it! My bettas just spawned. I hope to see some fry in the next few days! Yay! Been waiting almost 2 weeks!
"Optimus, I have gone through my protocols and my memory banks for problems such as these, and they, strangely, have not been unheard of," The medic started as they moved with traffic, en route back to Headquarters.
Optimus kept down the road, having borrowed a trailer to haul yet another dead Autobot with, "Go on,"
"It seems that this code of behavior that has happened to them does in fact bring them back to basic programming, making them as Bumblebee stated 'feral' in every way. These types of protocols are engaged when something happens to the core processors."
"I feared as much, is there a cure?"
"I am still searching for that information, Prime." Ratchet moved fluently with traffic, pulling ahead a bit of the red and blue flamed semi, "Although I think I know who they are, which was half of the battle, but it also makes things far worse than I had first anticipated,"
"Who might they be?"
"Well after ultra-scanning the frequencies in which the scream I had picked up, I don't know if this is correct Prime, but I think it was Sideswipe,"
"Sideswipe?" Prime almost swerved at the news, that meant his twin was with him, "and Sunstreaker?" he asked, not wanting to hear the answer to that, "Are you serious?"
"Do I ever joke about these things?"
Things just had gone from bad to worse. Optimus groaned. He had hoped it wasn't those two, because he had known them to be vicious and without mercy when it came to tearing into Decepticons. They were well know n throughout all of the Autobots and Decepticons as a pair never to mess with, especially when angered. But angry and frightened? Primus only knew what the two were capable of, "Will humans be in danger of them, Ratchet?"
"Just as much as we are, I don't think they will see humans as life, they only see them as a threat, so I would advise any government agencies that would attempt to capture them away, they could kill them very easily."
"Or be killed themselves if they threaten the humans," Oh he would have to have a long talk with Secretary Keller about this one. Two feral Autobots roaming freely on US soil would not go over well; he could feel it in his spark.
2 hours went by and nothing was said. It was apparent the leader was in deep thought about what was happening. He pulled off the exit to their Headquarters, but a bleep on his radar caught his attention. It wasn't human nor Autobot, "Ironhide, are you picking up that Decepticon on radar?"
"Yes, sir," Ironhide replied, "I will be more than happy to take him out if you like,"
"Actually, no, Ironhide, I think we may need him assistance with the twins,"
"The twins? What about them?"
Oh, right, Ratchet hadn't told any of them, "Well, it appears the culprits of Brawn's demise are none only than Sunstreaker and Sideswipe. I have been speaking to Ratchet about it. He says that the scream frequency was Sideswipe, so the other has to be his brother. You and I both know they do not travel alone."
"Slag. Of all the Autobots to suddenly go homicidal, it has to be those two maniacs." Ironhide grumbled, "Of all of them, why those two? You know how dangerous they are?"
"Enough of that, Ironhide, I want you to go and see if you can talk to the Decepticon, which I am betting by the signal is Barricade."
"Very well," Ironhide ground out. This was going to be fun, he could just see it now.
"Hey Barricade, wanna catch some Autobots?"
"What are you talking about? Why are you speaking to me?"
"Because there are a couple Autobots on the loose, we need your help."
"Which ones?"
"The twins,"
"To quote a human term, go fuck yourself, Autobot," And off Barricade would spin away.
And that would be the short lived conversation. Ahh, how he could see it now.
"William, I suggest that I take you back to base before I engage Barricade, things could get a little… messy."
"I ain't going anywhere, 'Hide. I am here and here I stay. You can't get rid of me that easily."
"But he's a ruthless Mech. A Shock Trooper for the Decepticons,"
"Yeah? And I took out that helicopter dude – "
"Blackout,"
"Right, Blackout – myself. Forget it, Ironhide, I come with." William was no man to argue with. He was smart and knew his stuff, "Very well, but if you get slagged, don't blame me," Ironhide turned from where Optimus and the others were headed, making a beeline for the Decepticon, who surely saw him coming.
Barricade sat in silence in the parking lot. He was minding his own business, not disturbing a thing. He had preferred to lay low since Frenzy had been deemed offline and Starscream high tailed it and ran. Sure, it was strange to find a police interceptor sitting without a driver for hours on end, but really, he didn't care. He picked up a Cybertronian on his radar and scanners and started his engine, which was when Ironhide pulled into the lot, not transforming, not anything. Barricade of course, figured the old scrap was coming to attack him, but when no attack came, he became curious.
"Barricade," Ironhide said lowly. William shifted in his seat and rolled down the window – with some effort since Ironhide tried to keep them up.
So his name is Barricade, ok. "Hey, Decepticon, We wanna have a word with you," William leaned out the window and called.
