"Good, you're still alive" Jeffrey greets me as I open the door.
"You sure?" I tease him. This all seems ridiculous now that he is here. I am NOT in love with Jeffrey Tifton. How could I? He is just my goofy best friend. He's also smart, and funny, and-
"I was pretty sure, but I guess there's only one way to find out!" He exclaims and starts tickling me.
I shriek and laughingly try to avoid him.
"You seem pretty alive to me." He laughs. "So, what did you want to talk about?"
WHY did I tell him that I wanted to talk to him about something. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
He looks at me, almost staring at me. Waiting for me to start.
I can't help but notice that he does look pretty attractive with his green eyes focusing on her. They are looking curious… Yes! Because he expects her to say something.
"Jaaaane!" I panicked. She has to help me. There must be a way to get out of this situation.
Jane appears beside the living room door. He eyes wander from me to Jeffrey and back. "What is it?"
"Remember the thing we were talking about earlier?"
"No."
"You don't remember?" I ask her. Puzzled.
"No, I was actually on my way out." She grabs her coat and some shoes. "See ya!"
How could she abandon me like this? Isn't it her duty to help me in difficult situations?
"Skye" Jeffrey's gaze has increased on intensity. "What is it? Please, just tell me."
"I can't."
He moves and puts his hands on my shoulders. That usually reassures me but right now it's just rubbing the fact in my face that we are acting like a couple. Minus the kissing thing, obviously.
"Please" he looks worried. "Is there anything I can do? Did I do something wrong?"
"No." He flinches. "And that's the problem."
"What?" He looks confused.
"You. Or well, me."
"I don't get it." He looks even more confused than before.
"I might be in love with you."
"WHAT?" He quickly removed his hands from my shoulders and is just staring at me in disbelief.
"Might" I stress.
There's a long pause of us just staring at each other. Him in disbelief and me in worry.
Eventually, he says something. "Might?"
Well. How am I supposed to answer to that? I just nod, slightly.
"Come on, Skye. How MIGHT you be in love with me. Either you are, or you are not." He sounds mad.
"I'm sorry. It's just so…" I can't find a word for my situation.
"Confusing?" Jeffrey offers, sounding understanding.
"Yes." I agree. "Confusing."
"I'm sorry to just tell you like I did." I start. "I just don't have anyone else I wanted to talk to about it. It's so important and I shouldn't have just rambled or even mentioned it to you before I am sure what I am feeling. - I messed up."
"Don't worry about it." He smiles. "Come here." He opens his arms and I go over to him and hug him. "Take your time and think about it, okay?" He asks.
"I will."
While we stand there, I realize something.
"You are in love with me." I whisper. Almost inaudible, but he did hear it.
"Yea." He answers. Almost as quiet.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I ask.
"I tried to tell you, but I always chickened out. I was afraid that I was gonna ruin everything, you know?"
"Yea." I understand. I really do. He is the most important person in my life. I don't know what I would do without him. It's not only that I enjoy his company, but I miss him, when he is gone. I miss the way he cracks a joke just to make me laugh, his sarcastic comments on my life, his enthusiasm for every kind of music he hears, how he always complains about having to cook, although he is secretly enjoying it, how he is just positive about every situation and sees the opportunities in them, how he is just genuinely nice to everyone and means it, how he…
"Jeffery,"
"Yeah?"
"I love you too."
