Anya Klein was a cheerful girl, some would say to cheerful. Her mother would always defend her and say it added to her childish charm. Even if Anya herself hated that charm.
The bids chirped happily outside her bedroom window. Dawn streamed in, covering the room in a pale frosty light, illuminating an empty, unmade bed. The room was small, only containing a bed and a dresser in the corner. A faded rug layed out on the floor. The walls were dark wood and a tiny window by the bed was the only source of outside light. The sliding doors parted and a frazzled Anya ran into the room. Her hair was down and a toothbrush hung from one side of her mouth. She ran around to her bed frantically, not noticing that the lip in the rug. She had little time to extend her arms before her bare foot caught on the edge and she face planted in the plush texture. Groaning she grabbed the toothbrush from her mouth, her face a picture of annoyance.
The doors slid open and a young boy peeked in. He had wavy, sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, his fluffy skunk hanging loosely behind him.
"Your being to loud, sister" he complained
Anya raised her head "I can't find Terra Dawn Alexi, I can't find her" She whined, banging her hands and feet on the ground in frustration, not even bothering to turn and acknowledge her brother.
The boy groaned, his sister was always like this. He yawned and headed downstairs, there was no way he was going to get anymore sleep this morning.
Anya hopped up still searching her room. She ripped the sheets off her bed, sunk to her knees to peer underneath and practically tore her dresser shelves off their hinges. Still her beloved weapon was nowhere to be found
'Why did this have the happen today?' she thought, throwing up her hands in defeat she trudged downstairs to confront her little brother.
Alexi was sitting at the breakast table chewing on toasted bread with jam with a cup of green tea beside him. He might be nine years younger then his sister, but Anya swore he acted more like a grown up then she did, even for an eight year old.
She stomped up to the kitchen table, the look of anger on her face ruined by her childish features and small stature "Alexi, do you know where Terra Dawn is, you little skunk?" she demanded
Alexi barely looked up, opting to still enjoy his breakfast in peace. "I didn't take it" he stated flatly
Anya growled in annoyance "Terra Dawn is not an 'it', she's a her!" She shouted
She was about to sock it to her brother for disrespecting her precious weapon when her mother appeared. She was a petite woman with short brown hair tired back in a tight ponytail and tired looking blue eyes covered by thin glasses, her squirrel ears twitched. She was holding an old looking crossbow like she expected it to bite her. "Um Anya is this yours?" she asked tentatively
Anya squealed, running to her mother in an instant and grabbing hold of her weapon, hugging it close to her, nuzzling it with her face.
Her mother sighed "Anya, please be careful with that thing, you know how I feel about weapons"
"Is Father coming to see me off?" Anya asked excitedly
Her mother sighed "I'm afraid not dear, he's still in Sanus."
Anya's face fell
The woman rubbed her tired eyes from behind her glasses "I've got alot of writing left to do but your brother and I will try to make it to the train station."
Anya's mood seemed to brighten slightly and smiled.
The haggard woman returned the smile "Turn around" she ordered softly
Anya turned and her mother started pulling her hair up in there signature pigtails. She honestly did feel sorry for her, she'd probably been up all night again for an upcoming deadline. Her mother was a writer and her father was a full time huntsman. He was usually gone on lengthy missions and whenever he was home he would sleep. Her mother would pull constant all-nighters trying to accomplish stories for impossible deadlines. Her nights were spent typing and her days were spent resting. Anya and Alexi practically had to raise themselves. At the few times they could go out as a family, Anya treasured it even if they just went for a walk around the village. She knew she'd miss it and she felt sorry for leaving her mother behind.
The last elastic was tied and she turned towards the mirror hanging on the opposite wall.
This was it, her first day at Haven. She felt her ears twitch in excitment. She wasn't going to let her father down.
Half an hour later the Klein family was huddled around the Anima train station. Anya gave a quick hug to her brother and a kiss on the cheek to her mother
"Be careful" The woman called as Anya boarded.
She nodded "I will" she called back
Her mother beamed as the doors closed. Anya waved until she could no longer see them, taking a shaky breath she wiped a tear from her eye as she survayed the train. Most of the seats were taken, she walked up the aisle clutching her suitcase closely. After a bit of wandering she came across a girl, she had blue hair and was sitting with her feet on the chair in front of her
Maybe she could sit beside her.