"To what do I owe this gracious visit, fleshling?" Barricade's baritone voice dredged out a reason for their visit.
Ahh. A smartass. He could deal with that, "We wanna know if you feel up to hunting,"
"What he means to say, is the Autobots are willing to call a truce so long as you will help us," Ironhide interrupted.
"I don't help Autobots," Barricade hissed, "Leave me alone,"
"If you don't come willingly, I will drag you back to base," He knew Ironhide meant his every word, "Choose your words wisely, Decepticon, I am in no mood to be toyed with,"
"Fine, I'll humor you, what do you need help with?"
"We have a couple of rogue Autobots we need help catching."
"Rogue Autobots? Never heard of such a thing," Barricade hissed, "How am I so sure you're not trying t lure me into some kind of trap?"
"I did say I am not in the mood to be messed with, nor argue for that matter,"
"Which ones?" Now Barricade's interest was piqued. He was quite bored anyhow.
"Sunstreaker and Sideswipe,"
There was a long silence, and then, "What? You want me to go and get killed by those two crazed bots? Have you flipped your processor?"
"I am functioning at peak performance."Came the dry reply, "Will you help us or not?"
"Do I get to kill them?"
"Not in your life, Decepticon," Ironhide snarled. William facepalmed. He should have expected such a question from a Decepticon.
"Then why should I? What is in it for me?" Ah, the extortionist shows his ugly head.
"You can talk to Prime. Listen, I don't have all day. We already have one dead bot cause of this,"
When Sideswipe finally roused from his recharge, his systems were slow to come online, and Sunstreaker waited patiently for him to fully awake. When he did, he chirped and beeped at him, causing his reddish brother to blink a few times.
:You ok?:
:I feel… weak (click, click, click), Sunny:
:It's ok, I will make sure you're up and running right, bro, I promise: And it was a promise he intended to keep.
He knew his brother was in bad shape. He moved his brother softly, getting to his feet as he brought Sideswipe up to his own, helping him stabilize himself before they decided to walk further, following a small deer trail, which was the only thing they could go on – It looked like it could lead somewhere, and since they really had nothing else to follow, it would have to do. They had no further navigations than their own, so it left them essentially blind further than their optics could see.
Apparently, Primus wasn't smiling on them today, as they both came upon a hill. Neither saw it until it was too late. Sideswipe lost his balance, and started to tumble and in a panic he reached for his brother, who also fell and so down the hill they tumbled as a mass of red and yellow until they were stopped by a rather large tree. What they hadn't expected was a woman to come running out of a building, gawking and yelling something they couldn't understand about a giant red and yellow spider hysterically. Both of the twins started to untangle themselves, the yelling of the woman annoying them both, and they stopped, looking at her, blinking. What was that creature?
:What… is that… awful noise… Sunny?:
:I – I don't know, bro. What is that thing?: He nodded towards the small creature who had since shut up, chirps and clicks followed by a few beeps followed as they stared down the hysterical person.
"John! You gotta come see this! There's a giant spider unraveling itself! Wait – What the fuck is that?" She suddenly stopped as four blue optics stopped on her and stared at her.
Chirrup? Sideswipe wasn't sure what the creature was, but gave a soft click at her, as if asking what she was.
:Sunny, I don't think we are on Cybertron anymore.:
:Maybe you did more than fry your shoulder, bro: Sunstreaker replied calmly with clicks and chirps, his optics never leaving the creature they were now facing.
They stared.
She stared.
They stared more, getting aggravated that she was staring. Sunny let out a soft growl, but his growl was cut short when he heard a second creature come yelling.
"Jean, stop! Don't look them in the eyes!"
"What? You afraid they are gonna turn me to stone or something?" she asked, whirling around, getting a quickly formed cannon aimed at her threateningly. He followed her every move until she looked back, the face she had was priceless. He figured it to be of some kind of scare. So fine, it would be this way, he would scare them away.
"No, it might be a sign of aggression, look away!" What the hell did he know about giants and aggression, anyways? She did as he asked, looking down, yet at them from the side. Sideswipe moved and completely untangled himself from his brother and went to stand, and this got 2 sets of eyes on them both as they leaned on a tree.
:Why… are they staring… at us like… that?: Sides asked, only being heard as clicks and warbles to the humans.
:Would you stare if some kind of being you didn't know of nearly landed on you?:
:Point taken:
"Aww, they're so cute! Big – but cute!" Jean suddenly said, looking up at the giant mechs with wide eyes. She couldn't help herself from staring; it's not every day she got to see something like this!
John knelt down and looked away, yet looked up at them. Apparently he was trying to communicate with them. Jean's eyes shot to him, "What are you doing?" she asked in a voice harsh but low.
"Jean, if you ever read about nature, sometimes you gotta bend to it's will in order not to be killed." His eyes followed to the aimed weapon – at least it looked like a weapon, "And I think that we bend to their will by the looks of things,"
That's when Sunstreaker had had enough of being stared at but finding the other creature to not be a threat, he growled at her, this made her quickly take John's side and did as he did.
Chirp? Beep, beep, click, click, click.
"John, what are they?"
"They seem to be giant… robots, honey. Probably crash landed from China or something."
Sideswipe leaned down to get a closer look at the little creatures, even going as far as to put a finger out to apparently poke them. They were fascinating! He ran a few scans over them, found them to be biological in makeup. His arm was jerked back by his brother.
:Sides, no! You don't know if these thing will hurt you!:
:Come… on, bro, we… (click, click, screech!) could step… on them if… they… were such… a threat!:
Sunstreaker let his brother's arm go and allowed him to reach out again, slowly. He kept his optics trained on his arm and on the humans. Sideswipe had a point. If they did move to hurt his brother, they were in for a stomping of the Twin kind.
"Don't move, or they might attack you,"
Poke.
John felt the touch of the reddish robot, but didn't even so much as flinch. The touch was warm, not cold like he suspected. He knew his life was on the line right now and one false move would get him killed. He didn't want to be killed. He was still in the prime of his life.
:They're… squishy, Sunny:
Poke.
"What are all of those noises coming from them?" Jean whispered to her husband. As if he knew.
"Maybe it's their way of communicating," John shrugged slowly as he was poked yet again. Apparently this small creature wouldn't harm them and Sideswipe made the daring move to step closer – but only a small step, this time getting yanked back by his brother.
:Sideswipe! Have you fried your circuitry?:
:They… haven't hurt… (beep) us, and… like I said… if they do, we… will step… (Screeeeeeeech!) on… them: Sideswipe pushed his brother away weakly. Oh how Sunstreaker hoped that that incessant screeching would be the first to be repaired.
Warble. Click, click, chirp, beep.
Ok, so now they had two giant robots in their back yard. They had no idea if they were hostile and no idea what they were going to do to them if they moved. John made the first attempt at moving and slowly started to back up, he felt the optics of the yellow robot trained on him, and put his hands up defensively when the yellow robot pointed it's gigantic weapon at him again. Apparently the robot was smart enough to feel threatened. But so would any other wild animal if you moved wrong.
Sunstreaker calmed slightly and lowered his weapon, but did not disengage it when he saw the hands go up. He recognized the move as a sign of submissiveness, and let the creature move.
It was as if these two gargantuan machines were sentient, and one was apparently overly protective of the other more curious one. The humans regarded them as curiously as they did themselves, and Jean even reached her own hand out to the red one. Chirrup? Sideswipe jerked back a few inches from her, and she also did, then again she reached out her hand, showing a friendly invite to him – well it looked like a him, anyways. Hopefully he understood that she was trying to be friendly. And although he seemed to get the concept, the other one, who guarded him highly didn't seem so easily convinced.
"We aren't going to hurt you," She said gently, as if he would understand. Sideswipe jerked his head back, tilting it a bit and chirped at her again. The chirp went from low to high, as a questioning one, not one to harm.
Sunstreaker stood with his arms folded, his left hand lightly bridging over his weapon as he watched, prepared to attack at any sign that these creatures were going to hurt his brother. The look on his face told the humans that, as they moved to stand slowly, showing that they had no ill intentions.
:Are… they trying… (click) to… speak to us…?: The red one turned his head and looked at his brother.
:Probably.:
:We should… (Screech!) try to talk… (warble) back: Oh, that irritating screech again.
:They are using some kind of primitive language. I don't know what they are saying!:
:Doesn't… mean… (Screech, click, click) we can't… try. I will… try to show… it I won't… hurt it:
The humans heard nothing but a series of clicks and warbled sounds, and the red one turned to regard the female one once again. Click-click-click? He one reached his hand out to Jean, poking her lightly, then withdrew his hand once more when he felt his brother's grasp on his sore shoulder. That is when Jean noticed the open wound.
"Aww, it looks like its hurt." She said, tilting her head to the side, watching the wound carefully. She could see as he moved, all of the inner workings shifting and moving as he did. It was rather disturbing to see, as she felt like she was watching some kind of freaky x ray video of muscle, but it also fascinated her to see the workings of such a sophisticated piece of machinery.
"I doubt it is friendly enough to let you touch it, hell it wanted to blow me apart for just moving," John leaned back, feeling the imposing threat mostly vanquished, "And I doubt that since they can't speak, that you could tell them,"
"Well I can try communicating with them,"
"How? Do you talk chirps and beeps? Cause I sure don't. Maybe we should call someone in on this, they will know who to get to help it,"
"No, no, that's not a good idea. What if they are like aliens or something? The government would use them as test subjects." Jean argued, getting up rather abruptly, startling the two robots.
"Aliens? Jean, come on. There's no such thing as giant alien robots!"
"I dunno," she answered softly, "Do you remember that Mission City thing? People swore there were giant alien robots there," She bit her lower lip as she watched the two robots talk with each other and the yellow one give them wary looks, "Maybe they are lost?"
"Maybe you need to see a therapist,"
"You're a dick,"
"You're a bitch,"
"Touché," She smirked, still watching the two robots, which still hadn't moved much, only gathered themselves together and stood there.
And that is when things got even worse. The red one started to topple, swaying back and forth, and the yellow one went into action, reaching for his brother to stabilize him as he reached for that line again in his wrist rather quickly, pulling it until it was a few feet in length. The humans watched in amazement as the yellow robot did this, curious as to what exactly he was doing.
The red one suddenly dropped into the yellow one's arms and the yellow one turned frantic, beeps and clicks coming from him like crazy. They could see the worry in the optics and on the faceplates of the yellow warrior. He was clearly distressed. Sideswipe offlined not long after, no fight involved, and that meant that the energon flow would go as planned.
"What are they doing?"
"Hell, you think I am a giant robot expert or something, Jean? Come on," John asked as he rubbed his hand through his hair, "Maybe they're having sex or something,"
"Jesus, John, can't you keep your mind out of the gutter for once? I highly doubt they are doing that."
Sunstreaker now had two problems. Would these creatures hurt the while he assisted his brother? Sideswipe couldn't wait, and that's when he reached for his brother's arm, searching out the port he had used before, and started an Energon feed again. The humans watched in interest as a blue liquid moved from the yellow one's part of the line to the red one's. He kept his optics on the humans as he did so, growling at them if they so much as hinted to moving in their direction. When he was satisfied the little creatures understood that he meant business, he knelt down with his brother and leaned on a tree, relaxing, allowing the flow to become more stable. Apparently they weren't as stupid as one might think. That, or they valued their lives.
"I still think we should call someone about this,"
As she watched them, she couldn't help herself, "Aww, honey, can't we keep them?" Her tone, he really didn't like. He remembered her asking about keeping a nearly dead bird, to try to nurse it back to life one time.
"Yeah, sure. And do what? Put them up in the guest room? I think not," John half laughed.
"I really think they have something to do with that Mission City thing, John, it's eating at me."
"And I really think you've flipped your lid, come on, sweetie, it would be for the best."
"I say we wait. They are doing… something. I don't want to interrupt them, they might become hostile,"
"They haven't shown hostilities towards us yet, really, if you don't count the few times that yellow one aimed it's really big gun at us," John watched the two beings, still curious what exactly they were doing, "What makes you think they will?"
"Well, the yellow one seems very protective over the red one. An scared. And I bet if they were interrupted in… whatever it is they are doing, it won't go over well,"
"How can you tell? You suddenly become a giant alien robot expert?"
"Come on, John, it won't hurt us or them letting them be,"
Sunstreaker listened to the meaningless words being spoke between the humans, and still stared defiantly. The only thing was, he felt his own systems wanting to be powered down as his brother's did. He was becoming exhausted by having to stay awake to protect them both, and he knew sooner or later that he was going to crash if he didn't get some proper recharge. But here? He couldn't even begin to think it was a good idea. These creatures could do something to them. They could harm his brother while he got a little recharge. But his systems were fighting him, and he was being forced into a corner he didn't like. Also a tired Sunstreaker was a grumpy Sunstreaker. No one wants to be around a grumpy Sunstreaker, not even Sideswipe, who tolerated his brother more than any other.
So now, he found himself lulling between recharge and completely online, which wasn't going well. His systems were fighting him to shut down, and he would override the protocols, but how long would this fight last. Apparently, not long. The humans watched as he started to become more slipshod as his Energon was fed to his brother, and they watched as his optics went diffuse. They could only assume it was their form of sleeping.
"I think we should leave the sleeping giants alone, John," Jean whispered to her husband with a smile, looking up at them as the rested. It was a sight to see. Maybe later they could help determine languages, and help them as much as they could and possibly get information from them as to whom and what they were. It was more appealing to watch the two peaceful robots. Both were unsure about how to go about it, but things work in mysterious ways.
